Just tried it in my ‘03 XTerra w/ 223k+ miles. Tick was so loud! Worked almost immediately. Just drove about 80 miles and it’s almost gone. Amazing stuff. Going to add it at every oil change. 👍
🤦🏾♂️ my 350 on my 1988 Chevy short bed obs was ticking/knocking hard to tell used this drove it a hour then changed the oil NO NOISE THIS IS GREAT STUFF!!!! Man was I nervous 😂
I was using Rislone when it came in steel cans. It worked miracles on old, neglected engines that we bought for our truck fleet. It also made a good light lubricating oil for electric motors. It was called Rislone Engine Treatment in the late 1960's and early 1970's, long before the industry transitioned to plastic bottles.
What brand do I use to put into engine oil 300 to 500 miles before oil change. Ford Taurus 2004 Ses. Thx (Theyve got 10,000 different formulas. What's the old school one?
I added this to my 2006 Acura MDX with 160,000 miles. After a few miles of driving, the car was quieter. I also noticed that at ideal, the tac needle is no longer flickering, and the RPMs at idle seem to be slightly lower. After using this product for the first time, I am a believer.
Keep in mind that GDI engines use a noisy high-pressure fuel pump. It is a mechanical pump that puts out around 3000 PSI and it will always click. My Tacoma with dual injection has all kinds of insulation in the area of the high-pressure fuel pump and has been noisy since day one. No valve lifter noise but plenty of fuel pump noise. Rislone will not fix normal fuel pump sound. It only removes sludge and varnish.
True story.. had a tick in my chevy 4.3 and tried marvel, moly etc. Still had the tick. Bought this at wal mart and added in parking lot. Drove home and checked sound... it worked... less than $5... it really worked....
I added regular Rislone to my engines years back. I put some down the carburetor first back then and got awesome immediate results. I’m retired to Colombia now and will try using this product the same way as regular Rislone in California. Fingers are crossed. I have sticky valves.
Last week I started up one of my older cars a 94 Grand Cherokee with a 5.2 L V8 I’ve owned it for about 10 years put about 30,000 miles on it.(not a primary car just a “station car”). I haven’t driven the jeep in about two weeks and I noticed that on start up last week a ticking sound from the I’m thinking the number two cylinder This engine always sounded great prior to that. I bought the Rislone because it was the only product that mentioned anything about Quieting noisy lifters at the parts store. I did an oil change and added 1 quart of the Rislone at first it did nothing but I let it idle for about 5 or 10 minutes after the oil change just to let iy cycle through. The sound completely went away and I think the engine sounds better today then it has ever sounded during my entire ownership of it so far I’m completely impressed with it. I mentioned this to my father about Rislone and he said that his father always swore by it back in the 50s and 60s and 70s and I think from now on when I do An oil change I’m going to just use 1 quart of that because I am completely impressed with it I cannot believe that the sound completely went away but time will tell if it comes back obviously I don’t believe in the miracle in a jar But I can tell you the ticking noise completely went away in this jeep.
Ok guys my dad was a Diesel and car mechanic all his life. One of the best I have ever seen. He Never lost a engine and it's only because he used Pennzoil and rislone engine treatment together. To this day that all I ever will yous in my engine. ITS GOOD STUFF! Rislone will not fix an already damaged engine, Only prolong it
Put a bottle of this in my 02’ gmc Sierra with the 4.3l v6 and really noisy lifters. I drove maybe 4 miles and there’s not a single peep now. I’m sure everyone’s car will vary due to it being different engine capacities, design and normal wear and tear as well as how much gunk it needs to remove. Luckily, nearly 4 miles did it for me. Great stuff!
It satisfies my OCD for various snake oils I use. Been using it for 30 years. maybe more. I also use Lucas. Cheap insurance. My cars are all 25 years young. One of my cars is 55 years old. I use Mystery oil in that. It is a mystery. Has 270K on it. That lifter is sure loud. Try Lucas. Good luck!
Bought a 2005 Caddy SRX with the notorious timing chain killer the 3.6 V6. Bought it at 100.000 miles used 1 bottle every change, now at 250.000 miles runs like a clock.
