    Bodyshop owner here . Strip undercoat by heating and scraping . Once you get the bulk off thinner cleans it up great or if you dont have any brake cleaner or wax and grease breaks it down .

    I love that you constantly ask him, "what are you doing?". I don't know much about the AWD setup so I am curious and you ask pretty much for a novice who just watches videos and didn't grow up with any knowledge about cars.

    To remove the undercoating use a propane torch and scraper. You don't want to burn or melt the coating you just want it to heat up and become softer. You can go to home depot and ask for a 5-n-1 tool which is in the paint aisle. It's a type of scraper with 5 uses (different shapes to scrape in different ways). You can also use a 1000watt-1500watt heat gun. Use acetone to wipe off any residue after. Acetone is a good solvent to use for prepping surfaces for weld. Removes a lot of types of paint, wax, grease, oil etc.
    As far as the actual welding. You would have much better success with dual core Flux shield wire. The Flux in the wire constantly cleans the metal and pull the contaminants to the surface of the weld puddle. Dual shield is commonly used for structural metal welding like buildings and the metal can actually be welded in a fairly rusty state without having to be cleaned prior. Using solid mig wire and 75%/25% mix isn't a good idea with something as dirty as that undercoating sub frame

    Loving the vids guys. Keep ‘em coming. It is about time someone does a detail install of this👏. Question, does the angle of the driveshaft from the diff to the viscous coupler matters? From the vid, it seems that the driveshaft from the diff has a downward slope to the viscous. Would appreciate it if you guys could go more into this aspect of the install. Thanks.

    Looks like it's possible to shorten the ends of that front carrier bearing bracket, drill new holes and move the bolts and then you wouldn't have to notch the frame

  • @sones1built196
    @sones1built196 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Undercoating - fire and wire wheels. Takes about 10 sec to remove
    Driveshaft length would be hard to make across the board. Their are too many variables involved. You would have to make like 100s of combo.
    Also you don't have to notch the tunnel with the S1Built billet carrier bearing because they are offset upward. In all off our videos we never had to notch the tunnel.

    here in nz for it to be street legal we’d probably have to go extra and weld in those plates crush tubes so it goes all the way up into the floor, then have through-bolts with an extra plate and nut on the end.

  • @highpsiguy4085

    The reason you're able to break a factory camshaft is because it's made from a casting. They pour liquid metal into a mold. If you look at the ends where the cam fractured you will see the metal looks like small grains of sand. There's no uniformity in the grain of the metal. If you tried to do that with a billet camshaft you'd more than likely hurt your hand and chip the sidewalk. But the cam wouldn't break. It all has to do with the metallurgy and science behind how the metal is made. You could also break a cast cam shaft with a specific sound frequency at a loud enough volume level. Kinda like how you can shatter a glass with a speaker making a specific sound frequency. I've been a machinist for 20 years. So I've learned a lot about metallurgy and castings over the years.

  • @crusheen
    @crusheen ปีที่แล้ว

    to get the undercoating off, definitely heat gun on high, and a putty knife. That will get most of it as long as the surface is -relatively- flat or uniform. Then take some Xylene to it with a stainless steel pot scrubber (chore boy) I've had good luck with this.

    i fawkng agreed with that driveshaft concept. It needs to be a Mainstream Oem Honda aftermarket placement part with 1310 joints and chassis specify. so people can just but the driveshaft and slap it on.. I then it'll be a Good business Opportunity for NewEnglandRacing to come out with Those concept Parts for AWD. i'm down for it. because I have 2 different sets up right now on hand for a 92-95 Eg hatch/Ej coupe chassis with Awd K series motor(k24a2) and trans( crv trans) and b series(b18c1) motor and trans(crv rd1). A freelander with Crv rear and a Wagon full driveshaft and rear.

    Dry ice ( which I guess isn’t “terrible “ on pricing to get the machines )… but if your doing it at home soda blasting it is way more convenient and easier to set something up and blast.

      *Asked a friend since he’s done it more so then myself….dry ice works better then soda blasting because your freezing it but either way apparently your going to go thru a ton of it to get the coating off. 😔
