Im a therapist that was working in a mental hospital and dangerous group home at that time. Pulled 125 hr work weeks working doubles and quads. On the 6th shift in a row, I was in the shower and heard a patient knock on the bathroom door and ask for a snack. I said hold on ill be with you when Im done. I got out of the shower and no one was there.
....because I was in my own house and my mind didnt even transition.
No idea how I drove home or even what time of day it was.
You loose it.
Scary stuff.
125 hour work week? Was that optional
I have experienced something familiar. Got back from work, laid in bed and I felt how my mind got torn piece by piece by piece until nothing was left. I couldn't tell what was right or wrong, or what thoughts were real and what were not, it was like my personality faded out of existence and I basically lost my mind. I don't ever want to experience that....
@@nicholasvargas3406for doctors 90 hours is normal, but for an understaffed hospital, it could be even worse as described.
“lose” not “loose” 🤦🏻♂️
It's crazy what deprivation will do to the mind. I once had a stint of ~200 hours with only 9-10 hours of sleep involved over the whole experience due to everyone but me suddenly being out on leave at work and boy did things start looking a little wobbly. I was the only person in the department for around 5 months and the worst of it got really strange.
Towards the last half, the world didn't feel real anymore, like I was in this perpetual dream state. At the edges of my mind I felt that everything was made of paper or sometimes oil and everything felt tilted forward, like I was walking down a shallow ramp. It was all a concept or a sensation rather than anything I actually saw but it felt so strong.
The little black shapes skittering across the floor were an interesting addition, too, not to mention the occasional knocking on the walls around me accompanied by the feeling of sharp electric jolts throughout my body. Those kept me awake at work pretty well.
Pretty sure that wasn't healthy.
I work overnights and routinely stay away 50+ hours at a time and things get wierd after hour 36, you find yourself in the middle of conversations with people that are not there. Reading a screen is almost impossible, micro naps happen and you cant predict or stop them. The world becomes very disjointed on day 3 of being awake.

After a serious motorcycle accident, my nephew died in our arms in the hospital. Because I was in such shock I barely slept for about 5 days (maybe 2 hours total). I then had to recover from severe sleep deprivation for 2 years. I had moments where I just didn't know where I was, or how I got somewhere, or who I was talking to and what it was about. I have now recovered, but I am convinced that severe sleep deprivation is very harmful and dangerous. It felt like I was living in a different world. Make sure you get your rest. No matter what. There is no excuse for damaging your brain. ❤

Had to ask my partner what happened over the last 10 minutes. He said that I was sitting at a table in the hospital with the laptop and PCR open, mumbling to myself but looked fully awake and normal.
Gotta love the fire and medical service. I’ve been there plenty of times too lol
This happens to me often. Im narcoleptic and I'll frequently be like half asleep while trying to stay up during a sleep attack and dream myself doing things and in reality i never actually moved. Ill quickly notice if its when im trying to double tap to go back 10 seconds in a you tube video and it doesn't go back and keeps playing ill realize and wake back up fully. As a teenager, i had severe mental health issues and insomnia, and one week during 10th grade i went 6 days on about 4 hours (total) of sleep. Unless youve expierienced it yourself, its hard to grasp. You find yourself in states of confusion, hallucinating, not remembering things that just happened, and yes - time seemingly going so slow it doesnt seem possible
Sleep deprivation is something i would never wish on anyone. Genuine torture of the mind and psyche
Edit: for the people who lack reading comprehension skills: That is 4 hours of sleep in 6 days. Total. Less than 40 mins per night. Read and use your brain before assuming you're "cool" for getting 4-5 hours a night when most adults function on 5 hours sleep.
one time i went 4 days with 5 hrs of sleep and i felt burning in my eyes, barely being able to focus my eyes on something, a repeated feeling of tiredness that turned into severe headaches, each time i closed my eyes for too long i would almost fall asleep, and having that feeling in your throat when you just got sick (not a sore throat though). i dont understand how elon musk used to survive on 5 or less hours of sleep
Man on my exams i was sleeping everyday for something like 1 or 2 hours everyday and just studying non stop sometimes i would feel like my body is being pierced with needles and sometimes my brain would even stop processing things it just feels like I'm dead and also while sleeping 1 to 2 hours a day my body was turning incapable of sleeping it was just pure LSD
Sensory and sleep deprivation is literally the most terrifying form of torture a human could endure