Bought a clean used '05 GMC Canyon 4cyl. P/U with 220 K miles on it. Changed the oil immediately (it needed it) and added a bottle of this product. Noticed that after just 400 miles on the fresh oil change, the new motor oil had become VERY dark, near black. Obviously, this engine was full of deposits that the Rislone removed quickly & completely . Changed the motor oil again, now it has stayed clean & bright looking for the last 2000 miles I have driven it. This stuff WORKS as advertised.....
I did this to my Audi 1.8T and it fixed the problem completely. My engine had only just began to tick so I think getting to the problem early could be key.
rislone used to make these 1 quart bottles that just said rislone on them and didnt have all that engine treatment stuff on there. It was blue like that and its probably the same stuff. Instructions said you could dump all your oil and refill the motor entirely with rislone and let the engine idle for 30 min. Then dump it and add fresh oil. I did that on an old chevy twice. It seemed to help some of the ticks a little bit but i did notice when i dumped the used rislone it was super dirty. I ended up replacing a head gasket on that car years later (i dogged it pretty bad) i remember noticing that the engine inside was super clean. Maybe frequent oil changes (every 3k) and even the rislone as well helped. Not a miracle cure though but it does something.
Back in the 70s and 80s it was labeled as auto racer Smokey Yunicks endorsed Shalers Rislone, blue in color. And it did a pretty good job of keeping my overhead cam engines pretty free of varnish. No sign of sludge on the valve deck and I did oil changes every 3000 miles back in the day. 5k these days using full synthetic oil.
In California I was told by a retired aircraft mechanic to put some down the carburetor. It freed my sticky valve problem immediately. I’m retired in Colombia now and my 1954 Willys has sticky valves. I ordered this on line. I can’t wait to get it.
hey speaking from a past Kia Rio owner only way you are going to help that GDI engine is spraying CRC Intake Valve cleaner in it i advise spraying it every 2 weeks 3 times then before every oil change you spray it through the pcv valve hose because GDI engines are totally different animals
In days gone by, to desludge a motor we would add a quart of atf and run it for a while then change the oil. That would help some. Best bet, change oil a few times a year.
I just bought a 2007 Nissan Titan with 155,000 miles and it had a code of P0011. I added the Rislone and drove about 200 miles and the code is gone.... The P0011 is about valve train and I thought the last owner never changed the oil like he should of, so I tried it and IT WORKED. I am sold on this product on older cars.

I like the product, lab tests have shown it contains about 10% ester by weight however as far as additives not a ton. Some phosphorus, calcium, boron really nothing in the bottle has a higher concentration of additives than normal motor oil so it kinda dilutes stuff a bit but the ester is nice.
those kids are direct gas injection that also causes a clicking noise so try it on a non gdi. gas direct inje tion into which shoots fuel strait in and makes. constant click
William Lansdowne correct but that is not the cause. The click of the high pressure fuel pump has more of a higher pitch tick. This tick is from the valve area and was diagnosed with a stethoscope
this is lifter tick. i have a toyota that is port and direct injection makes identical noise. its just wear and tear my car has 250k and ticks. i put rislone and marvel mystery in it and got a very similar result. it doesnt solve the tick it just quiets it down some. the only real fix is to redo the heads which im not gonna do right now so im going to drive it until engine failure and rebuild
@@robstyles2675 I wouldn't drive it to total failure as your block could be harmed, knowing your car you could probably keep an ear open for the right time, before failure while also using up the engine, in the process on my 2010 Grand Caravan, 300K miles and it's circling the drain
@@vacexpert2020 Ha well nice time to make an update. Just passed 277,000 miles the tick is barely noticeable after using the rislone and marvel mystery oil constantly. This car is still taking me work daily. I have made bets with friends this car will run as is until at least 350k. im not that far off. #toyota
Likely need to run it through a few oil changes before noticing a big difference. It take some time to get the sludge contaminates out that might have built up in the lifter. Change oil more regularly. Every 2500 miles or 3 months if one doesn't drive too much is a good rule of thumb on high milage rigs. Might seem excessive, but hey, what's a guy have to lose if he gets to 300k plus on engine.
Noticed a lifter ticking noise on my 2005 F-150, 5.4 over the past few months. Used the Rislone and after a few hundred miles the noise did quiet down and mpg picked. Having about 3K on the oil and will do another oil change with this formula of Rislone. The tick is still there but much quieter. Any suggestions are welcomed.
