If TFG wasn't clueless about our history, he would know that we allowed self-serving politicians to meddle in monetary policy including setting interest rates prior to the 1970s and that was partly responsible for the years of stagflation we experienced back then. After the debacle of 1970s, we left monetary policy up to the FED as their exclusive responsibility to balance inflation against employment and the results have been a more stable economy.
