"They were coming to die with us, the least we could do is survive till they arrive." is an INCREDIBLE homage to the morale boost a besieged regular infantry unit gets from seeing paratroopers arriving to help. THOSE folks understand how to fight surrounded. It's their ENTIRE reason for existing as a unit.
To quote my grandfather a air force veteran " the effect on moral far supercedes the practical benefit so draw that lady on that plane, give those men something to fight for"
The hint is "Deathworld", with which Earth is classified. A planet larger than Earth will likely have too much gravity to ever allow for space flight. Smaller planets are "garden worlds", although this is not well understood yet, but *this* is SciFi. As we still only know our own solar system: Mars is already too small to hold its own atmosphere. But the gravity is low enough for easy space access. Titan is even smaller, but has a thicker atmosphere than Earth! Well, temperature also plays into these things, but our outer atmospheric layers are also cold. As I already mentioned ;•) these things are not yet completely understood. And when we finally think we know all this, we will see exoplanets laugh at our wisdom.
I'm not sure it's entirely unbelievable for another species to just not do that. While the story listed creativity and determination as mankind's greatest strengths we do apparently have another, stamina. To my understanding there isn't many animals on earth that can match us in sheer continual output of energy in physical exertion. There are faster or stronger or more durable true, but I've heard and read stories of such frightening endurance from people that are apparently supported by people who saw it it took part. Can you imagine a cheetah with its extreme burts of speed but low endurance saying "yeah ok let's hit each other with sharp metal weapons while wearing armour"? It may happen, but until we meet another highly intelligent species we can't know for sure.
Well … technically, the medieval era arose out of a technological decline, right? The ancient world saw the Roman Empire fall and then saw the medieval era emerge out of the Dark Ages. But there’s an even more fundamental point. The Greeks and Romans knew about steam power, but failed to see it as anything more than a toy. China had gunpowder for a long time, but essentially thought only to use it for fireworks. If we hadn’t thought like that, we could have moved straight from ancient times into industrial ones, or at least into some kind of more industrialized renaissance.
Uh what?! The title Knight existed in the Roman times, it’s just a title of nobility/professional soldier sworn to a Lord or in the Roman case to the Republic or Empire. The Roman Empire and Republics were generally based on land ownership much like feudal Europe would be later on. He who owned the land held the power. As to China and gunpowder…….ffs they had gunpowder weapons in the Song Dynasty!! Hundreds of years before we were using them in Europe. They even had basically Proto-cannon and hand grenades. Throw in their fire arrows and you have the weapons used to drive back Kublai Khan later down the road.
Roman knights were generally called Equites. Remeber a knight is just a noble that rides to battle. And with the expense and rarity of war quality horses in those times, cavalry generally came from the nobility of whatever power system was in control of any given region of the era.
Definitely heavily inspired by them. Though I don't play helldivers, bits I've seen don't show melee weapons and a heavy use of air support over psionics. So there is some differences. Truthfully I do think a unit in perfect cohesion with even sufficient technology and equipment would be a horror to face. Sort of makes me want the perspective of the line infantry. Can you imagine that sort of synchronisation and communication across an entire division or army group?
Capes existed before Helldivers were a twinkle in anyone's eyes. Militaries, in reality, always heavily use air support and artillery heavily when it's available. 😂
@@00yiggdrasill00 We actually used melee weapons in the first game - the First Galactic War. Still waiting for the devs to let us take the swords and tanks out of cold storage.
Interesting side note: there was a fair number of injuries suffered by WWII paratroopers that safely landed but on the roofs of buildings, houses, and the like. Only to get injured, or worse, from jumping off the roofs because "it was nothing compared to the plane they just jumped out of" I'm about 90% sure that's not just some bs urban legend. The knight, as I understand him. The knight is a concept originating from eras in which chaos reigned, during this time, protection was extremely valuable, so those best equip to fight became extremely wealthy and powerful. This tradition continued into ages of more peace, where the nobility consists of the descendants of those mercenaries, and so to keep their status as nobles, they were expected to lead the charge in any war. Their wealth afforded them opportunity to train extensively rather than working to grow food, as well as affording the extremely expensive armor and warhorse that made them so formidable. In Christian contexts, they were expected to dedicate themselves at a church prior to accepting knighthood, and often served at the behest of the church in place of or in addition to the king. Those without land or a noble house were said to wander and look for opportunities to fulfill their oaths to the protect their country, thus the legend of the knight errant, the wanderer. During a time when oaths were extremely important, the knight took an oath to God and country, thus arose the popular conception of the knight, a warrior with an oath.