Try Lucas Oil Stabilizer. I’ve used both and both are good, but if your engine has a lot of wear I found Lucas is better. Do an oil change and add 3 quarts of oil stabilizer and then top off with your required oil.
@@TheWalk23 do keep an ear out though, every 2004-2008 5.4 Triton has a pretty serious design flaw, unless it's an upgraded engine from Jasper or whoever else it'll get that death rattle which is costly to fix properly, you can just replace the heads but it'll only last a few miles before having the same problem again
@@TheWalk23 trying rislone for my 06-150 5.4 Triton. I've got a pretty loud tapping sound. If this doesn't work which product did you find worked best for your F-150? Thx
i have a ford mondeo with one cylinder compression pressure at 70 while the remaining 3 at 160, do you think Rislone gonna work fixing the stuff? I appreciate any guidance.
Hey Andy, thanks for your honest review. My engine isn't ticking, but previous owners neglected this thing. It's a GM 4 cyl w/turbo. There was about 1&1/2" of sludge inside the oil fill cap(didn't see this until I got it home👎). What product/s would be best for a good internal clean out, that is also safe for the turbo? Thanks.
I would drain the oil and sludge out and do a flush with Motor Medic Engine Flush. I do use engine flush chemicals normally, but when I have I’ve used Motor Medic.
@@PhillipsVision thanks for your reply. I actually did that earlier this month, and it freed up a sticking solenoid. I was thinking of repeating this perhaps the next 1-2 changes as well. Do you think that this, or any other flush, could do any harm to the turbo?
rislone says to add 1qt to 4-6qts oil.you added 16oz...1/2qt.not sure if the extra would help but it calls for 1qt at an oil change which would eliminate 1qt of oil.nice vid.
Good video. On your video of before and after you did not have the oil cap close in one. Are you dealing with the oil consumption issue most Kia’s have?
Are you still using 5w20 or switching to the 5w30. My mechanic suggested that to us and check engine oil level frequently. Just wondering what you do. You have more miles on your Kia than ours.
It’s direct injection fuels not cleaning off the back of the valve what you have to do is spray intake cleaner for the intake to clean the valves off that’s what I’m making a ticking noise It’s not like the old multi port direct injection where the fuel actually sprays on the back of the intake valve and cleans it
@@PhillipsVision have you checked to see if the motor is on recall? Look like the car is a optima? 2014? I know my neighbor has a 15 optima and hers was on recall
I have a 1990 RX-7 (rotary engine). Does anyone know if these types of additives are OK to use with this type of engine or better to stick with pre-mixing w/ 2-stroke oil?
My 05 escape is making the same ticking im assuming its gonna take the noise down slightly just like yours if there is anything better i'd like to know thanks
I enjoyed the video but it’s a Kia. And they have motor bearing issues on the 4 cylinder due to the so called Siamese short block. Anyway have had valve issues on older cars and used many products from auto parts stores. Probably 12. I’m sure most did some good somewhere but never took the hydraulic noise from the one lifter I had ticking. I was at an Ace store and saw a product called tufoil and bought it and within one hundred miles it was gone. And the tick never came back after several oil changes. And I never could find the product again. So I assume it had been discontinued. This was back in the 80s. I now have a 2016 Kia and have the valve tick. I’ve tried the same auto parts stuff and not really helping much. I see now you can still buy it but it not sold In stores. I have order it directly from manufacturer and will try it on my Kia to see. I also see it has a great following. This product is now in the Guinness book of world records. Here a part of what it says on the fluoramics website who makes the product Engine Treatment There are so many engine treatments on the market today, it’s all but impossible to stand out from the crowd without resorting to dramatic infomercials or paying some high-priced spokesperson to give a convincing testimonial. You may have noticed that we don’t do any of those things and yet we’ve earned worldwide notoriety. Several years ago, the Guinness Book of World Records chose Tufoil as “The World’s Most Efficient Lubricant.” To this day, we are the ONLY engine treatment in the Guinness Book. So far, no one has been able to break that record! We’ll never see the low gas prices from years ago again! But we can get the most out of what we have to pay today. Smart drivers rely on Tufoil® for help in creating improved engine efficiency! Tufoil is “The World’s Most Efficient Lubricant.” Efficient-running engines use less gas! Tufoil was tested by the United States Government at their federal laboratory (The National Bureau of Standards, now known as NIST) and passed with flying colors. NIST determined that Tufoil has a surface friction so low that it makes Tufoil the most slippery substance known to man.
