Worth mentioning that Stan's hero was Dan Leno, not George Robey. Stan and Robey were showbiz contemporaries, but Leno was the previous generation. Robey lived in Germany before starting his British stage career around the same time as Stan. He also said that Leno was his inspiration. One of Leno's comedy themes was the hard-boiled egg, which Stan worked up to better effect in several L & H movies.
