Love my tandem excited to start on the mobi but exercise mode is trash. No matter what I do with exercise mode it makes me crash I usually just end up taking off my pump or turning off insulin delivery
Hey! I used to have this issue too. But then taking my pump off would in turn give me a major high after the fact. I ended up creating another pump profile with 60% of my normal basal rate that I would switch to about an hour before working out in addition to turning on the exercise mode. It would be trial and error on what your alternate pump profile settings would need to be but wanted to share in case it helps!
I am waiting for the Tandem Mobi link to Freestyle Libre. It is hard to find info on when this might happen. 15 days vs 7 or 10 days is a very important feature for me.
Yes I have used Omnipod 5 and Tandem t-slim x2 w/Control-IQ. Omnipod's algorithm just did not seem to be aggressive enough. Although my TIR was 65-75%, I felt like it could have been better, because it seemed I was not getting enough insulin daily. I also saw more highs, 200+, with Omnipod than I have seen with Tandem. Control-IQ is definitely a bit more aggressive. I've been on Tandem for about 5 months now; and I do seem to deal with more lows than I did with Omnipod. But I am one of those that say give me the lows rather than the highs.
As a mobi user, I would not recommend using a different charging pad. Commercial charging pads heat up too much, and will make your insulin go bad. I learned this the hard way 🤣
I used the Medtronics 770G with their sensor for years. Alarms, tube, customer service all were issues that made me look elsewhere. I switched to the Omni pod 5 and G 6 sensor about a year ago and love it, freedom from the hose and way less alarms in the middle of the night. However, I am turning 65 and have to go on Medicare, which doesn't recognize Omni Pod as Durable Medical Equipment. The cost to remain on the Omni Pod is going to be a factor in switching to a tubed pump. I appreciate your videos to give me options. Thank you.
I used both the Omnipod 5 and Mobi. The Omnipod 5 was a struggle to stay in range. It took a month to get use to the Mobi, and I find it better to stay in range
Recently stumbled on to your channel and am enjoying your content. I am a T1D since 1965. On an insulin pump since 1985. A lot of different pumps and many different experiences. Recently (6 mos ago) went from a tandem X2 to a BB iLet pump and have been in diabetic he*l for the past 6 months. I’m not knocking the iLet pump, I’m just saying it doesn’t work for me at all. I thought it would get rid of nighttime lows, but instead they have increased on a factor of 2-4x! I have done two factory resets under guidance from their tech trainers, but the same situation still exists. Because I’m on Medicare, I cannot change back to the X2 unless I purchase it outright. I am working overtime to get that to happen ASAP. Back in ‘85 when I got my first pump, I had a friend who was an amazing seamstress (still is!) make me a shoulder harness for my pump, so the pump is on me, not my clothing. Makes bathroom trips and outfit changes infinitely easier. I think back to when I was diagnosed and they told me in training: this is a syringe and this is the needle and this is how to properly draw up your dose. How far have we come with SO MANY choices for diabetics today. I also was considering using the Omnipod 5 but my drug plan would still leave me with over $250 / month expense and when retired, that is not welcome news. When all the “noise” of the alarms start up, I just tell people: “Oh, don’t mind that, it’s just my alarming friend!”
Personally, I do NOT like Control IQ. It will give me a control bolus and within an hour to an hour and a half, my blood glucose levels crash. I do much better in "Sleep Mode" than using Control IQ. With that being said, I am going to give Tandem Control IQ another try since it is my summer break from school. By the way, I have been a Type 1 Diabetic for 51 years now. I initially went on a Medtronic pump back in 1992 in preparation to get pregnant and manage the continual changes of insulin needs during pregnancy. My A1C during pregnancy was 4.5 and currently is 5.7. I have been using a Tandem pump since 2021 and it is not my favorite. My loaner Tandem pump is due up in a month, and I was thinking about trying Mobi. I am also struggling to find new sites to place my pump since I have lots of scar tissue which is affecting my bg levels. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Yes- we switched from the omnipod 5 to mobi. Tandem algorithm is so much better. Honestly would never go back unless they made some serious updates to the algorithm.
I decided to stay with Tandem slimx2 when my warranty ran out as I just never carry my phone with me all of the time. Otherwise I would have changed to the mobi. Also, do you know if the people who use Tandem's slimx2 also order the 5 inch tubing? It seems that if the mobi can use both long or short tubing, then so should either tubing be able to be used in the Tslimx2?
t1d for the past 12 years, diagnosed at age 30, never had a pump. considering this. how does this work with the insertion tube etc... and disconnecting to swim, dive, sports so on.
The pump must to he broken than. Tandem will replace the pump with no problem. My daughter use tandem. Tandem is great pump. Try it again. When you set up tandem make sure you set up well personal profile. You can set up different “time zones” so it will give different basal on different time of day ( and night).
