As you commented about pouring concrete floors all throughout the interior as a suggestion it might be an idea to uplift some of the floor panels to allow for electrical conduit,water lines,an waste water pipes etc,to the floor sections prior to setting up for your potential polished concrete floors yes!

This looks such an awesome and fascinating project! How strong are those interior 'walls', will they support more containers? Could you make them stronger by filling in concrete or something like that, in-between?
Thanks so much!! You could definitely go higher because I've seen buildings with the same setup go 5-6 levels. To increase the load limit the best way would probably be to increase the strength of the reinforcements.
Awesome channel! I'm getting ready to start one in far east Maine. So I guess welding the upper part of the frame is not needed? Just the floor and sides of the open space is welded? Also, I see you have some long metal I-beams in your construction. What was the longest length of I-beam you used? I need a 40 foot span of I-beam which is only supported vertically at its ends, and wondered if it would sag at all. Thanks, Scott.

I'd talk to an engineer for a 40ft span because that is huge and you'll need a very large beam. :)
Good work, seems tedious... I'd be looking for a faster way to weld and maybe the grinding of minor surface rust would be faster with a wire brush attachment rather than a disk, I don't know. I'd probably look for a weldable paint that I can just spray on to eliminate all the rust grinding... And I'd probably try to line up all the welding, maybe just tack the stuff on, and then hire a welder for a flat fee to do it all at once so I can try to avoid some fumes... Did you show how you connect each box to the other boxes? I'd probably stack all the boxes and do the cutting welding while the boxes are stacked while I lived inside, just what I'm thinking now, but I'll probably do a concrete block house, except I don't know how to to do a concrete roof of a block house yet. Thanks for watching!! There is usually a reason behind why we do what we do. For example we did all of the cutouts and reinforcements before we placed the containers because the structure is 30+ ft high so doing the work on the ground is much easier. :)
@@PacificPinesRanch I'd still do it from the inside out while living it... just my style, but I wouldn't try such a complicated design. I'd double check that nobody is below when I pushed out the cutouts. That's not an easy build you are doing at all with all the balconies and concrete and ibeams. At this point I'll probably just use a container to live in while a build a concrete block house, but like I said I need to learn how to do the roof/ceiling since I'm going for a bunker type structure. Can you help me unstand the reason you decided to use shiping containers for this project? I mean this genuinely. I work in civil engineering and build all sorts of things. Repair all kinds of things. But i am trying to wrap my head around why shipping containers in this type of build. In my head it seems more intuitive to just buy the steel and metal r pannel and not be stuck to a square box spending tons of labor on trying to retrofit something when you could save mony on the labor of building from scratch.
The cost is the main reason. The entire container cost between $2300-$2800. If we were to buy cor-ten steel tubing/panels etc, the overall price would be significantly higher. It ended up being way cheaper to buy containers and treat them as building blocks than it would have been if we bought all the steel by itself and built the house from scratch. We are doing all the labor ourselves. I'll be coming out with a cost video towards the end of the build so that will explain everything in better detail :)
Yeah, we hope your "retirement home" is complete for you to retire to....welding (which you seem to do exceedingly well!) and painting (you're going to love it!) seem to take decades......

Ill be doing a 5x40 ft container home soon, 1600 sq ft, 1 floor. No welding...will be using alternative means.
For one floor you should be fine. Once you add more than 1 levels it's important to connect everything well.
I think it is amazing how focused you are. I'm sure you have talked about it before but what metal are you using to weld the containers together?
