Good morning I agree with what you’re teaching. It makes perfect sense I think throughout the years Christians try to teach me this but I took acts 2:38 literally. how you break it down makes excellent sense and I’ve learned this from Keith Mosier as well (his lesson on line). My question is when are we sealed with the Holy Spirit , are we sealed with the Holy Spirit at baptism? that’s why I can see the other school of thought also? Also, first John 5:8; it states that the water and the blood, and the Spirit agree as one on earth. I was taught that you find the parallel to this scripture in Acts2:38. I see both schools of thought regarding the Holy Spirit. As I’ve heard said it’s not worth splitting the church over. When we are baptized, we are translated out of darkness into the marvelous light of the kingdom of Christ. We are now in the presence of God, Christ and the Holy Spirit. This also takes place at baptism; for which I am so thankful to this day and for all eternity. Thank you, in advance. In Christ
@@RogerSanderson-c7j Acts 6:3 *Therefore brethren seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business* I'm not sure what your belief is on the gift of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2:38 but here we see men who are already said to be indwelled with the Holy Spirit. Later in the chapter, Acts 6:6 the apostles laid hands on men that were said to already have been full of the Holy Spirit. It is wrong to assume being full of the Holy Spirit is miraculous indwelling. This being full of the Spirit is just as I am full of the Spirit today. By the revelation of the Spirit His revealed word is how these men lived their lives according to His teaching. They showed the Spirit was in them by the fruit of the Spirit that they shown in their daily living. Their heart and lives were dominated by the Spirits teaching. But it could mean that they were endowed with supernatural powers from the Spirit. Now verse 6 the apostles laid hands on them, the CUSTOM was to lay hands on someone when they were appointed a important task or practise. Remember Christian's in Antioch laid hands on Paul when they were sent out to preach, Acts 13:3. What do you think?

Oops! Paul wanted to come to Rome to impart a gift to each of them, but at the time he wrote the book of Romans he had not visited there yet. However, in Romans 8 Paul is talking to them through his letter, about how we(believers) who walk after the Spirit and not after the flesh, and then again in vs 9 we're not in the flesh, but in the Spirit . And he tells these Christians in Rome that if any man, hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Ouch! Can't be talking about the Holy Spirit baptism as the aposltes had on Pentecost or even the laying on of hands given by the Apostles, becase PAul hasn't visited them yet to impart a spiritual gift. . So what is he talking about? THe Spirit beareth witness with our spirit that we are the children of God. I just think you are missing the obvious. Would love to hear an explanation how those in Rome were living by the Spirit, but they didn't have the Spirit(according) to your view of Acts 2:38.
Simon the Sorcerer in Acts 8 was saved yet never received any indwelling of the Holy Spirit unless you want to speculate and say he did. It's not in the text so why do as the sects do with scripture and insert something that is not found in Scripture? Acts 2:38-39 is the gift of salvation given by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not the gift. The Holy Spirit is the gift giver.
@@bellcoolmountain6650 At some point we have to have the Holy Spirit in us or we are as Paul says we are not of CHrist. I'm arguing for the (indwelling) coming to live in us, at the completion of our baptism into CHrist. In the OT the temple was built and cleansed by blood, for what purpose? As a place sanctified where he Holy Spirit could come down and dwell in. God's presence there. That didn't mean that miraculous visual manifestations happened there regularly. But they definitely believed by faith God's presence was there. THe same thing happens immediately upon our baptism into Christ. THe Sprit comes to indwell us. Don't you know that you are a temple of God and that the Holy Spirit dwells in you?
@@montyeason3973 I have the Holy Spirit indewlling me through an agency. Don Blackwell also agrees with me that no one today is Holy Spirit baptized. Holy Spirit baptism has nothing to do with salvation. Simon the Sorcerer in Acts 8 proves this as sound Biblical new testament gospel.

Frankly, I will rebutt this video and its claim by Don Blackwell that the common baptism the 3000 received (and also inferred all other water baptisms in the 1st century church) included the same powers of the HS the apostles received when they were baptized with the HS ("...And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. [3] And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them...." Acts 2:2&3). It's the first time I have heard this ideological summary of the HS by any member of the brotherhood EVER! It's very sad to me that this kind of teaching is coming from Don Blackwell and GBN!

