- A look at the Smart Brabus, one of the most fun cars you can drive on the road today. This is the perfect car for your swampy petrol head.
There’s a surprisingly well balanced chassis under this Smart Brabus, as say surprised as the Smart brand and its products haven’t always met the demands of driving enthusiasts. However, this latest car could be the best Smart Car yet in my books.
The slightly different diomensions on this car, namely a wider track, have allowed Smart (and to a greater degree, Brabus and its counterparts at Renault Sport) to dial some genuine balance and neutrality into the chassis - which becomes amusingly apparent with a heavier than average right foot. It brings new dynamic character to the Smart nameplate and resonates with the slow-car fast mantra. That the newfound handling improvements have only massaged the diddy car’s headline trait of easily circumnavigating congested city streets is a welcome bonus. The only chink in the armour, surprisingly for a Brabus fettled product, is the engine. The Renault-sourced three-cylinder fails to match the quirkiness of the chassis. It doesn't fall short in terms of performance, but you’re left wondering how much extra excitement a zestier and zingier engine might add - or what might be possible if the Smart were a touch lighter.

These have become so pricey. The fact you need to go to a Mercedes dealer to look at one doesn't help.
I heard you say during the video that it was smooth. By that did you mean the gearbox or the ride itself?
That's the big problem I have with smarts...great for round town and getting in parking spaces other cars can only dream of, but they feel every bump in the road!
I was wondering if that may be worse with the Brabus with low profile tyres etc.
Thinking...how does the new Smart compare to the 451 for ride?

there great cars but look so much better with the back three windows tinted
I think all cars look better with tinted windows and aftermarket rims
Its simply outclassed by cars such as the Fiesta ST, Abarth 595, and those cars are slightly cheaper as well.
I used to own a Smart 451 Cdi, and it was a great car, affordable and great fun.
The latest Smart has lost its charm, and WOW is it overpriced.
popularity has driven the cost up, such a shame as I think its a cracking little car. Hate the four door version!
