It's the movie Jailhouse Rock. He starred in 31 movies. He is also the only person to be inducted in all music hall of fame, Rock, Country, Rythm and Blues, Gospel and rockabilly. He has a catalog of over 700 songs recorded.
Elvis was just 22 years old when he did this movie, & already a global superstar …. The very first global superstar, & there were absolutely No standards for him to follow, so he had to set the standards as he went along in his career. A year later, in 1958, he was drafted into the army … “drafted & shafted” as he would later say, but the army did help to mature him. The most incredible thing is that although he had two years in West Germany, where he apparently did not sing publicly at all, just at the private home he set his father up in, & sometimes for his barrack mates, Elvis still had a big fan base in Europe & when he returned to America, the fans were waiting. Apart from a guest appearance in The Frank Sinatra Show, which you have already done a reaction to, Elvis made no other public public appearances. He recorded some songs. Did a few interviews, which he hated doing due to his shyness, & then he reinvented himself as an actor, becoming the Highest paid actor in Hollywood. He hated the lightweight musicals he was doing, & in 1968 when his movie contract was finally up, he did the ‘68 Comeback Special (that’s what it’s now known as), & he returned to live performances, embracing the global superstardom he still had. He was an Amazing man …. A humanitarian. Humble, in spite of the huge success he had. And what a voice & personality. It would be great for us fans to see you getting to know Elvis as a person, to see some of the horror & hate he had to go through as a teenager grappling with stardom & hatred, for bringing something never seen before to the music scene.
He's still the biggest selling solo artist of all time. Another fantastic early video of his is Trouble from 1958, has another gritty vocal performance.
Elvis choreographed this number. You should check out Mean Woman Blues, I Got a Lot of Living To Do from the movie Loving You. From the movie King Creole, the songs King Creole, Trouble, Crawfish, from the movie Fun in Alcupoca Bossa Nova Baby

Some will credit Bill Haley and the Comets, who performed in a couple of films before Elvis. My recollection is that those consist of mostly the band performing on a stage for the camera. This is a story being told, choreographed dancing, not a band just playing for the camera, so that's a likely distinction.
Right, it´s from his movie with the same name. Elvis was involved in the choreography and this scene is officially awarded as the first music video ever.

the year I was born. Such a classic song! Funnily enough my Elvis fave song is "Edge Of Reality" from the 1968 movie "Live A Little Love A Little"....the Great Dane dog & Elvis driving that dune buggy are the scenes I remember 🤩
He was 21 yrs old when he sang this song in the his movie that he is making. No one dances like this before, Elvis. This is his own style. No one can imitate him.
A classic! Written by songwriting team Leiber & Stoller, a couple of Jewish guys who wrote some of the most famous tracks in rock history, including "Hound Dog" and "Stand by Me."
Leiber and Stoller had deep knowledge of blues and R'nB music, but they said when they worked with Elvis, he knew more than they did. They were very impressed by that as well as by his enormous talent.
Lieber and Stoller wrote Hound Dog for Big Mama Thornton who recorded it first. Elvis made it a hit. There was segregation even in music back then that Elvis helped to undo.
The movie "Jailhouse Rock" is a really good film. A gorgeous drama with an excellent cast. Fr. This and "King Creole" are both great stories, with A-list cast, and gorgeous soundtracks. And yeah, his early stuff is raw and badass.
The King, I had to come here to see this. Early Elvis. Elvis is my favorite artist. I love a lot of different music, but no one compares to Elvis. He's been gone 47 years, crazy. Crazy so has my mom.
It's from the movie "Jail House Rock". A drama / musical. The scene was about a TV show about a singer who had been in jail. Good movie. Lots of drama, music and romance. ELVIS IS KING!
Elvis had it all. No one has come close to him. Meet him in Hawaii and went to 4 or his concerts. He was dazzling. man. Drop dead gorgeous!!! Thank you for covering the king.
There’s a reason he’s called the “King of Rock N Roll” Elvis was the greatest. Jail House Rock probably up there with Blue Suede Shoes and Teddy Bear, A Little Less Conversation, Suspicious Minds, man the list is huge! But honestly if you want to truly hear Elvis’s voice, you Must, MUST LISTEN TO: “. If I Can Dream” from his 1968 Come Back Special. OMG it’s so emotional and powerful. It is a “Must” you guys!
Elvis has a wonderful catalogue across multiple genres. For impressive vocal range "Tomorrow Never Comes", "Hurt (live)", "You`ll Never Walk Alone". For Rockin Elvis "Mean Woman Blues", "I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water", "Promised Land". Gospel Elvis "Milky White Way", " Where No One Stands Alone (with Lisa his daughter)", "Crying In The Chapel". Soul Elvis "Any Day Now", "Rubber Neckin", "Stranger In The Crowd". I could put up many more but I believe these tracks would be both enlightening for your audience and you. Great reaction Hi from Ireland.
I never get tired of seeing that, so much fun. This was on the radio a lot when I was really really young and I loved hearing it every time it came on. As a little kid, it just makes you want to dance and act it out.
There are so many gems to be found in visiting the past. The Glenn Miller Band, Billie Holiday, The Andrew Sisters, Bing Crosby, and so many more. Thank you for reacting to Elvis. Never enough of that talented man!
I got to see Elvis in concert back in 1973 or 74, don't remember which. He was just as entertaining then as he was in this excerpt from the movie "Jailhouse Rock". If I remember right, this except is from a TV show that they were doing in the movie.
Elvis starred in 31 movies, and Jailhouse Rock was his 3rd. This scene is part of a TV show in the movie. Elvis has been taught how to sing while in jail and when he gets out he becomes a star. His voice in the 50s is raw and rocky, it becomes beautifully melodic and sweet in the early 60s and has matured by the 70s. As you will have realised by now he can sing pretty much any type of music.
You have to realize Elvis was so far ahead of his time. There was nothing that resembled this. It was revolutionary for that time. He (and the early rock’s roll pioneers like ChuckBerry, Little Richard, etc.) changed music forever. I was an early teen at this time and looked forward to his early movies. He was so entertaining. For me, I loved his movie King Creole the best. It had a good story and the music was great. Thanks so much for reacting to Elvis. 👏👏🥰
Great reaction with insight. Others will give you the details but we are told Elvis never watched this film as his co star Judy Tyler was killed in a car crash a couple of weeks after filming finished. His film before this was Loving You with the fabulous Mean Woman Blues in well worth seeing, which he also never saw again as his beloved mother was in it.
Can't believe you didn't know the history of this song! Makes me feel old just hearing you say that (I'm 76). There were no videos in those days (no cell phones, no internet, no TH-cam!) , just movies and very new television. Man you would not believe the reaction Jailhouse Rock got when it was shown in theatres around the world. Kids got up out of their seats and danced in the aisles when Elvis sang that song. Some cinemas refused to show it after the first time because the kids wrecked the place. Wild times.

Hound dog broke (made) him famous nationwide but, Jailhouse made him huge internationally. The world’s iconic rocker.
