The only death in the USRRC occurred in that hideous rainy fog when Don Skogmo's Lola T-70 hydroplaned and T-boned the pit entry barrier, newly installed for '66. Road America then extended the pit entry to the modern version so cars weren't going as fast if they got out of shape near the pit entry.
Three guys push the car and they stop it in the tech building to test the brakes? I guess that proves that they will stop it from speed at turn 1 and last for 500 miles. Pretty crude compared to today.