This is an incorrect line of reasoning from brother Don and others, ive heard this, ive read this for years, but the scriptures provides the truth in the matter if you honestly apply the same logical reasoning to all the scriptures to deduce the sound conclusion. We must be rational and include all relevant scripture. Romans 1:11 apostle Paul desired to impart spiritual gifts on the roman Christians in order to establish them. But the roman Christians was told that the Spirit of God dwelt inside of them regardless. (Rom 8:11 present tense indicative greek verb) The simple fact that Romans 8:9-27 affirms that unmiraculous Christians have the helping of the Holy Spirit in providential ways, this qualifies as a gift. A gift is what is given to you by another. The Holy Spirit helps us (Rom 8:26-27), thus giving us a gift of help, and since no non-Christian has that given gift from the Holy Spirit, then all Christians do in fact have a gift of the Holy Spirit then in 1st century and now. Unless brother Don and others claim no Christian today has the help of the Holy Spirit as described in Romans 8:26-27, which would be very difficult to claim, then one must affirm that any help at all from the Holy Spirit does qualify as a gift in general. Even the smallest providential helping qualifies as such. It would be absurd to claim such a preposterous position that no Christian today receives any providential helping of the Spirit of God in any way whatsoever. If intercession of the H.S. on behalf of the saints is exclusive to saints only, then Acts 2:38-39 must be interpreted as a generalized/universal gift of the Spirit according to scripture. It is unsettling, disturbing to have brothers who publicly teach truth with the proper logical reasoning on subjects such as baptism and repentance, drinking and fornication, but then turn around and fail to apply the same level of sincerity to this subject.
I've been kind of searching for the question, is Acts 2:38 the baptism mentioned there water Baptistism, I see no mention of water, Jesus had just told them that he will baptize with Holy Ghost. What's your thoughts on that?
@@samuelcleland3478 the baptism of H.S. was never promised to everyone. If we still have supernatural spiritual influence, then we are to try those spirits against the scripture. If we don't, I still need the scripture. Whether there is an indwelling or not, I need the scripture first and I don't see how I'd end up on judgement day in a bad spot because I never gave that idea much weight. Whatever your conviction on the matter, you should be very wary whether the events and feelings that seem to be from the Spirit which lead you to a decision or action. Remember the path of the old prophet in 1 Kn 13. What other people tell you, what your internal voice tells you, all of that is secondary to the plain words that you've received from God.
@@bryannorris8049 yes, you make a serious point for all to recognize. I agree completely. God doesn't let us rely on feelings but on scriptural reasoning.
The Holy Spirit’s help in Romans 8 is by the “law of the Spirit “ (v. 2), and “the things of the Spirit “ (v. 5). The child of God is “led by the Spirit” (v. 14) by the written word. It is not by any operational means beyond the inspired word of God in Scripture (2 Timothy 3: 16, 17). Yes, on the intercession of the Spirit in Romans 8:26, 27.
Here is some questions. Does the work of the Holy Spirit in the new testament include miracles? We must say yes confirming the Word Mark 16:20. Has miracles ceased? Again yes we have the confirmed Word 1 Cor 13 & Eph 4:12-15. Then WHY do we think strange that verses in reference to the Holy Spirit do not apply directly to us today? Don made reference to mark 16:16-18. It should be easy for us as christians to rightfully divide the first part of those three verses for the last part just as in the case of Acts 2:38. Here is the issue brethren and always has been. Is the Word of God all sufficient? We can debate the how but where brethren on both sides of this issue have always been is THE WORD OF GOD IS ALL SUFFICIENT. I think we the church are moving. Some of my favorite teachers and preachers were Johnny Ramsey, Gus Nichols and Thomas Warren believed the gift of the Spirit was the Spirit as a gift and good brethren like Guy Woods , Alan Highers and Franklin Camp believed it was miraculous (which i agree with now though i did not 15 years ago). But ALL of them believed the Word of God is ALL sufficient in conversion and sanctification of the soul. Now we have many in the church and most of the guys coming out of "preaching schools" that will not affirm that. Guy Woods warned that though the first generation believe the literal personal indwelling of the Holy Spirit my not be carried away into an erroneous and damnable doctrine. What will the second and third do that believe in a literal indwelling? I believe we are seeing it for ourselves. This is a extremely important study for the church thank you Don.

