I was SO stoked to see that you guys chose this movie. My uncle is a retired Entomologist and specialized in research of the Goliath Birdeater. He was on the production crew for Arachnophobia and assisted with technical advice and the spider "wrangling." Trying to get spiders, especially in large numbers, to behave for a camera was a nightmare lol. Doing it without hurting them required some really neat tricks. None of them wanted anything to do with people or what was going on. Just keeping them from eating each other was hard enough lol.

This is one of the *BEST* reaction videos I have ever watched! This movie is so good and so overlooked, nobody watches it, and many have never even heard of it.
There's enough humor in it to give it a lighter feel, and a lot of the scares are immediately followed by laughter of laughing at oneself for being scared, but the horror is a real horror that people can relate to (spiders), not zombies or monsters or things you've never seen.

Then it felt like it was raining out, and started tickling all over. My dad turned on the large gas lantern really bright. To our horror, multitudes of spider nests had hatched above our heads, and it was raining baby spiders like a light drizzle. We were covered from head to toe of baby spiders crawling all over us. To this day, I still freeze when I see a spider, and the smaller they are, the more fearful I am. I suffer from arachnophobia, and this movie is the scariest one I have ever watched.

The part that usually freaked me out the most was the remains of the photographer once he reached the states. Granted the container was not sealed well at all, but in order for the spider to live that long in the crate it would have had to bite and liquefy parts of the man's body several times. So it's suggested that the guy looks this bad because the spider has been using some very nasty venom on him.

OK, an arachnophile here, the professor was trying to call the spider out of hiding. He was use to dealing with spiders and these didn’t act anything like normal spiders. Tarantulas can’t even fall over two feet without catastrophic, death causing damage. These spiders jumping ten is just a bit of movie magic done with mechanical prop spiders. I love this movie but can’t begin to count how unrealistic it actually is! The small spiders used in the film are harmless Avondale spiders from New Zealand. The spider wranglers protected and made sure none were harmed! Goodman had a hollowed out boot sole for stepping on the spider. The large mygalomorph spiders used for the general and queen were actually Goliath bird eating spiders, which are the largest tarantulas on earth! Some can attain a leg span of 10”! That’s as big as a dinner plate! Even at that size they have a relatively harmless bite and can be safely handled. I saw this when I was ten and it was what inspired me to save up a buy my first pet, a zebra knee tarantula! I’ve been fascinated ever since!

And I felt it zing me. It wasn't that painful though so I went back to sleep. In the morning, I could see the fang marks where the spider had bitten me. Over the following 3 to 4 weeks, a red circle grew out of the spider bite. It eventually faded and went away. I later saw the type of spider that had bitten me. It was about 3" in diameter.

I'm a very light sleeper, so I probably wouldn't even be asleep if I was in a weird place like that (I never sleep on camping trips). If I was somehow asleep for a few hours, I would jump out of my skin if something brushed past me (and in this movie, it'd probably get me bit).

You're a John Goodman fan, you should react to 'Fallen,' with him and Denzel Washington. It's also in keeping with the Halloween season.

Pretty sure I've got arachnophobia and after witnessing the death in bed scene, I honestly could not sleep properly without looking around my bed properly, and also wrapping in the covers for at least 1-2 years. Kingdom of the Spiders from 1977 was one of those few movies that was so terrifying you could NOT look away from!

Your reaction to this, like Jeff Daniels' performance, was all too relatable. Spiders are my eternal enemy, ecologically beneficial or not. I read somewhere that they did use real spiders for this - some type of harmless Australian spider, though I suspect Aussies play fast and loose with the word "harmless". Brought them in by the hundreds and herded them around with fans and stuff. So yeah. If I were an actor, I would've taken one look at this script and given a resounding "Hell to the no".

Come on humans! You are not afraid of us arachnids, your fear comes from a sutile red spider who walks around when you sleep naively across 4D.

Seeing TBR jumping and on the defensive the whole time was so funny. And Samantha just like "are you ok" giggling. I laughed a lot on this reaction.
Funny that I saw this movie in the cinemas back in the day and it didn't freak me out and I'm not the fan of spiders either. The movie is great, the way they mixed puppet spiders with real ones was really well done.
And now share my experience with a similar "spiders all over the place" like in the movie, although in this case it was just three.
When I was younger I used to go on vacations to my Grandmother's house in the north of Portugal. It's a two story house and usually we sleep in one of the rooms in the top floor, but that summer we slept in the bottom floor bed room, can't remember the reason why.
Well, one night we were just minding our business reading some books before going to sleep and notice a spider on the wall, coming behind the furniture, I mean... A big sucker for that part of world lol. It was the size of post-it note, hairy body, thick legs. My brother gets the Raid can and sprays it a bit. It doesn't die. He sprays some more, nope, still going. He sprays so much on it the spider was white and still running around, until we just smack her with a shoe.
Then we notice another one, same size, in another part of the room and when we were taking care of that one, we look at the ceiling a third one starts coming out, in a crack between the ceiling and the wall. I mean, at that point we were totally in Aracnophobia mode. We never catched the spider that was in the ceiling. We didn't slept much that night.

One thing that Arachnophobia does really well is it Blends comedy and fear so well. It also made the tarantula become a celebrity.

So in the beginning they weren't killing all the bugs in the trees, they were knocking them out to collect live specimens. The big general spider and the little one they saved weren't talking they were about to mate and produce hybrid spiders that are just as poisonous as it is. I don't know where you live, but this movie was filmed in the town of Cambria, California. A town we live near and vacation all the time. The making of this film is very interesting because they used all real spiders except for a few scenes of the King and Queen that were done with puppet spiders. All of the little spiders were done using super thin wires to direct where the spiders went or how they moved. I loved your reaction to this. Now the big question is, Does Samantha have to deal with the spiders in your house?

  • @snoopygonewilder
    @snoopygonewilder 2 ปีที่แล้ว

"Ahhh, it wasn't talking to the other spider, it was banging it..." possibly the best thing I've heard someone say in a reaction video. I'm not scared by spiders in general, but I'd also run if I saw a huge one or a bunch came at me.

If it makes you guys feel better, the sheriff gets his too. In a deleted scene, a spider snuck into his cop car and bites him on the back. That explains why he's not in the ending of the film.

Let me say this: Arachnophobia was a constant movie on tv here in Brazil in the 90s, and I have grown up watching it. I'm not afraid of spiders, but I have always checked inside my shoes since the first time I watched this, over 25 years ago. So yes, it's kind of a helpful movie for your life to say the least lol

Fun fact, the soldier spiders seen through most of the film were Avondale spiders and are a completely harmless species, they were used due to their intimidating size and were relatively easy to coax into doing what the filmmakers wanted them to do.

as a former south african biology student we were once in the bush (Wenen game reserve in northern KZN) studying insect populations.... i'll never forget the look on all the other students faces and the Professor when I stopped whilst walking through shrubs...i was holding a measuring stick and they all stared at me...cradled around my hand was a massive golden orb spider who clearly thought it was a great resting place... didn't get bitten...and just brushed it off... wakes you up though...haha

The scene where the professor flicks the web in the barn was a trick by the General. The professor was looking up into the loft above, and when he flicked the web, he thought the General would spun down, but the General tricked him by attacking him from the side, something the professor didn't see coming.
