This youtubers crossover are getting AWESOME. Thanks yo share your knowledge with other RPG youtubers.
Persona 5 Royal: The Phantom Thieves stole the show when this game got ported to the Switch. It's my first Persona game and it'll always have a place in my heart. Trails to Azure: I was debating on whether to include this one or Cold Steel 4, but ultimately, I chose this one, because Cold Steel 4 started on the PlayStation 4, but the port to Azure with the Geofront Translation won in the end, because it was released on the Switch from the get-go when it got announced, Sea of Stars: A fun indie title with the inspiration from Chrono Trigger proudly being worn on its sleeve Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE: I know about the censorship, and that is unfortunate, but the game itself was very fun to play, the characters are likable, if a bit simplistic, and the songs are a joy to listen to, especially towards the end. Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance: While the extra content behind DLC is still an annoyance, I'm glad I got it for the Switch. The new content is nice to digest, and the battle system still delivers what was promised.
Great video, you are both so good at describing these games and highlighting their best features. Just in time for the current Nintendo Eshop sales 💸💸💸.
Switch, Steam and PS have been my primary go to for jrpgs for years and I gotta say it's great playing them were ever on switch especially persona 3 to 5
That's a solid list! I played and enjoy all of them 🥰 To turn based lovers i'd recommend Fuga melodie of steel 1 and 2. To monster catching fans i'd say "monster sanctuary" i had such a blast with it. Every monsters have a skill tree and all are usable. It's so fun make synergize teams.
This video made me to go Amazon and see that Monster Hunter Stories 1 & 2 bundle was on sale for $39! I grabbed it, hope I enjoy it....cheers David and your guest Miss Bubbles!
Great picks from both of you for Turn Based JRPGs especially Atelier Marie and Octopath 2. (Similar comment I said for the action RPGs, but hey it's a two-fer, regardless )😅
Persona 5 and FF10. Persona is so smooth like butter with its gameplay loop and FF10 just has a lot going for it to make it's turn based gameplay interactive.

Monster Hunter Stories is honestly a fantastic series, I have tried multiple times to get into the mainline games but I always fail, Stories though is just perfect
This is a very tasteful list and I loved seeing that Miss Bubbles was able to enjoy SMT V: Vengeance. The accessibility options are bringing more people into SMT who might have otherwise avoided it due to the notorious difficulty of the series. Even though I'm the kind of gamer who likes to play SMT V: Vengeance on godborn hard mode, I'm glad there are people who are able to enjoy the game playing on the safety difficulty. This will help the sales numbers of SMT games and build up a bigger fanbase that will encourage Atlus to make more of them. Those who act as gatekeepers around this series only end up harming it because turning people away has a negative financial impact on Atlus. As a die-hard SMT fan, I love seeing the series becoming a bigger phenomenon because it will mean that more SMT is coming in the future and I would like to see it continue to be alive and thriving.
Oh, no Rise of the Third power? Its very fun i still have not beat it but i love all characters have a skill points you can customize and characters use items to craft new weapons to make them stronger plus some weapons will be better in posioning or you have have a bleed build on a character. The writing is pretty funny& like sassy in parts of the story. The battles are not random but like dark souls if you save at a save point monsters respawn.
I think Live A Live, Star Ocean 2 and SaGa Frontier was more deserving than Legends Arceus. But opinions won’t be the same for different people. Love the video guys!!! ❤
This was a great video, and while I'm sad that my personal fave of Live A Live didn't make it to the top 10, I can't fault anything here. This is a great list of recommendations!
Okay, bet. As an RPG enthusiast myself, let's see what you guys picked: The Alliance Alive- YES, YES, AND TRIPLE YES!! Loved this game so much and I'm glad I gave it a chance even after being letdown by the dev's previous game, Legend of Legacy. Off to a great start! Though I played the 3DS version and didn't bother to double dip for the Switch remake. Heck, I still have the 3DS card of the original! Monster Hunter Stories- Another YES. Played the original and the sequel. Never got into the Monster Hunter franchise, but these games appealed to me more! Dragon Quest 11- Another banger of an RPG! Enough said. Octopath Traveler 2: Like The Alliance Alive, I gave this game a chance after being let down by the previous game (and its horrid endgame) and I am thankful I did. A shining improvement indeed! Bravely Default 2: 👏👏👏 Shin Megami Tensei V: I'll admit, while I did enjoy the original game in spite of its faults (and even 100% it, including fighting the game's superboss and getting all the endings), I've been on the fence about actually getting Vengeance, and I still am....
I'm such a huge Atelier fan, lol. All of the games on the Switch are 10/10 imo. My personal favorite is Firis. I love the open world and all the cute outfits you make for Firis.
Alliance Alive is the only one I haven't tried on the list, so I think its time to finally give it a go! Also have to give a shout out to Etrian Odyssey and the Labyrinth games. (Refrain / Galleria) Easily my two favorite turn based RPG series on the system!