Not only that it's a Kia; your engine is filthy! Geeze, no wonder it's ticking. Keep your engines clean folks. You will be surprised at how much that helps in maintaining an engine and for a very long time.
Well you also can’t record the noise before rislone with the oil cap off and after rislone with oil cap on. Of course it would be louder. And at different angles or positions.
My 04 sonata 2.7 v6 has this tick for about 3 miles an vanishes completely idk if its cus it was sitting or not but as far as i know it has no additives in the oil
You should change the oil, but since it was just done you may be fine. You will need to drain out 1 quart to make room for this, otherwise you’ll overfill it
I used their ring seal formula. That did help with the oil consumption. It was suggested to me by O'reilly's by the way. Rislone has been around for a long time.
Does it have to be rislone engine treatment or can I get another brand cannot get hold of rislone quick you see please advice what other I can get thank you

Hi, thanks for the video much appreciated. I read all the comments that's awesome how you take time to reply. I subscribed bcz everyone needs a good go to mechanic and your videos I'm sure will help out along the way just the knowledge and the name of product is helpful. I knew there was something to be able to add to oil when its changed or a qrt or 3 are added. I just didnt know the name :) my vehicle started knocking after work, funny thing I was planning on getting oil change tomrw had to add a few qrts just to be on the safe side at the auto store I couldn't think of the name and the people weren't of much help. I found your video while researching what might be the issue. I will add this tomrw see if it helps 🙏 & on your comments replied you said Lucas Oil Stabalizer. I will try both ? Can you mix both or only one to oil change?. I will write back to inform how it worked on my high mileage 2008 vehicle. Thanks again 🙏
Thanks for the comment. If you already have a ticking sound I would recommend Lucas since I found that one worked better. I have a product review video on my channel for that one as well. It’s important to always check your oil levels, because if they get low you can cause problems which can result in major repairs. You don’t want to over fill the oil either. I wouldn’t recommend adding both additives (Rislone and Lucas), just one or the other.

#toyota
Excellent to the point video sir! No Nonsense! 👍
Thanks👍
@@PhillipsVision Picking this up for the gti clubsport tommorow! I hope its safe for catalyctic converters as were swapping downpipe soon.
I use Rislone and other engine-potions, they do help quiet the ratty-beast.
Transmission used Oil works Great mix with motor oil 😊
This product is great if you have an engine that has been totally neglected.
A fifteen minute miracle.
Tick might be the 3v death rattle, only real way to fix it is replace the whole top end and have the oil passages machined out
@@vacexpert2020 It's since quietened. Used another product by Best Line. But thanks

Maybe, but if it’s too bad you will need it to take it to a mechanic
Got 98 chevy s10 I'm going to give this a try
Did it work?
Good video. Thanks for sharing.
Liqui Moly lifter additive works
@@jefffoley1640 I don’t think so, but you can check with the product manufacturer for confirmation.
Thanks man.
rislone says to add 1qt to 4-6qts oil.you added 16oz...1/2qt.not sure if the extra would help but it calls for 1qt at an oil change which would eliminate 1qt of oil.nice vid.
Thanks for the input
1 bottle for 5 quarts of oil, 1 bottle is 16.9 ounces. Says it on the bottle and their website.
That engine on Hyundai have a recall for oil filter problem your need put a oem oil filter and put a 5/30 engine oil
Good video. On your video of before and after you did not have the oil cap close in one. Are you dealing with the oil consumption issue most Kia’s have?
Yep
Are you still using 5w20 or switching to the 5w30. My mechanic suggested that to us and check engine oil level frequently. Just wondering what you do. You have more miles on your Kia than ours.
@@cesarpenailillo6627 I’m using 5w-20
It’s direct injection fuels not cleaning off the back of the valve what you have to do is spray intake cleaner for the intake to clean the valves off that’s what I’m making a ticking noise It’s not like the old multi port direct injection where the fuel actually sprays on the back of the intake valve and cleans it
The ticking is normal on that car it’s a gdi engine. All Kia and Hyundai gdi engines do that it’s the direct injectors that’s making the noise now
Correct, but this vehicle had issues beyond that. The GDI fuel pump is not as loud as this issue was.

