UPDATE: Silly me- I should have made an animal skin quiver instead of the backpack- takes 1 puppet skin and when you cut it, it turns into an animal skin. I just confirmed this works
Animal skin is something I don't have a problem getting. Just yesterday I killed a bear and a wolf. the other wolf got away. Before the bear despawned another bear came up sniffing the dead bear. Turns out I didn't check my ammo so after I shot the first time I ran out. When I reloaded I was going to shoot the bear again but, it glitched and just disappeared. My base is outside the fence on the north side of the B2 airport just south of the town.

The rags still say 50% dirty. They just look whiter. Do you mean that this method makes the rags "not" infect you?
Yes, less chance for infection... BUT you can take it a step further to sterilize the new rags with absinthe or the isopropyl alcohol
You cannot do this anymore as puppets are not animals. It's in the patch notes.