I am diabetic type 2. I got approved for the mobi. It’s getting sent out now ! I got it due to my endocrine sys. I have one kidney my Main reason. High blood sugars too. I can’t believe how expensive those are. I’m really excited for it. It’s unreal that they cost $$$ for that tiny thing ❤❤
Clip to pants how do you go to bathroom? Can only place it within 12 inches of pump site up or down pump can’t handle being too far away from site. Tube pump is a pain.
I am on the Tandemx2 with the longer tube. I use just a small fanny-pack to hold my pump. I would do the same if I were on the mobi and used a 5 inch tube. I wouldn't have to disconnect from clothing to use the bathroom. I like that I can move my pump to where ever it is most comfortable as opposed to an omnipod which has to stay where it is placed for the full three days even if that location on the body is uncomfortable.
I used the T-slim for the last 5 years and am excited to try the Mobi. I can say it is so easy to unplug the tubing from your body that even with a 5 inch tube, I’ll just keep the pump in my pocket or clipped to my waist band . I clip and unclip from my pump all the time. No biggie.
@@micahk606 for you no biggie. For me I found it hard. Since with the pod stopped clipping and unclipping once left minimed. Infusions sets are not my thing. Once I tried again the memory of minimed infusions came back and I remember why I switched to Omnipod.
This is my second comment after getting to the end of the video, but i REALLY love this video. Thank you so much. I feel like this is the most receptive you've been to a pump that wasn't Omnipod. It hits so many nails right on the head. Control-IQ *is* the most similar to AndroidAPS and now iAPS. It's actually nearly identical at it's roots and the way it tracks net insulin on board, tracks the ENTIRE course of insulin duration, how it does most of it's magic by adjusting your programmed basal rates on your programmed settings, that it works within specific target ranges and leaves you to your own devices when you're doing good without it's help. The DIY systems have a few extra perks that Control-IQ hasn't gotten approved yet, but advancements are coming. Version 2.0 is coming out later this year. Dexcom G7 integration is rolling out as we speak. I also love that she uses the profile adjustments just like i do. This is what sets Control-IQ apart. There seriously isn't enough information about hormonal cycles and how the AID systems respond to it. I wish female stats were isolated in the studies. Have you ever noticed that it seems like males do better on the fully automated systems? A system that takes weeks to learn you (or never actually learns you at all in the case of O5) can't respond fast enough to hormonal influences that only last 3-7ish days for each crazy swing. I need a really low profile for a few days, and then suddenly BOOM, the switch flips and I'm insanely insulin resistant for the coming week. Those learning systems were just just figuring out to turn down insulin, and now i need MORE insulin than usual. Tandem is the only commercial system that can change behavior as fast as my insulin needs change.
I would really be interested in a video about you using control iq after being on the DIY algorithms so I cannot wait for that. 12 years mdi and I went straight to control iq (because tslim holds 300 units). I have been beyond impressed with the algorithm and will patiently wait for the sigi. This was an interesting interview. 👍🏾
Thank you for asking this question! (I'm also a Floridian. We don't even need a hurricane to take down carriers or power. 🙂) My concern is having an older iPhone and having to always use an iPhone to use Mobi. What happens if the phone dies? I don't like not having a PDM or interactive pump screen just in case your iPhone isn't working or you get an Android phone. I want to know more, though, about Mobi since it's so small.
For me its not a good choice. I do a lot of international travel. 1) if i lose or my phone breaks I can not manage insulin dosage. 2) With a 2ml reservoir means having to replace it more often. Do I love the smaller size Yes!
It's good that she decided to wait for the Mobi instead of doing the Tandem Choice program and upgrade. Those of us that fell for that sales pitch of the upgrade in February are still waiting and I regret having fallen for that tactic.
I have used omnipotent Eros, OP5, tandem, and tandem x2 😊i liked the tandem control in better due to the auto bolus, and me always forgetting to take insulin when im eating. However i still miss the loop algorithm the most. That was perfection and made me forget I had diabetes completely.
I've been on Omnipod 5 for a year and a half. I've been getting about 90% time in range for the past year using it's automated mode with Dexcom G6. Took some learning, but now it works great for me. Never tried any other pump, but I still haven't heard any reasons why I should try a different one. I'm still not convinced Tandem would be any improvement. Tubes sound like a horrible lifestyle.
I like tubing because it helps me move my pump around to different locations depending on what location is most comfortable for me. If I used omnipod, I would have to suffer with it being on a part of my body that is not comfortable for the three days it would be stuck on me.
@@anitastokar98 True. I am kind of locked into every site for three days at a time, but I hardly ever have a site that causes me any big discomfort. I don't think I would be into having both the pump and the infusion site as two separate things stuck to me with the Mobi. Maybe they'll come up with more streamlined adhesives though. The biggest thing for me is being able to handle situations like a hot yoga class or going to the gym and then throwing all my clothes in the locker and hitting the shower and sauna. Seems like it'd be trickier with a tubed pump. I'm glad we have all these options though because clearly different people need different things.