I'd like to see a review on Lucas oil stabilizer, or even Marvs mystery oil. Thanks for the review, good job! Thanks!!
49er_415er actually working on Lucas now, will be posting next week
My 05 escape is making the same ticking im assuming its gonna take the noise down slightly just like yours if there is anything better i'd like to know thanks
After a couple tests I came up with what I feel worked best. Here’s the link to that video...
th-cam.com/video/A5X-CJLQfxA/w-d-xo.html
it can fix a stuck lifter but not a lose one
How long should I keep it in my crankcase if I add it to a new oil change? Is it ok to run it for 3,000 miles? Thanks
It stays in until the next oil change, and if needed add another one with the next oil change
Can I add it in now? I got my oil changed a bout a week ago
Yes
Will you do mine on Marvins Mystery Oil?
I think the fact that engine is most likely direct injection is causing a lot of noise
Correct, the GDI will make a ticking noise; however, there were other issues with the engine
Hello,Do you pour it in the same place you add motor oil?
Yes, the crankcase
That stuff works i tried it that car has other problems going on
Ty for info & video..
Here a part of what it says on the fluoramics website who makes the product
Engine Treatment
There are so many engine treatments on the market today, it’s all but impossible to stand out from the crowd without resorting to dramatic infomercials or paying some high-priced spokesperson to give a convincing testimonial.
Does this stuff contain ZINC???? and can I use it on a new car?
Do you put the Treatment with New Oil Change? Or Old Oil?
@@luisponce1472 preferably when you do your oil change
Seafoam will help unstick a lifter. I wouldn't constantly run it. Acts like a motor flush somewhat. Good before an oil change.
Rislone works better then Seafoam for its a zinc treatment, Seafoam is a solvent (mineral oil and naphtha)
After using this need to change oil quickly??
No, just leave it in with the oil.
Works better on port injection vehicles, instead of gasoline direct injection engines
Just used this on my 2006 eclipse, hoping this helps.
did it work?
did you sort out the lifter ticking noise yet?
How many miles before it should quiet it down?
@@Easystreet208 depends on the damage
@@PhillipsVision ok! It’s a little quieter after 50miles
looks like its working good for me just for 1 month.
Will it pass emission test though?
"The Bay Bridge!"
Yes, in MD
Wil it also clean dirty and sticky piston rings? Thanks
It should, but read the container to confirm
@@PhillipsVision yeah rislone says it does but in general about pistonrings and cleaning additive I read things that it is impossible
My 04 sonata 2.7 v6 has this tick for about 3 miles an vanishes completely idk if its cus it was sitting or not but as far as i know it has no additives in the oil
Make sure your oil level is good.
@@PhillipsVision If it's got hydraulic timing tensioners they could be leaky
Barely put some in 125,000 miles on my truck & Barely change the oil an I didn't have that problem I just want it to clean the engine
It works!!!
Can I just add it to my car without an oil change? I just recently got an oil change done about 3 months ago when I did not know about this product
You should change the oil, but since it was just done you may be fine. You will need to drain out 1 quart to make room for this, otherwise you’ll overfill it
Can you do a review if it does help in engine oil consumption
I used their ring seal formula. That did help with the oil consumption. It was suggested to me by O'reilly's by the way. Rislone has been around for a long time.
Depends on why it’s consuming oil, it can help.
Mine just started ticking Dodge Ram 2005 srt10 8.3 take 8.5 quarts oil how many Lucas Oil Stabilizer should I add
You can add up to 60% of Lucas, so for 8.5 quarts you can use about 5 quarts and 3.5 regular oil
Add only 2 quarts of lucas oil.
Do not put lucas oil treatment in an MDS Hemi.
What did you end up putting and How much?

I wouldn’t recommend adding both additives (Rislone and Lucas), just one or the other.
you don’t even have to drive the car. just slowly bring up the rpms slowly then let them down slowly.
I have ford ranger 2002 4.o 6 sylinder auto the tick is only when you start it a few minutes goes away what should i use
Doesn’t sound too bad. Make sure you keep your oil level good and add Lucas Engine Oil Stabilizer at each oil change
@@PhillipsVision Sounds to me like timing, maybe a leaky hydraulic tensioner if equipped, Ford products are known for leaky tensioners, I own 3 of 'em so I speak from experiece
