I get why the carrot would be so uncomfortable for her. It's actually a very different flavor and texture, so it was a very big leap, but her trying and being proactive alongside the therapist was amazing even if it was a difficult experience. Healing is not always sunshine and rainbows, but when we put in the effort it really shows.

I have a similar but less extreme version of the fry girls disordered eating (I left a comment on the og video as well) so i really do relate to her fears and struggles with trying new foods. The different coloured fries may seem silly but truthfully taking a "safe" food and changing the flavor, colour, or texture slightly is actually a really good way to start with getting better. She over reacted a little after trying the carrot though (I'm not talking about her gagging) the whole point of therapy like that /is/ to push yourself, even if you gag or spit it out its still a small step closer to your goal.

I have issues with some foods (PTSD from an abusive relationship) and water. I almost physically CAN'T swallow water. It makes me gag. And I can't chew food for so long, or eat the same thing for too long. I take frequent breaks while eating. I've always been texture sensitive, but after it became worse. I understand "picky" and odd eaters because of this I guess? Obviously, we have to do what is ultimately healthy for us, but I understand completely where these feelings come from and what they like like.

23:00 The most I remember being grossed out about a vegetable was with fried okra and beet juice. With the okra it smelled funny and I remember by the time my parents got me to put it in my mouth, I held it in until I was just sick of it and I spit okra and saliva out like a volcano.😄😄😄
And a few years later with the beet juice, I forced myself to drink half of it and I felt so sick. My head was so cold. Not even my mom who drank barly green could stand it.

Pica scares me because I have a history of eating disorder but also I had like 3 months where I intensely craved eating like fine sandy dirt.
I could imagine craving chalk too. It’s hard to explain I think some people, like myself, are more prone to intrusive thoughts that take over your mind and can eventually take over your life.
You get into a cycle where your brain is uncontrollably focused on one thing and when pica it’s the texture of something. You can’t stop thinking about it, it’s similar to craving your bed when you’re tired all day. Or having an itch you can’t get rid of.

She has pica, like I do. Pica is an eating disorder where you crave non nutritional/ inedible items, such as was, paper, rocks, clay, metal, plastic, fabric, and yes, mattresses. It is hard to overcome, and while yes, it is weird, I think TLC really takes advantage of this struggle and turns it into "wow! This is stupid and crazy", making others who struggle with pica feel like they will be judged for telling others.

My family has been telling me to quite smoking for a few years now. They tell me i can get lung cancer and it'll be harder to breathe over time.. I've noticed a few changes in my breathing, i can no longer play the flue as well as i used to because i can't breathe, but even though i know its hurting me and i know that i may die earlier it doesn't bother me. My grandfather went blind after multiple years of smoking tobacco.. an addiction will never leave you unless you yourself want to change