Justin, I love the service you and your guests provide thru candid interviews with the REAL challenges and wins people w/ T1D live with. Many Thanks. Keep up the great work!!
Wish the speaker would have been able to compare her experience on the Omnipod 5 and Mobi algorithms, one of the main distinguishing features between these technologies.
I didn’t sleep on mobi bc the infusion set is a pain. If you are not absorbing control IQ is zero help. Infusions method is not dependable. Pod has large surface sticks to body that small infusion set for me doesn’t work.
Can you use the freestyle libre 2 plus with the mobi. I have so many problems with the Dexcom g7. Constantly giving false low blood sugar reading and losing signal with my pump
I will be starting the mobi later this week, my only complaint is that it is not compatible with any phone but apple right now, I am not an apple user so in order to use the mobi I had to buy a used iPhone just to be able to use it. I don't get why it isn't compatible with android or come with a PDM to control the mobi.
Tandem and Omnipod 5. The algorithm is more important than the tube. Tubeless or short tube and great algorithm would be best but tandem over omnipod 5. I switched to omnipod 5 from tslim x2 for swimming reason. It has been a significant downgrade.
Mobi app doesn’t give you total daily insulin. Have to calculate that yourself. I use less than 150 units per three day period always have at least 50 units left at day three day.
It sounds like the Mobi does not have the issue with using the same site only once every 30 days as the. Omnipod 5 does . That seems like a good feature.
At first glance the Mobi looked like an attractive alternative to replace my aging t:slim. My concern is reliance on the phone app. I have the t:connect app on my Android phone and it should be called t:disconnect. It drops the connection at least daily and I have to reboot the phone to reestablish the connection.
I do so much better with Tandem than O5. I loathed everything about O5, including the pods themselves. (Bulky, painful, wasteful, absorption issues, etc...) Mostly I just couldn't get the insulin I needed out of O5. I have a really high basal split and don't take a lot of bolus insulin. O5 just isn't smart enough to learn that. It's entire algorithm is based on TDD, without ever actually learning your patterns. Mobi and Control-IQ are awesome, though! We're Android compatibility and a few algorithm tweaks away from being my dream pump, and those are both coming soon.
Try equil. You'll see small size and not apple dependant. No tube and aaps working great. That's it. Tandem mobi loose at every point. Dosing at 0.05 level. Cheap in price. 👍
@@dawnb2224 only provide parts of how this works. The charging and disconnecting was horrible. I’d bathe and charge then BG would increase if boius to adjust BG would come down at night since I appear to be sensitive to bolus at night. Didn’t have this issue with Dash Omnipod. The use of phone I liked but overall this doesn’t seem like a step forward just same infusion system I used 30 years ago with small pod short lead really hard to go bathroom unless paste it to skin for that stick to Omnipod.
@@Interested1956 the mobi has to be charged on a electronic plate. The tubbing is short so when bathe the mobi is not water proof like the omnipod is so need to disconnect every night during shower charge and then reconnect after shower. So BG would go up adjusted then BG went down middle of night bc these late corrections were not ideal for me. It was a lot of work compared to omnipod.
I’m switching to Mobi from Omnipod 5 (has shipped) so this was very informative. My A1C is good right now (5.9) but time in range not great. Thanks again for the information!!
Type 1 for 36 years. Almost 2 weeks on the beta bionics ILet with G7 and I love it. Really good algorithm. Previously on Medtronic in a non closed loop manner. Tube doesn’t really bother me. You’re either going to deal with the tube or wear something larger on your body. Omni pod behind the curve on no iPhone app and G7 support.
I left Tandem and so glad I did. Tandem is so in the red as a company and they are relying that the Tandme x3 will bring them back into the black. I will stick with AAPS and G7. And once Twist and Tide Pool Loop comes and is tested thoroughly I will most likely switch since my Endo can't give me medical advice with AAPS since it's not FDA approved Keep up with your posts Justin. You are a blessing
I’ve been on the omnipod, and getting forced to change it every 3 days and the continuous irritating sound it makes to remove it is not for me. I will never use omnipod again, having that non removable brick hanging off your skin is horrible. The faster these companies learn that we don’t want pumps to forces us to do something the better for them. We want to be in control. I want to decide when to change my infusion set and not get forced to do it unless absolutely necessary. They treat us like we are stupid!! Anyway, Omnipod has a very stupid designed pumping mecanism that uses a lot of current by heating a Nitinol wire up that stretches when a voltage is applied to it and contracts when the current is removed. Thats the ticking sound while pumping and thats why it has to be changed every 3 days to prevent the 4 batteries it has in it not to die.
