Surface tension me bahut jaan h!

  • Water easily holds a think needle on its surface by applying surface tension. The surface is the reason how does mosquito walk on water? Surface tension is the reason behind the water stays in drops on leaves. But how can we find the surface tension by water? In this video i have measured surface tension with a weighing scale. The needle is intensely pulled by the water surface by applying surface tension when we increase weight from other side. The moment needle leave the water surface, the weight becomes equal to the surface tension of water. Surface tension can also be measured by capillary action. #shorts #education #science #physics #facts ‪@CONCEPTUALGURUJI‬

This is probably wrong method due to these points:
    1) Force due to surface tension is not downwards it's tangential to the pin as pin is not linear, it's getting circular. Refer to second point for direction of force due to surface tension
    2) Let the tangent makes angle ∆ with water surface so cos∆ components cancelled out and sin∆ component adds up in upwards direction, as ∆ is very small so sin∆=∆. So equilibrium equation becomes 2Tl∆=mg (m=mass of pin)
    3) When you increase tension of thread you must be careful that it just lift up as on "just lift up" condition force due to surface tension vanishes and as it is just getting lifted so a=0 so Mg=mg (M=mass of sand, m=mass of pin)
    So we got two equations
    A) 2Tl∆=mg
    B) Mg=mg
    As M,l is known so
    2Tl∆=Mg
But the problem is we don't know ∆.

Surface tension acts in upward direction opposite to the weight of needle that's why it's floating but didn't you just put weight = wt. Of needle + adhesion force (b/w needle and water)- force of buoyancy.
And surface tension is different than that

Surface trnsion is because of the cohesion properties of water but this is working because of the adhesion property
If cohesive forces are less then adhesive property then this may give accurate results.
But if adhesive forces are weaker it may break before actual limit of cohesive forces