Warning: Don't read this comment. To be fair, I talked to one of my teenage employees the other day and made a joke about a Samurai code of honor. She looked at me and asked what a samurai was. I told her it was a Japanese warrior from a few hundred years ago. She told me she didn't watch anime. I told her it was a real life thing. She said that she doesn't know Japanese history. I shrugged. "Fair enough. But a Samurai is basically an Asian knight." She looked at me. "What's a knight?" I bought a couple of beers on the way home from that shift.
It might help to tell where in the whole wide world this did happen, Outer Mongolia, New York City, Nigeria, Amazonas, Ukraine, Central Africa, Canada?
You say "a few hundred years ago", as if the social class was gone before the 20th century. At its longest you could argue nobody was samurai after 1877, but that subculture and their training persisted into WWII, less than a century ago.
This is honestly very much more like Warframes than space marines though. 4 warframe deployed to a battlefield is basically overkill, and 100 warframes would be enough to fend off a largescale invasion

"I am Talenel Elin, Herald of War. The time of the Return, the Desolation, is near at hand. We must prepare. You will have forgotten much, following the destruction of the times past. Kalak will teach you to cast bronze, if you have forgotten this. We will Soulcast blocks of metal directly for you. Dying fighting against the unknowable horrors of the galaxy to protect the innocent is human euphoria
Okay the marine with the hammer, I cannot be the only one to start chanting "Grond, Grond, Grond" when that came up.
Thank you 💐🌺💐for all your effort & the time you put in when uploading this. It is really truly appreciated 🙏
4:30. HELLDIVERS TO HELLPODS. HELLDIVERS TO HELLPODS. PREPARE FOR DROP.
Amidst the carnage of an Intergalactic Sci-Fi War... the humans sent a D&D Party.
I need about 12 straight hours of this. I hope you have some longer ones cause I’m coming to look now 😂
I really liked this story. I hope you write more about the Knights.
5000 quatloo's the humans cannot be contained!
You are an amazing storyteller, your stories make me imagine what the universe of your stories might look like
A knight is sworn to VALOR!
Sounds like manage democracy
So Vulkan, Lion El Johnson, Leman Russ, Corvis Corax, and Guilliman all drop from orbit in a single drop pod and start slaughtering Tyranids. Got it.
Aliens learning about the indomitable humsn spirit be like:
Fantastic story!
Can't wait to see the aliens' reactions if it turns out they just happened to live next door to an extreme LARPer colony and the real soldiers are even scarier.
Literally the first helldivers game
Is this a 40k story with the 40k removed?
The algorithm worked today. Subscibed
Army of Tony Starks!
I wish we could teach you steel, but casting is so much easier than forging, and you must have something we can produce quickly. Your stone tools will not serve against what is to come. Vedel can train your surgeons, and Jezrien . . . he will teach you leadership. So much is lost between Returns ... I will train your soldiers. We should have time. Ishar keeps talking about a way to keep information from being lost following Desolations. And you have discovered something unexpected. We will use that. Surgebinders to act as guardians . . . Knights . . . The coming days will be difficult, but with training, humanity will survive. You must bring me to your leaders. The other Heralds should join us soon."
Stormlight ❤
“Vegeta command” lmfaooooo
We have some sort if “group mind”. Like when many people all do the same thing at once, or you and someone else look at each other, and both know that the other is thinking the exact same thing.
A knight is sworn to valor,
His heart knows only virtue,
His blade defends the helpless,
His might upholds the weak,
His word speaks only truth,
His wrath undoes the wicked
I never even thought of earth being a death world but it’s correct. Even now we have species that could kill us without even trying, we are real life Catachan.
I see that this is inspired by the Tyranids and Custodes. I always love stories that involve some type of power armor.
"They had an actual cape..."
All hero's wear capes.
On every planet our bombs bringing hope, these bullets are ballots I’m casting my vooottttteeeeee
Loved it.
Wish with all my heart this is what I hope humanity evolves into.
they called in the damn HellDivers XD