Never tandem again i was on tandem slim x2 from december 2023 to January 2024 it put me in the hospital 6 times with low blood sugar im on omnipod 5 i never get that low tandem couldnt pay me to ever get back on tandem
The O5 algorithm needs more aggressive settings to work well. It's very likely your settings on control IQ were too aggressive. The O5 is a lot more aggressive on preventing lows, thus the need for more aggressive I/c ratio and correction factor.
The tandem ability to alter you basal rates, sensitivity and carb ratios with profiles was KEY during PREGNANCY and the POSTPARTUM period. Your insulin needs can TRIPLE in pregnancy, so I took advantage of the profile settings to keep my BG control in range. Then after your deliver, if you're breastfeeding, you become very insulin sensitive, so I had a postpartum profile all set to go as soon as I delivered. I also have a holiday profile for when I'm eating more and less active around the holidays. Love the ability to change profiles easily. Tslim x2 user, like this info...considering the mobi more now.
T1 diabetics' ability to release glucose from the pancreas's alpha cells is impaired just like insulin from beta cells is impaired. Yes, we still get some glucose however and cutting back on basal helps
Hybrid mode is when the pump and cgm communicate and the basal rate adjusts automatically with the sensor reading. If a pump is not in hybrid mode, it operates only on the programmed set basal rates. So to compare Omnipod 5 in manual mode to Mobi in hybrid mode is not a fair comparison. For reference, I am a trainer for all the currently available pumps.
@@mildredbentler7459plain and simple the ability for control IQ to give correction doses will be an improvement vs the ability to only increase the basal rates. Control IQ can do both.

It sounds like the Mobi does not have the issue with using the same site only once every 30 days as the. Omnipod 5 does
. That seems like a good feature.
I believe all pump sites should be rotated.
Just got my Mobi ordered and couldn't be more excited in anticipation. Been on g7 a little over a year and this'll be my 1st pump ⛽
Try equil. You'll see small size and not apple dependant. No tube and aaps working great. That's it. Tandem mobi loose at every point. Dosing at 0.05 level. Cheap in price. 👍
Have to disconnect to bathe and charge sensitive to disconnecting was a mission.
Thanks for this. No one ever says that.
Can you explain?
@@Interested1956 the mobi has to be charged on a electronic plate. The tubbing is short so when bathe the mobi is not water proof like the omnipod is so need to disconnect every night during shower charge and then reconnect after shower. So BG would go up adjusted then BG went down middle of night bc these late corrections were not ideal for me. It was a lot of work compared to omnipod.
@@dianarodriguez9783 the price you pay for short tubing. Guess you disconnect when you cange clothes too.
Having been a type 1 for 32 years, on tubed pumps for 10, and now Omnipod for 14, I can honestly say I could never go back to any sort of tubed pump
I’m switching to Mobi from Omnipod 5 (has shipped) so this was very informative. My A1C is good right now (5.9) but time in range not great. Thanks again for the information!!
Can you upgrade how it works for you? It hasn't been as good for me.
And once Twist and Tide Pool Loop comes and is tested thoroughly I will most likely switch since my Endo can't give me medical advice with AAPS since it's not FDA approved
Keep up with your posts Justin. You are a blessing
That is a lot of gear to carry on the arm. I would rather user the standard tubing and carry it in my pocket as a smaller alternative to the Tslim
Minutes? Way more complex lots of steps are you being paid? The three months I was on never found it easy. I can switch a pod in less than 5 minutes.
Thanks for the content, you are doing great job
You got it. Thank you!!
Never tandem again i was on tandem slim x2 from december 2023 to January 2024 it put me in the hospital 6 times with low blood sugar im on omnipod 5 i never get that low tandem couldnt pay me to ever get back on tandem
Tandem is great pump. You probably didn’t have good settings.
@@hbr6192 it kept giving me insulin even while on suspended at hospital
@hbr6192 and my pump settings are same on omnipod and I never drop
@hbr6192 and also I suspended the Tandem pump and it still kept giving me insulin
The O5 algorithm needs more aggressive settings to work well. It's very likely your settings on control IQ were too aggressive. The O5 is a lot more aggressive on preventing lows, thus the need for more aggressive I/c ratio and correction factor.
Awesome 😎
The Omnipod 5 algorithm isn’t aggressive enough for me. I much prefer the Control IQ algorithm. Looking forward to trying the Mobi soon, hopefully.
Navigate exercise by cutting of basal and eating low carb. G7 notification and glucose tablets as back up not hard. TD1 generate our own glucose.
T1 diabetics' ability to release glucose from the pancreas's alpha cells is impaired just like insulin from beta cells is impaired. Yes, we still get some glucose however and cutting back on basal helps
So you never compared the Omnipod 5 in hybrid mode vs mobi. Not a fair comparison.
Hi, please explain hybrid mode. Thanks.
Do u have a fake eye?
