To me, their approaches to a performance are opposite to each other. They are each at the top of their respective classes, but are not comparable. P.S. To me, her voice (shockingly unique), is just the tip of the iceberg. I’ve never seen another performer that crushes virtually every mode of expression like she does. What I like most about Diana is how she overcame a rather tough start to life. Her birth mother was physically abusive and finally abandoned her in the street, in the middle of winter, at the age of 3. She ended up in an orphanage and would eventually suffer from nightmares, a nervous breakdown, and lingering speech problems. Her adoptive mother started Diana on singing lessons as one method of hopefully improving her verbal abilities. Despite all that she is now, by all accounts, a remarkably intelligent, poised, and humble young lady. To me, she is bravery, perseverance, and soul power personified. I get emotional just watching her, knowing how far she has come, never mind the otherworldly voice. By far, my favorite singer in the world. And yeah, her tessitura is crazy for a contralto but it’s that thunderous, rich, dark, resonant timbre that stands out for me. She’s a witch, enchantress, siren, sorceress... they all apply. I wish her all the best in this world. Diana is utterly unique. The stage presence, the range, the emotive ability, the tiny perfectly rhythmic swaying body movements, the witchy vocalizations, the overall shamanistic earth mother vibe, the haunting overtones, and that cavernous, haunting contralto. The gentleman who stood up is the well known Azerbaijani opera singer Yusif Eyvanov. He happens to be married to the world class Russian soprano Anna Netrebko. Together they are opera royalty. Presumably, he would not be easy to impress. Both he and other members of the jury remarked at the amount of pure energy Diana was emitting. Yusif said he’s never felt anything like it in his life.

This is a singing show where 9 professional Russian singers all sing a song each week from different categories (pop, russian folk, etc)....so the judges are her competitors, and are all seasoned singers. Each week they rotated the categories (9 weeks). Diana was 18 years old here, she is 19 or 20 now. You should watch some of her earlier videos, Rechenka at 14 on a show for kids who had a rough early life, mostly orphans. Diana was abandoned on the street by her mother, with a broken collar bone. At the orphanage she could not speak, but a massage therapist took her in and eventually adopted her. She started voice lessons very young just to teach her to speak. Quite the talent that unlocked, but only God could give her that polyphonic contralto voice. (Contralto is like a low bass woman voice type). Polyphonic means she can sing or resonate two notes simultaneously. Like a self autotune). Human and Wicked Games are two other great English covers. Diana, AKA "The Queen of Goosebumps", is famous for her ability to transport the audience to other worlds.
I think that Diana and Dimash are completely different. To me, their approaches to a performance are opposite to each other. They are each at the top of their respective classes, but are not comparable.

To me, her voice (shockingly unique), is just the tip of the iceberg. I’ve never seen another performer that crushes virtually every mode of expression like she does. What I like most about Diana is how she overcame a rather tough start to life. Her birth mother was physically abusive and finally abandoned her in the street, in the middle of winter, at the age of 3. She ended up in an orphanage and would eventually suffer from nightmares, a nervous breakdown, and lingering speech problems. Her adoptive mother started Diana on singing lessons as one method of hopefully improving her verbal abilities.
Despite all that she is now, by all accounts, a remarkably intelligent, poised, and humble young lady. To me, she is bravery, perseverance, and soul power personified. I get emotional just watching her, knowing how far she has come, never mind the otherworldly voice. By far, my favorite singer in the world. And yeah, her tessitura is crazy for a contralto but it’s that thunderous, rich, dark, resonant timbre that stands out for me. She’s a witch, enchantress, siren, sorceress... they all apply. I wish her all the best in this world.
Diana is utterly unique. The stage presence, the range, the emotive ability, the tiny perfectly rhythmic swaying body movements, the witchy vocalizations, the overall shamanistic earth mother vibe, the haunting overtones, and that cavernous, haunting contralto.
The gentleman who stood up is the well known Azerbaijani opera singer Yusif Eyvanov. He happens to be married to the world class Russian soprano Anna Netrebko. Together they are opera royalty. Presumably, he would not be easy to impress. Both he and other members of the jury remarked at the amount of pure energy Diana was emitting. Yusif said he’s never felt anything like it in his life.

At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment.
Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. By the age of 10 she was winning local competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started showing up on TH-cam. A year and a half ago, at the age of 18, her first performance during a new Russian television competition with several other renowned performers, has gone viral and has garnered hundreds of TH-cam 'reaction' videos, and millions of viewers.
Her first song at the competition, an entirely new take on Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love with You' has been called mesmerizing, transcendental and other-worldly...it highlights her uniquely deep voice, and effortless range from low to high, along with her trademark dramatic and passionate interpretation. You picked the edited video to cut off the comments of the judges......the long version shows the judges in shock and awe, and giving her mad props. This is a singing show where 9 professional Russian singers all sing a song each week from different categories (pop, russian folk, etc)....so the judges are her competitors, and are all seasoned singers. Each week they rotated the categories (9 weeks). Diana was 18 years old here, she is 19 or 20 now. You should watch some of her earlier videos, Rechenka at 14 on a show for kids who had a rough early life, mostly orphans. Diana was abandoned on the street by her mother, with a broken collar bone. At the orphanage she could not speak, but a massage therapist took her in and eventually adopted her. They noticed her singing to cartoons, and used that as a form of therapy to help her talk.....and well the rest is history. It is her unusual tone, her abilty to have amazing higher and lower harmonics in her voice that gives you the goosebumps, she is called the Queen of Goosebumps and that is not just fan boy talk. She has a once in multigenerational voice. Even more impressive is how she was able to triumphantly rise above her abused and abandoned by her birth mother youth by great love from her adoptive mother. She started voice lessons very young just to teach her to speak. Quite the talent that unlocked, but only God could give her that polyphonic contralto voice. (Contralto is like a low bass woman voice type). Polyphonic means she can sing or resonate two notes simultaneously. Like a self autotune).

The full video is on her channel and does not cut off at the end and also has judge commentary (and you'll find out how to pronounce her name). I'd also recommend the Crow, a performance from the same show by Diana. And also Rechenka four years earlier when she was 14. But there are plenty of other songs she's done so you are in for a journey!