@@philarevolutionarywarriorp8295 Hello, I don't believe brother Blackwell is intentionally lying. I believe he sincerely believes what he taught but Paul was sincere and wrong. As far as false teaching, I know a sincere honest man can be a false teacher. If you teach error you are teaching false doctrine. That is inescapable fact. Therefore since Don has taught error on the gift of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2:38-39, he is on this subject a false teacher. I've heard brethren say you can only label a false teacher as someone who intentionally knows they are teaching error to deceive others. That is erroneous.

I’m afraid you do not know the biblical narrative. The giving of the Spirit was not just for producing the Bible. Acts 1-2 tells you what they preached and they inherited the first testament. Unless you understand the sanctifying work of the Spirit, you will never understand this doctrine.
Hello brother. Love your lessons. So pleased you are back in the saddle teaching. Thank you very much for this lesson. I wanted to let you know that I have MD and I have gotten myself a lap table off Amazon, by Sophia I think. It is wonderful for putting in my lap and my lap top fits great. It doesn't slide and plenty of room for writing as well. I also have one at the church building in my pew for my bible and writing utensils. It holds my song book as well. It is wonderful. I don't always have to sit at a desk or table to work. It is like a bean bag on the bottom and the table on top. I hope it helps.
As far as Acts 8 I think it s important to remember that Acts is a narrative book. When it says the Holy Spirit had fallen on none of them, it could just mean that they didn’t know they had the Holy Spirit. Up to that point they would’ve only known about the Spirit being audible, visible, and miraculous. It’s possible they had the Spirit to seal them for redemption (Ephesians 4:30) and bear witness with their spirit that they were children of God (Romans 8:16).. but didn’t have the miraculous gifts until the apostles laid hands. Nobody would’ve known if they received the Spirit or not at that time if it wasn’t audible and visible. Scripture is progressive revelation and more about how the Spirit indwells in all believers and the purpose post-cannon had yet to be revealed. I think that’s also why the Spirit had to fall on the gentiles in an audible miraculous way since that’s the only way Peter and the disciples with him would’ve known they received the Spirit. Also because they were gentiles, Peter likely wasn’t going to lay his hands on them for them to receive the Spirit, but God showed he was in control of who receives the spirit. “The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” John 3:8
The CoC does not believe that the Holy Spirit literally dwells within a Christian. They teach that the Bible is sufficient. They are considered a Restoration Cult like the Mormons, JWs. 7thDayAdv., etc. who formed at the same time. I was raised in this Cult and the brainwashing is extreme!
Is the baptism mentioned in Acts 2:38 water baptism? If so where's the water? Jesus just got done saying he will baptize with the Holy Ghost, why does everyone assume Acts 2:38 is referring to water baptism?
@@samuelcleland3478 well when you look at Acts 8:36-39 and Acts 10::47-48 it’s clear that water was used and it’s clear it was by immersion. We should assume they were continuing the pattern from Acts 2 when they are sharing the gospel so Acts 2 would’ve also involved water. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe water baptism is what saves us, but I think it’s clear that it was practiced by the early church. I believe the baptism that saves us is the baptism of the Holy Spirit since the baptism that saves us is something God does which is a circumcision without human hands per Colossians 2. And it’s by one Spirit we are baptized into Christ per 1 Corinthians 12:13. And it’s the Holy Spirit that seals us for the day of redemption (Ephesians 4:30) and testifies with our Spirit that we are children of God (Romans 8:16). Its the mark that we are saved since anyone who doesn’t have be spirit of God doesn’t belong to Christ (Romans 8:9). Justification before God is also apart from our works per Romans 4. BUT water baptism is clearly the pattern if we follow the pattern of the early church in Acts.
index) 1. @12:00 Don said, “imagine if the Apostles laid their on them”…he said this because of Acts 8, only Apostles got power without laying on hands (@21:00 he confirms this). Did the Apostles do this ‘imagination’? 2. @16:10 he defines gifts as miraculous. Gifts must be defined each time 3. @22:15 he defines gifts as miracles in Acts 10.. they’re not…it’s only tongues which is one miraculous gift not plural. Did they have healing or miraculous knowledge too? If so, I didn’t read that 4. Also…there is no evidence that anyone outside of the Apostle had miraculous gifts before Acts 6 (Acts 4:33; 5:12; 6:3,8,10) 5. He never address ‘gar’ (for…assigning a reason to). Read Acts 10:45-46 & Acts 2:38-39. Look for ‘FOR’. In 10 it’s tongues, in 2 it’s promise 6. What is the promise for all who ‘repent and be baptized’? But brother Don did not repeat what Peter said!!!! Peter said the promise of the gift of the Holy Spirit is to ALL who are afar off. Now are you going to say it is not to all as Don Blackwell did? The gift of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2:38-39 is the spiritual gift of salvation, Romans 6:23 *for the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life* It is pure speculation to claim all the 3000 Jews on pentecost had the apostles lay hands on them. Not good Bible exegesis.

