My parents stopped supporting me when I decided to study performing arts... But now after I have become a full-time dancer and start generating income...the gap is suddenly gone...I guess they were just worried that I made the wrong choices and end up jobless like Nandini said...

My mom is a dowager. A dictator. Dad is "wifey boy". Tried talking to my parents. Nope. It turned out I was a bad kid. And they determined that I kena jampi. So sent me off to my aunt. Was abused by my aunt for 5years. Told my mom and her replied was that I am lying. Her sister won't do that. Her favourite son has been a mommy's boy. All of them are super duper superstitious. Takut jampi lah hantu lah that sort of thing. Me? I do not stand in religion. Agnostic. I find religion ruin lives. I got married. She even wanted to dictate my marriage live and my husband. That is when I just think she has really crosded the line. So my solution? Cut them off. Its been 4years I have left them. And seriously? I am living way much better happier without them.

I didnt want to enrol into my current university and now it is final year. For almost 3 years i kept on thinking all the what ifs and I remembered that everything they had done for me and my siblings. Also being the eldest doesnt give you much choice as you will sooner or later bear the price of responsibility. Alas, i am still grateful and thankful to them.

Kerja sektor awam pun salah satu pilihan mak bapak, especially bagi families yang risau tentang job security & pension benefits. Siapa yang dapat mak, bapak, atau both parents kerja dalam sektor awam, memang confirm kena push kaw2 utk join sektor awam sebab they just want you to get a job, not starve to death, not getting generous medical benefits and macam2 lagi. Sekarang, bila satu demi satu jawatan2 dalam sektor awam dah guna sistem kontrak (termasuk kerja cikgu) & tak jamin everybody will be employed secara kekal, most parents jadi buntu tak tahu nak recommend jawatan mana dalam sektor awam yang masih tawarkan job security dan pencen seumur hidup instead of KWSP/EPF.

For anyone who wants to take arts, please think about it many times. It's really really challenging. Ask yourself if your mental and heart is strong enough. All your works depending on your skills and creativity. This is the matter of survive. I regreted not follow my mother's choice. This course is torturing me.

My dream is to become a fashion designer..
I wanna continue my higher education after form5, it was a dream to me,
Only bcs of my parents i couldn't continue my studies (Father married another women when im in form3)(mother mentally disturbed like trauma due to this problem) after my studies form5 father left us me and my mother and sister alone.. Than i decided to work to support my family financially.. But i don't blame my faith and situation to stop my studies and make up any sad stories etc.. Really i don't like people's sympathy with me..
I work hard, save money, after some years i continue my studies in part time term.. And yess of course i don't get the opportunity in fashion design field, but i took IT line for better future.. At 2016 i successfully completed my diploma and now working at a private corp while part time again for degree... I sacrifice my dream is only for my mother and sister..
Moral of the story : be greater with whatever you have now, some of them don't even have what you have at your hand right now.. Tq

Graphic design is a matter of survive both in studying n career. Kerja nnti mau survive, susah. I am agree with u. My parents told me that, i can chosen any job, that i want. I think it’s good to give a help to chose job, but not at all. The children must work on the job that they like, because if you don’t like your job, you will not erned a lot of money, and exactly an attitude to this job will not be good, So i think that children should choose the work that they like. But sometimes it’s good to have a help of your parents!!

In Indonesia, every children who have their own opinion have to face these kind of parents who love to say "anak durhaka". People will believe that aaaaaaaaaaargh all of parents are always right (duh)
Stable job (plus work at infamous company)
    Stable income (plus high salary)
Because there's this thing called as gengsi (pride ? Wtf).

Honestly, now that i am 21 and my parents are in their 50s i have started to understand myself more and having my own identity and l had my life live my own terms i understand they wont understand certain things becaus the generation gap is there but i think bodyshaming anyone and being a racist isnt acceptable. Or like calling your daughter flatchested isnt respected. I have been noticing that my mother has been becoming really insecure in here skin and one day we were just sitting and she started comparing herself to me i mean we all have our insecurities but instilling them because you think its a joke and then saying its just a joke and asking me to forgive you because you're mother isnt acceptable. I don't know from which angle this is right but if i am comfortable in my body and i am self secured and just because the othe person isnt they dont have to potray their unhappiness towards me. And on top of that this woman has had a mysoginistic upbringing and i dont support it from any angle but lately she has been trying v hard to demean me or even like otehr woman i understand that the mindset cannot be changed about certain things but calling your daughter falt chested and saying things like who do you wanna show your small breasts to who do you wanna attract isnt really motherly i dont think any mother who loves her daughter would ever say that and on top of that i don't have the responsibility to take the burden if someone who doesn't have a life of her own and let it affect me because i understand people get lonely with time and its okay to support them whenever its okay with you as a human and adult but constantly being overly dependent isnt acceptable because we can do the bare minimum and i think thats more than enough. Just because youre not independent enough and you chose to not be like that but if your daugther is happy being independent and feeling liberated and doing things alone and is strong its absolutely remarkable. Constantly demeaning other women be it your daughther or anyone in general whether its their face or body or skin tone just because you have an insane amount of insecurities is just a showcase of your jealousy towards other and in 2023 its unacceptable. Like she has been trying to instill the age thing in me because she is around 54 and she has her insecurities which I would have understood if she had the decency to deal with them rather than being like this or even like this wont fit you anymore and shit like that and i mean i personally dont care because i know that my body wont remain the same all my life and i wont remain in my early 20s all my life and thats a natural process.you have a problem with me wearing something infront of you i understand but not when i am going out and i am comfortable. Like what am i even supposed to do. If you using makeup makes you feel secure it's good but thats not the case with everyone and telling them to become like that isnt acceptable either. And also, like just because you like being deoendent on your husband for everything not everyone wants to have a life like that some people appreciate their independence and freedom and take pride in it. Without any guilt. I mean if being that way is what makes you happy genuinely good for and if it makes you competitive and insecure then thats your problem dont tell others to lead a life the way you want them to. Its never to late to learn things if you really want to i guess. But if you don't its your life. That's all. :)

For example I wanna get a job, but mum say, that I'm too young. But I'm fourteen and I've got first document, so I can work in Ukraine for 4 hours. I agree with you and you are really cool advicer. kalau boleh bincang dulu.. slowtalk. if that doesnt work-- proceed with an evil (but not so evil) plan: masa apply tu you tunjuk you apply lain, but masa nak submit.. tukar ke u punya pilihan. yes, memang kita nak mak kita happy.. but in the end of the day, you will be facing that career for the rest of your life. apa-apa pun yang penting, masa kerja jangan pernah lupa depa. that would make them more than happy. itu saja nasihat saya :)
