  • Today we are meeting Christy who is doing a review of the folding e-bike from Lectricebikes.com. It’s the perfect bike for her because she lives in a minivan and can’t fit a full-size bike in it. As a huge bonus, the step-through frame allows her to get on and off it much easier.

    I really appreciate this review (and part one) of the Lectric bike. I have always wondered what the attraction was with electric bikes. I miss riding bikes because I am overweight and have bad knees. But now that I hear you talk about it in this way, I'm thinking I might need to try one. I'd love to be able to ride a bike again.

    NOTE! I think Bob has already done a video on bike security. If you're getting an eBike, be sure to "invest" in a very solid lock. Not a cable lock, and if chain a very high quality one. Keep in mind too there are better locks out there than even chains so spend the money on those.
    A buddy of mine just had one of his eBikes stolen while he was at a grocery store. Spend that extra money so you don't lose a lot.

    I really like this E-Bike. It looks good and I am very surprised by the low price. Seeing it demonstrated in this video and the previous one gives me confidence on purchasing one (I'm hoping in early summer). I can relate to Bob's bad knees and short legs because the same goes for me. Not having to install fenders and a rack myself is a plus. I like to ride a bike in all types of weather and I know not having fenders will make a real mess of my clothes. I can not wait to ride with fat tires and I am looking forward to the next followup video!!!

    I bought 2 lectric bikes last year. Both had standard non-step thru. These are excellent bikes. But I had to sell one bike because my wife could not comfortably stop, start, get on, get off with the high non-step thru “boys bike” configuration. She even fell a few times. I sold it and got nearly full price with quick sell on Craigs list. The guy who bought it was about 6’5” and loved it. I’m 5’9” and the bike is great for me. I have the seat raised and handlebars setup to where the bike feels and handles similar to a mountain bike. We are considering getting the step thru model for wife to try again. But also there is the consideration of carrying these bikes on camper. I’ve found the complete fold-ability of these bikes don’t really help that much for me, so I just leave them unfolded, but I do fold down the handle bars for my carrying situation. 65lb weight is a consideration and it’s easier to leverage when bike is unfolded. Again, the bike is excellent price, function, durability. I’m glad I bought it.

      I just heard bob say the price. That is a good price for an electric bike, most are way more than that.

      You can also get a set of flat strap bungee cords at Walmart for about $10 bucks. Great for holding things down and keeping stuff from rattling around inside the crate.

    I bought one for my lady, so she could ride along side of me as I jogged. I jog 5K every other day. I wish I could get her to jog though. Walking is too slow for me. She likes to walk and talk. Now, with the bike, she does about all of the talking. Which is fine.

    An e-bike (or two) would be awesome. I'm just trying to figure out how to carry it in a van without having to climb over it all the time. I'm not sure I could lift it either. I'd love to see how a van-lifer carries it and how they load and unload it--especially for an older woman.

    • @jimbo92107
      @jimbo92107 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Might be easier to carry a tiny electric scooter with a seat, then a backpack for groceries. Much easier to lift into a van.

      I’ve been searching for video of this too. She’s in minivan & I really want to see loading. The weight of ebikes holds me back from purchasing. I load my mountain bike & lightweight street bike on rack & it can be hard on my back.

    I'm 6' tall and 250 lbs. It is rated to haul me around. The seat post is plenty long to extend my legs. I see almost everybody with the seat post way too low.

      I'm 6'2" 250. I'm their site says max rider weight 275 and for riders up to 6'3". Looks like they've done a great job making it beefy enough. I've been looking at Rad bikes but this one with folding feature and weight capacity at this price looks great.

      I raise the seat and adjust the handlebars on my lectric to approximate a mountain bike setup. And it actually does feel and closely handle like a mountain bike when riding.

    I have a Lectric XP that I got last December in Florida where I stay through till spring. I have put over 600 miles on it thrugh ocean riding, trail riding, and the hills of Ohio this past summer. Other than it is a little heavy, I love this e-bike. Great company here in the USA.

    I don’t know if Christie has been filmed for a tour - I would love to see her set up and how she fits this in there.
    How comfortable is it holding one’s arms straight out like that? I’m imagining it would be a bit of a learning curve to get used to the steering control, but I’m also wondering about the comfort factor?

      Yes, but you have to match the correct trailer. Either axle mount or to seat stem.

    Wonderful! I so want one, it will complete my rv traveling needs. I’ve been trying to figure out if I want to tow something behind my 1977 holiday rambler. I have a generator rack on the back and really don’t want to add a vehicle behind me. I’ve been looking into these. Thanks for the wonderful review!

      I have seen lots of RV people in California riding around on e bikes. Most of them are little folders, most with a basket. Obviously they're riding them around the RV park and to grocery stores, around town, etc. Perfect additions to the RV lifestyle. Tip: If you are over 250 lbs., get one with at least a 750 watt motor, for steep hills.

    I bought a rather big three wheel bike and now wish I had gotten a folding one. Used my stimulus money so I had at least some wheels. Hope to get a van if we ever get another stimulus so I can get on the caravan road at last. I will likely have to add my own electric motor because I need 3 wheel stability.

    • @jimbo92107

      If you're riding mostly on pavement, you might just get a seat post with a shock absorber built in, plus a Cloud 9 seat.

    Since it's a folder be sure to check weight capacity. I'm 250lbs and pretty much all folders won't hold my weight.

    Bob, how long does it take to charge your battery on solar power?

    • @Rainaman-
      @Rainaman- 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just check how many amp hours the battery have and calculate on your set up. On grid it takes 8h to charge so you better have a good excuse to have electric bike over regular one

    • @mysurfing3550
      @mysurfing3550 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't have this bike but I have a 200 watt goal zero battery. The Nomad 100 charges it in about 6 hours from empty from mediocre sun and about 3 in summer sun with no clouds. So a guess if you use solar is you'll need an absolute minimum of an extra 100 watts panel with okay sun each day you plan to run it out.

      No license needed, confirmed with a police officer who happened to be standing in line behind me and commented on my trike chained to a street sign as we waited to vote! I cannot wait for my ebike to arrive.

    • @jimbo92107
      @jimbo92107 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of these e bikes don't need a special license, assuming you don't modify them to go faster than 28 mph while pedaling. Faster than that, they're considered motorized scooters. Realistically, you don't want to go faster than 20 mph on a bicycle. Always wear a helmet!
