Prasar Bharati Archives presents Tribes of India series.
Gamit tribes are known as one of the major tribal communities of Gujarat and they are widely distributed in the mountainous terrains and also in some of the plains of Surat, Valsad, Dang and Bahruch districts.
The Gamit tribes are also popular as Vasava, Gamta, Gmit, Gavit, Mavchi, Pandvi etc. The etymological significance of the term Gamit signifies a villager. The language of the Gamit tribes is Konkani language.
Among them, the festival of colour, Holi is celebrated with lots of merry making and tribal songs and dance.
