Just to reiterate: Your two vids on tool setting have changed my efficiency to a new level with my 6040 CNCEST; absolutely brilliant.
Tip: Set your slow jog to 5 or 10% and leave it; arrow keys in Mach3 will always move at slow jog, unless you also hold down shift, then fast jog.
Why have you not posted videos in two years? Waiting for more great content!

i purchased a 3040 last week and have the 4th axis.

Yes I have I ran a piece with two different size holes and a pyramid pattern in the center and it worked perfectly. the knob I am trying to turn shows all the toolpaths run ok and the 3D wrapped drawing shows fine.

It would be pretty cool if you machine a technigrip bar and mount it in your rotary 4th axis, with an idle support at the other end of the technigrip. Then I think it would be a much more versatile 4 axis setup.

Absolutely. Bought the CNC to engrave on steel tools/parts I make on my manual Mill and Lathe.
Charlie Sarsfield is it so rigid to engrave on steel as well? For how much did you get this and is this available in India?
Rigid enough for about .003in (.076mm) deep engraving in steel, but probably not much more. That is as far as I'm willing to push it and do not need more than that anyways. I bought this machine from eBay for around $500 USD about 3 years ago.

Thank you. The rotary is 2 inch (50 mm). It came with the machine. I got the 4 axis version. It connects to the included control box via 4 prong cable just as the other motors.
Could You tell me, what is the gear ratio (pulley ratio) of rotary axis and its stepper and how to compensate it?

Wanting the text centered along the flat of the flashlight... At 5:26, I aligned the tool center with the left side of the flat, then zeroed the X axis. Then moved the tool to the right side of the flat. In the DRO I typed: / 2

if some one want to make the post processor fit his machine configuration(the 4&5 axis center or pivot point ) , he do not need to modify the programming code of the machine , is this right?

Thanks, glad you liked the video. Certainly accurate enough, yes. For the STL files, you'll have to use some software to convert STL files to G-Code to run the CNC. Have at it! :)
What are the different 3020 version meanings? T, T-DJ etc?

Definitely wouldn't call myself an expert, but I do have 16 years experience in the CNC field. At home I do machining and CNC as a hobby.
Hi, thanks for the video, very helpful. When I follow your video and apply it to my rotary axis my engraved text comes out the mirror image of what it should be. Any idea how to fix this?
Thanks, Chris. If the tool path shows up correctly in the Mach3 tool path display, but is mirrored in practice, then you should only need to reverse the axis in Mach3 settings. Config_ Ports&Pins_ Motor Outputs_... Check (or uncheck) the Dir LowActive setting for the rotary axis. Should take care of it. :)

vadddoo Hello there. I had to look into the USB version a bit so that I could answer your question. Firstly, my unit only uses parallel ports (LPT), which is what Mach3 was designed for. It looks like the USB version of this machine has to use other controller software such as that offered at PlanetCNC. I'm not sure if there are any special drivers available that will allow Mach3 to work with the USB machine. There might be though, so keep searching.

Which is the most accurate belt drives or screw drives?
I have only used my belt drive, so I can't really say for sure. I don't have any accuracy issues, but I'm not making aerospace parts either, lol.
Threaded rods are more accurate usually but it depends on the thread pitch against the number of pully teeths and belt pitch, also the threads are better in holding position once you move you can denergize the motor and still hold position perfectly while a belt system could easily be moved
Screw drives, if you have anti-backlash devices installed.

That would make life easier for sure. Have several ideas on this issue, but haven't gotten to it yet.
how you know tool is exactly half on that point. you can use round bars both. zero axis when measure fist side. then measure other side. then divide that. that will exactly middle point. no need know anything bout diameters. works on z too. just need have flat edge to measure top and bottom. still not need know any measure just half distance
Yes, there is certainly more than one way of finding a center point.

Hi Charlie, I'm looking at getting this model but the resellers are only saying the motor can be switched on and off at the control box. It appears from your code you are using M3 and M5 to switch off from the program - can you toggle it on and off from the code or not please?

Adding a persistaltic dispenser that can dispense superglue and controlling dispense signal with the output you have used for the motor control. Your video's provide fantastically useful projects to guys like myself who try the unusual!

Don't know if you can help I am new at cnc I am trying to turn a knob with Mach3 and Aspire. I drew it up in Aspire and did all the toolpaths, saved them to a file. When I import it into Mach3 and try to turn it on my 4th axis the spindle always wants to travel to the top of it run. and the project won't run.
