Die Another Day was released to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 007 series ... and boy, does it pull out all the stops! Does poor old Pierce Brosnan go out with a bang or a whimper? Only just found your channel and binged your Bond videos in one go. I grew up watching Brosnan and he is my Bond. Couldn't agree more on your opinions mate. I'm one of those rare people who enjoys every single Bond movie. No matter how bad the movies may get, I always find something to enjoy!

Great review. You should include more details from the behinds the scenes stuff, as MGM always offers plenty of that for Bond films
It's the destiny of any long-term Bond actor: eventually they get a film where the producers get excited by their recent success, throw everything at the wall, and make bad decisions for the next script. YOLT, Moonraker, Spectre and especially DAD. Doesn't equal doom since over the top Bond is still fun, but these films lose any narrative intelligence. The best part is we always get grounded down to earth follow ups. If it weren't for DAD they wouldn't have gone so hard with Casino Royale.

I am no fan of this film but I don't hate the song as much as you. We all seem to dislike different things about this film. I actually like Bond looking like Grizzly Adams.
Have you thought about covering any of the games? I always felt Everything or Nothing was a better send off to the era than Die Another Day and I'll always have a soft spot for Nightfire.

The thing I've noticed about the Pierce Brosnan era of bond is that the last two films in the series were very disappointing and not very good imo. It feels like both are living the shadow of GoldenEye and tried desperately to recapture what made that film so good only to fail miserably.
The World is not Enough: had some good action and a good female villain BUT a disappointing secondary villain & a terrible Bond girl.
Die Another Day: a good opening scene & awesome sword fight scene between Bond and Gustav. Everything else however was just trash & not a very good way to conclude the Pierce Brosnan era.
In my opinion the best of the Pierce Brosnan movies was GoldenEye and Tomorrow Never Dies imo. Honestly it felt like the World is Not Enough and Die Another Day were living in the shadow of GoldenEye and wanted desperately to recapture what made that first movie so good. The World is Not Enough has its flaws (a disappointing secondary villain & a terrible Bond girl & disappointing locations) but had some good action and stunts and a good female villain.
Die Another Day has major flaws and problems & despite having some good action. The film tried way too hard to celebrate Bond's Anniversary that it came across more as a parody and mockery than a celebration.
