  • 📌 Catania, Sicily |🇮🇹
➖Perched right on the coast of Sicily, the Italian city of Catania has a lot to offer! With a history dating back thousands of years, there are loads of great things to do in Catania - both in and out of town.
➖ In many ways, including us, Catania is seen as a gateway city to all the other best places in Sicily to visit. That said, it's worth a visit.
➖ Most people then choose to go directly to Taormina or Syracuse, but if you have time, Catania is worth at least a day of your time!
🇮🇹 THE BEST THINGS TO DO IN CATANIA
    ➖ Piazza del Duomo
Start by going to piazza del Duomo, which is (like everywhere in Sicily) the heart of the city. Standing in the center of the square, you can admire the emblem of the city: the Elephant Fountain (fontana dell' elefante in Italian). This fountain depicts an elephant carved in black lava, atop an Egyptian obelisk. Legend has it that this statue has the power to appease the wrath of Etna volcano.
➖ A MORNING AT THE FISH MARKET.
Catania's fish market is one of the most interesting markets I've ever visited.
Next to La pescheria is a more classic market, famous for its wide range of cheeses.
➖ Church of the Badia of Sant'Agata
Next to the great cathedral, you will find a church with the same name. Aside from the architecture, it's also an incredible vantage point, offering 360-degree views of the entire city and Mount Etna. For this reason, it is a wonderful place to visit during sunset. Climb halfway up to be blown away by the breathtaking views.
Entrance fee and opening hours: The church is open daily from 9.30am to 12.30pm and reopens from 4pm to 7pm. Entrance is €5
    ➖ Via Etnea
From piazza del duomo, take Via Etnea, Catania's main street. You guessed it, the name of this street comes from the view you will have there.
At the end of the road, if the weather is clear, you will be able to see the silhouette of the famous volcano that many tourists from all over the world come to admire: Etna.
While you're here, you can do some shopping in the many shops on Via Etnea or have a coffee and a pastry!
    ➖ Bellini Gardens
Located along the charming Via Etnea in Catania, Sicily, the Bellini Gardens are another location to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The ornate gardens of Villa Bellini, Catania's oldest public park, are an incredible activity. Make your way through the lovely oasis of greenery and take time to relax from all the sights in the city centre.
➖ Go to a dinner with typical Sicilian dishes. It is the best place I ate in Catania. The location is very frequented by locals, places are limited, it is preferable to make a reservation!

🇮🇹 The best time to visit Catania, Sicily is late spring or early fall. From mid-March to June (or mid-September to November), you still have beautiful weather and can avoid the tourist crowds.
