I laughed at this and thought it was complete BS until I read a few comments confirming it worked so thought I'd give it a go with my VCR that keeps loading the tapes and then switching off. It took a couple goes but then like MAGIC, my VCR is behaving properly and playing tapes! I don't know HOW this works but it DID! You legend, thanks mate!
i tried this it don't work. Unfortunately VCR's in 2024 cost 200-300$ I'm going to try to buy a used one on ebay for 80$. Others are cheaper but all have problems.
Lol I can’t believe this worked. I was having similar issues as you described so I cleaned the heads and anything that the tape touches and it was still doing the same thing. Then I used your trick and it actually worked! Truly just needed some tinkering and it’s playing tapes easily now. Thanks a lot for the video and god bless🤙🏻

thanks dude I got a vcr from ebay and after 2 tapes it started turning off when I put the tape in and I tried this and it worked but I had to press play as soon as the tape went in
Am sorry that people don't let people know keep your mode switche clean out every now and then everything proven Dirty mode switches causes problem's like that all the time
Such an OG fix that I completely forgot about! Thanks for sharing, this worked on one of my combo players I got at a thrift store-a Toshiba that just ejected the tape automatically. Now it is saved 🙌🏽
IT WORKED - my vhs dvd player was eating tapes/shutting off & I was peeling VERY important tapes out of the machine damaged, i was ready to throw it away & saw your video. I held the tape like you said, several times I did this, and then gave it the tape & immediately I pressed play, then rewind, fast forward, rewind, play quickly making the machine "work" hard, then again, I held the tape a few more times & finally gave it the tape & WHALLA - NO MORE eating tapes, no more shutting off - plays all vhs's perfectly now. GENIUS!

My problem is that my Samsung Vcr player keeps ejecting some tapes right out after a few seconds, but not other tapes, some won`t work at all, although they worked fine before, and some work first time, i am going to get another one, and then open up current one to see if i can see anything wrong with it.
This reminds me when the Emerson DVD/VCR combo I got recently ate my "Blue's Clues: Magenta Comes Over!" VHS tape (which is a blue lettering copy & an orange tape!) during the ending of "Magenta Comes Over!" & the beginning of "Face Wears A Disguise!" then it stopped eating tapes! But I still have another copy that's a black tape & a blue lettering copy & 1 more copy that's an orange tape & a colored lettering copy! I still have those, but I'm gonna have to throw out the bad boy & get a new copy of "Blue's Clues: Magenta Comes Over!" soon, later on!

Just hold the tape when it tries to take it in for a while. That’s basically it. Your kind of fighting the machine basically.
