This is the first comment I've typed on a video in years, but I just couldn't help myself - SO GLAD I FOUND ALEXA AND THIS CHANNEL, especially since I have an oral exam tomorrow! J'ai eu des difficultes avec la grammaire française pendant des longues années, mais maintenant toutes les chose sont claires! Merci à vous, Learn French With Alexa, vous etes la meilleure!
Finally, I understand the link between past tense and future tense. In past tense the ending comes before the verb, just like the past, and in the future tense, it comes after the verb, just like the future. So all I have to learn is the ending, and I'm set. Brilliant!
ir verbs- the structure sooo clear! matching stems and endings across the board: passe compose endings with future, imparfait with conditionnel endings, future is infinitive plus passe compose associate verb endings, use nous present stem to get imparfait stem
This chanel and duoling, that's how I'm learning my French... its been 3 years now... I'm still only at 23 percent fluent. BUT I can read a lot of French now and thanks to the pencil trick Alexa showed us in another video I can roll my Rs off the back of my mouth. Elle est trés bein.
Great lesson Alex thank you. Where can i find the support guides to this lesson and group 1. I am a subscriber but i do not see the support guides on the lessons. I have brought all the lessons by the way. Thank you Jayne
A lógica por trás das relações entre os tempos verbais no francês é muito inteligente. Entre o passado composto e o futuro, e, especialmente, entre o condicional, o futuro e o passado imperfeito. Uma vez que se entende a lógica, ela se torna especialmente intuitiva (ao menos do ponto de vista do falante do português-br).
I think there was a little overlooked on the stem when you explaining the conjugation of finir into imparfait tense. The stem was taken from présent was only highlighted five letters FINIS instead of taking them as FINISS and to be added with those ais, ait, ions, iez, aient. Minute 5.36. Please correct me if am wrong and you are the expert, could be I the one misunderstood the concept of taking the stems of the verbs.
To me, je finirai sounds exactly the same as je finirais. Is there a difference? If so, how is it possible to differentiate the two in conversational French?
Eventhough French's Tenses Felt easier at first Glance. Still, in its Simplicity there is Difficulty to Relate with their Expression. 🥲 I'm 🇮🇳Indian, a Native Hindi Speaker.
I understand because even French people often make the confusion. Basically, you need to know the conjugation of the verb you want to know because if the ending is "issons" for "nous", it's a 2nd group verb otherwise it's a 3rd group but unless you're fluent in French or you know verb conjugation perfectly, it would be hard for you to know ^^ For exemple, the verb "finir" is a 2nd group because we say "finissions" but "venir" is 3rd group because it's not "venissons" but "viendrons" :)
Exactly, and in any language the irregular verbs are always going to be among the most commonly used. So...tenir, venir, mourir, etc. And tenir is the root of a bunch of other commonly used verbs too: soutenir, appartenir, etc. On the positive side, I just returned from a couple of weeks in France and the content on this channel was very useful!
Bonjour Alexa! I stumbled across this video as I was googling whether French people still use preterite tense. As I understand, preterite tense is an old fashioned narrative tense, and as your video doesn't mention it, I assume it doesn't get used today. Can you, or anyone else, clarify it for me please?

The ending comes before the verb, that sounds queer...

Je vous remercie. C'est si utile

Do you ever use etre as the auxillary for a regular or verb in the passe composer?
You are amazing.
Excellent

Hi Alexa, How do we write " I will be finishing/ walking" ? (Future Continuous)
Excellent videos. Curiously "It is finished" translates as "C'est fini" using etre rather than avoir auxiliary verb.

The hard part isn't how to form the tenses, it's remembering which -IR verbs go in Group 2 and which don't.