I was working as a gate guard on a construction site. If there were people around for banter and if you had stuff to do, or if you had nothing to do but at least you had the cabin, the days went fine. But if you worked the western side where no deliveries ever came, and they had no room for a cabin so you had to walk the same 20 square feet for eight hours a day in the cold rushes of the barren cliffsides, that was absolute hell and I genuinely understood what David was talking about. It was especially dangerous for your brain if you hadn't slept enough the night before, which you sometimes didn't do since your body never got to do labor during the day before, so you went to bed even later and had even more of a hellscape the next day. Everybody, and I mean everybody of our gate guard team hated the west side shift. I'm lucky it was a hospital we built and not a luxury apartment complex. That mentally motivated me a lot throughout the years of construction.
I stayed awake for three and a half days back in college to get some essays done. Naturally I wanted to celebrate getting it all finished and not bombing lmao Things started subtly at first, things started looking wavy at times, shadows appearing and disappearing. I made the mistake of having a “celebratory smoke”. I remember leaving a buddies house in the middle of the night and shadow people running through the trees, and swinging through the branches. I could hear them whispering but it sounded like a roaring wave. All I could make out was “he’s vulnerable, don’t lose him, we can take him now” I started freaking out and telling my buddy to speed up we needed to leave. We got to the campus and I could hear footsteps running all around me, I bolted for the door and I could hear banging on it when I made it inside. My buddy was walking up and I kept screaming for him not to open the door or they’d get me. Mind you, it was like 3 in the morning so people started coming out of their rooms to see wtf was going on. I didn’t see people though, dark figures with faces made of white static just buzzing at me angrily is what I saw. I ran to my room and woke up like a day and a half later. I’ve never felt so close to a mental breakdown. Sleep deprivation is fucking scary.

I always thought how crazy it was that the only thing stopping you from losing your mind is a forced code in our creation called sleep that resets it everyday.
The real question is, why does sleeping keep you sane ? What exactly are you doing in your sleep that keeps your mind sharp and aware ?
@@BxPanda7 we’re doing nothing, that’s the whole point. Your body needs rest especially your brain to process normal thoughts to function normally to do whatever we do

The amount of time it takes for you to see things and hear things that are not there is supposed to be three days at most, after that you start hallucinating
It can be alot less, there are also more aspects, like you feel stressed it happens faster, if your old or young, if your body is used to it or not

Why is it when I state a fact that I get this many likes?
That 1 min before punching out at work
Me looking at the clock while doing a plank:
How Kakashi felt in the tsyukiomi 💀
I did 10 hours and my head hurt like crazy.I started seeing stuff and it’s felt like an eternity each second.
Stg this how the last hour of my shift goes
When i stay days without sleeping well i began to imagine stuff and hear voices i swear
I stayed up for 3 days once in my life, and it was to play games, go to school, and hang out with my friends. I repeated that for 3 days. First thing I experience was after 24 hours and dragging for 2 or 3 hours I felt like I'd caught my second wind and I was zooming after 48 everything was sluggish and I was tripping thinking I was hearing things when I wasn't I passed out on 72 sometime in the afternoon when I was at home becausd I started hearing things and seeing shadows move and I wasn't down with that. Most peaceful sleep I ever had, and it was from saturday afternoon to sunday afternoon.
I did 2 days and a half. And i didnt feel anything at all except slower processing and a slight headache. Why is this?
@SmittenAce not enough running around is my guess. I used to run around and smoke cigarettes and weed with my friends, except I didn't smoke weed when I had my 3 day marathon but I did climb a roof, a few trees, and ran across my town and back a few dozen times.
@@SmittenAce .
I did 6 days and fell asleep on day 6/7 and slept for 18 hours straight, I didn't see or notice anything different tho (it was also to work and play games)
@@stealthytrapper2328 mabye you are able to microsleep like that one old man is

I remember losing it like that before. Having full blown conversations with people that aren’t there and then realizing is scary.
Me waiting for the oven to pre heat for my tray of dino nuggies 🥺
Bro no joke I was thinking of this clip last night and I have no shorts that are related to this so there was no way I could accidentally stumble open it but when I first go on shorts this is the clip. What a coincidence 😂
Same thing happened with me few times 😂 its weird
Stayed awake for 2 - 3days because I was badly sick and body decided not to sleep. My body kept telling me to shut down, I would throw up, fall over into a sleep for one minute, throat pain, fever, vomit or runny nose would wake me up after seconds after laying down, wash rinse repeat for the whole night. I have never had a more torturous week than that one, no pain meds, ran out of 6 tissue boxes in 1.5 days. The sickness lasted for 29 days but I was able to sleep after the 5th. I pretty regularly stay up for 24 - 40 hours but nothing was as bad as that month.
I go through bouts with insomnia every so often...once you get past 36-48 hours...shit starts really fucking with you.
That's me in a clothing store with my mom be like😂
“My eyes go out”
“So I’m looking around-“

You in another reality It's hard to explain it's like you're about dead
I worked in landscaping and I was the driver , I stayed up for 3 days in a row just cuz I wanted to play bo3 and Fortnite when it came out . I would go to work and go to the houses having no clue or memories how I drive It felt like I was only living in that exact moment and the past didn’t matter nor did the future and I would have so many hallucinations from Micky mouse on the road jumping in front of me to huge spiders on the walls and weird shadows I can’t explain
Might of lost some life span doing that . Pls don’t try it’s not worth it
