In a video from about a year ago, I saw a Barefoot MicroMain 45, but those are more than what people are saying these are, so maybe that was also on loan?

Just replaced Rocket 8's from 2004 with the FP03. Huge improvement in detail and clarity. Check out the interview of the designer/founder, Thomas Barefoot, with Mitch at Sweetwater.

Inspiring watch Pete! I just bought an SE Electronics V1 voodoo ribbon. Of course inspired by your video from many years ago. You always get great tones. Sorry to see the Adams A7's finally dissapear from your desk. I'm still using mine. Still great for getting the midrange just right. I use Nuemann Ndh 30's to mix low end.

Hey Pete- I think I learned about Barefoot from you when you had the MicroMains with your Adams years ago. I think it was because of you that I bought a pair of Barefoot Footprint 01s something like 4 or 5 years ago. They are a bit bigger than your 03s but they sound amazing! Thanks!

I think you're gonna love them. I came from Adam as well. A7's in my main studio.. Still using a pair of Adam's- same ones you have, in my home studio and I think they are good speakers. But I think you're gonna find this is another level.

I've been thinking of replacing my near field monitors. I've been using them for at least 20 years or more. Since I have substantial hearing loss (mostly in the high frequencies) getting an improvement would be great.

I don’t own a pair of these, but from reviews I’ve seen and read, people LOVE them… but several people have had an issue with white noise after a while with these monitors… and they’ve had to return them. Fingers crossed that isn’t the case with yours, Pete.

How do these compare to Adam S range?
Also have to tried Barefaced (uk company) amps and cabs yet? Loud, light and some clever internal designs for gigging guitarists and bassists.

Pete, curious if you're using any corrective EQ to combat room acoustics. If so, what's your setup there? Do you find that you don't really need that for your control room?

I’m happy with my Dynaudio. I know them very well. Had them for…a couple decades.
My (not extensive) knowledge about Barefoot tells me they’re unquestionably better than the ones I’m using. A couple other things need to happen, before I make the investment.

Well they seem nice, the aluminium cones translate the transients very well I suppose, I had a 4x10 bass cabinet with aluminium cones and later bought a 4x10 Eden cabinet which sounded much warmer, which is maybe rounder in tone. Since I started mixing frequencies say alot more now, I'm on KRK V6's they are incredible there is only a V8 version that is for rooms that are bigger, but I don't really need a sub, every bellow 50 hz is realy sub , those are frequencies that you might want to kind of hear when you mix EDM....Alot of kick and bass notes are between 60-90 hz that's when many EQ's especially the older ones have fixed frequency bands. You new set might be a bit quicker an catch those transients, I could proof useful for you drums and you pick attack which becomes very noticable Pete, especially when recorded digitally.

Hey Pete -- I've been contemplating buying a pair of these for about 6 months. I currently mix on a pair of Kali Audio IN-8 V2s that I've had for close to 3 yrs. I know them well at this point and have gotten satisfying results so reluctant to make the change. I know you had a set of Adam A7s and a set of Barefoot MM45s in your studio prior. Were the A7s your go to for mixing? The MM45s are pricier than the 03s, but, that doesn't mean better. Anyway -- thanks for the info!

    • @PeteThorn
      @PeteThorn  13 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

I still have the 45s, which are a midfield really - I need to try and configure my desk a little differently, so everything fits! Because these new footprint 3 are a little bigger than what I was using before for nearfields. So I might have to pull my desk forward a little bit and move stands around and stuff because right now, I don't think the 45s will fit back there with the new nearfield speakers. And I'm mixing on near field most of the time. Sorry for the confusion, I hope that explains it.

@@PeteThorn Thanks for those details, Pete. Makes sense and man, that back and forth with the adjustments you just never know until you know when they're in the right spot. Long time watcher and have also wondered about the wall of amp heads and how that's affecting things. Your songs around whatever you're testing though sound awesome. Appreciate you, Pete!

  • @flyingstratosurfer6285

After all theses years I still wonder what a "true" speaker is. There are hundreds, if not thousands of companies building speakers from 100 to 100,000 bucks. And I still don´t understand the difference between "studio" monitors and high end consumer speaker. I assume that the listener in his private premises should hear the same as it is mixed in the studio. If there was something like a "true" speaker, you would only need these and there would be no need to build so many different variations of speakers. It seems to me a bit like the Gibson PAF reissues - every year the following release is more "authentic" than the former ones. But there is, as we all know, nothing like the "authentic" PAF because the wiring of the earlxy ones varies so much from piece to piece.

I saw it mentioned already, but it's confusing that you replaced your micromain45's with these when they are 2k vs 7k. You appear to have downgraded. for those of us that are familiar with your past setup. I can't imagine that you replaced youre Adams for a second pair of Barefoots. Defintely confusing...I'm sure they're great though.

Absolutely but, like I said, I would've just sent them back and kept using my old speakers if I couldn't hear better on these. It's too important to me to be able to record and mix well. Like, think about it for a second - absolutely everything I do goes through these. You see me use different guitars, different amplifiers different pedals. Everything is coming through these. It's the most used piece of gear in my studio besides the lights.
