@@swf4841 I may be in the minority here, but I prefer a production where the characters are real, believable human beings and this director apparently agrees. Certainly preferable to forced knockabout farces where the actors bend over backwards trying to milk a laugh. Just my humble opinion.
Kenneth Wayne but it was written as a farcical romp. But yes, I agree no need to milk the laughs either. That is ridiculous. I’ve seen productions of Merry Wives where they did that and they were awful. But I think it should be done as a farce at least. It is a very early farce. I mean you wouldn’t want to see a Ray Cooney as a kitchen sink drama would you? You would want you money back.

All a bit too serious. I thought MERRY WIVES was the closest Shakespeare came to a farce, not a PBS drama.