BUt seeing how PAul was the Apostle to the Gentiles , he would have been very busy in order to pass an administrative or speaking gift on to but a small percentage of a church that was blowing up in size. WHen does God give us this new heart(see Col.2:11-13.) and put his Spirit in us(we are made alive by the Spirit) when we believe in Jesus and respond in Baptism for the remission of sins. We are born of the Spirit. Unless a man is born of the water and the "Spirit" he cannot see the kingdom of heaven. When are we born of water and the Spirit? In baptism. THis fits perfectly with Acts 2:38. Paul asked the Galatians Received ye the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by the hearing of faith? Is this not, by believing the Gospel and being baptized that they received the Spirit? Sure it is! For ye are all children of God by faith for as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on CHrist. Are you literally in Chirst or is that an agent? Have you literally put on Christ as one does a garment or is that by agent or some metaphor? Was Christ literally in the Father or just a figure of speech. Is Jesus one with the Father or just a figure of speech? If Christ was literally one with the Father then why can't he be literally one with us? There are some things we just accept by faith even if we can't use our 5 senses or fully comprehend it all, don't you think? Can you literally feel the word of Christ in you? What part of your body do you feel it in? How much of the word exactly is in you? Cany ou measure it? Whatever you say about the word I can equally say about the Spirit. THe Spirit does what God through Ezekiel promised he would do. All we have to do is believe it.

Also, first John 5:8; it states that the water and the blood, and the Spirit agree as one on earth. I was taught that you find the parallel to this scripture in Acts2:38.

So, when I do a rebuttal I want it to be complete which means it will be involved and require many Bible references and exegesis.
It is coming...

(Rom 8:11 present tense indicative greek verb)
The simple fact that Romans 8:9-27 affirms that unmiraculous Christians have the helping of the Holy Spirit in providential ways, this qualifies as a gift. A gift is what is given to you by another. The Holy Spirit helps us (Rom 8:26-27), thus giving us a gift of help, and since no non-Christian has that given gift from the Holy Spirit, then all Christians do in fact have a gift of the Holy Spirit then in 1st century and now.
Unless brother Don and others claim no Christian today has the help of the Holy Spirit as described in Romans 8:26-27, which would be very difficult to claim,
then one must affirm that any help at all from the Holy Spirit does qualify as a gift in general.
Rom.8:9-11 If you do not have the indwelling Spirit you are NOT God's child!!! PERIOD!!!

I liked your post, and I have followed Don for a long time and this is the first time I can remember seeing him being so far off the beaten path (and I truly do mean "beaten path!") and I do find it very very disheartening! I must say that whatever Don gets from this teaching is his own fault as he is a teacher and we are told to sharply rebuke false teachers! Frankly, I am in a state of dismay! It really seems like the church is coming apart at the seams! 😢
“The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.”
John 3:8

2. @16:10 he defines gifts as miraculous. Gifts must be defined each time
3. @22:15 he defines gifts as miracles in Acts 10.. they’re not…it’s only tongues which is one miraculous gift not plural. Did they have healing or miraculous knowledge too? If so, I didn’t read that
4. Also…there is no evidence that anyone outside of the Apostle had miraculous gifts before Acts 6 (Acts 4:33; 5:12; 6:3,8,10)
5. He never address ‘gar’ (for…assigning a reason to). Read Acts 10:45-46 & Acts 2:38-39. Look for ‘FOR’. In 10 it’s tongues, in 2 it’s promise

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep mine ordinances, and do them.- THis is exactly what Paul was talking about in Romans 8. He's not talking about an agency, but a person. Not the miraculous powers the Apostles had, or even the laying on of hands that some had if they managed to ever run across an Apostle.