For those who love JRPG and want to know the roots of Octopath Traveler, try Romancing SaGa 2 & 3, and SaGa Frontier. They're games that need to be played if you're a big fan of the genre. But, warning! We're talking about hard and very replayable games.
The sequels were recommended, but I can also wholeheartedly recommend Both Monster Hunter Stories games, you can get both together for the price of Stories 2. I haven't played them, but I've also been eyeing Octopath 1 and 2, it's cheaper than buying them separately.
Atelier Ryza is actually my favorite in the series ❤ ( unfortunately I have not played 3 yet as I’m still playing through the second game) atelier Sophie 2 was actually a very pleasant surprise to play. Have never been a Pokémon fan at all👻 however after trying Arceus out I was quite happy with it, though it will probably be the only game in the series I ever play. Just picked up a copy of bravely default 2 am looking forward to playing through it SMT vengeance was a delightful surprise for me honestly, I played some of the original game however I never made it through it as I found it to be really boring. Vengeance I had trouble putting down 😂 I played on the switch and only experienced a few very minor bugs and glitch’s nothing that hindered my game play however Loved the video thanks so much
Personally i like the Dusk series of Atelier games, after the shit show that was the Arland games that almost made me drop the series completely, the Dusk games brought me back. It still had deadlines but you weren.t punished hard for it. In Ayesha for instance, if you game over you can just go into NG+ and just start with the setup you had. It lets you skip cut scenes, all the important items and scenes are in the same place so honestly takes very little time to get back to where you were. In E&L, you just had to do the base missions to move forward with the bonus missions being the ones with the hard time crunch, they were worth trying to go for though. If you don't like deadlines period then the Mysterious games (Sophie, etc) that were more feel good and ofc the Ryza (or secret series) games that were more about exploration. Highly recommend any if you like collecting and crafting as a requirement.
I'd add in the Fuga Melodies of Steel series. After a decade of CyberConnect2 being typecast as an anime fighting game developer they're finally back to making original games and they started with a return to the series that was started by their first ever game Little Tail Bronx. They also came out punching with this one as it's a really well polished on rails turn based RPG. With a cast of 12 kids they need to pilot the giant tank the Taranis in order to save their families from the Berman empire in this WWII inspired story. But will you be able to make it to the end without sacrificing any of the kids to the soul canon. Also if you're a fan of CC2's .hack series there's some not so subtle .hack like references throughout these games as well. Heck they recently revealed a character for the upcoming 3rd game that looks a lot like a character from .hack//SIGN, so that's got me pretty hyped up for the final entry in this series which will be apparently twice as long as the first 2 games. It's making me hopeful they can return to the .hack series sometime after they wrap Fuga up.
David, I just had an idea. What if there was a dragon quest monsters game that was a spin off of DQ8 where you were Morrie the monster hunter and you went through the world as a prequel to dragon quest 8. you could meet the Dragovian on top of the waterfall cave, Younger munchie, Alistair Jessica's brother, and meet the sage who was training dhaulmagus. Maybe see how Maurie builds his arena. Could be cool. Add that to the wish list. Haha lots of people might read this so let's hype this completely made up idea? (sorry I spelled the names wrong)
Ooo, that's a lovely collab video! 😊❤ Well done! Somenof my Turn based RPGs include : Persona 4 Golden Undertale World of Final Fantasy Child of Light Pokémon Sapphire Wish you success and happiness always ✨️ 🌻🪷🩵
Could throw Tokyo Mirage Sessions on here too - for those looking for a Persona-like experience that’s nowhere near as long, it’s got all the SMT/Persona aspects you like in it - without the fluff
I love turn-based games...real-time action RPGs stress me out and give me anxiety. Also...what was that subtle screechy noise in the background of the video? I thought it was my PC's hard drive failing for a moment.
Wow, David, I didn't even realize Bravely Default 2 borrows heavily from FF5, one of my favorite jrpgs. Still. Bravely Default 2 is much better than the 1st game just based on it's story alone.
Kinda disappointed that both remakes of Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door weren't on the list. To me, they are the best representative into turned-based RPG on the Switch. Not to say the others weren't. But in terms of getting into these stuff on an easy side, Super Mario RPG and Thousand Year Door remake is perfect.
I honestly don’t understand why people hold Dragon Quest XI in such high regard. I played for 6 hours and hated every second. The music is awful, the story (what I played of it) is so basic, “You’re adopted. Okay. Bye now.”, and for the entirely of those six hours the only option I had in combat was ‘Attack’. Sure, people are going to say “How can you judge it? You only played six hours.” Well, would you keep watching a tv show if the first episode was trash? Or if the first 15 minutes of a movie was terrible?
I'm happy to see that Bravely Default 2 is David's favourite turn based game on the Switch as it's mine too, but very surprised that he ranks it higher than the Dragon Quest games on the console, I thought for sure it would be his No1 choice. I wasn't really big on the Atelier games, until I discovered Nelke and the Legendary Alchemists has a town building mode in the game, which I enjoyed in Ni No Kuni 2, so I've added it to the buy in the future list.
Am I the only one who thought BDII was brain-numbingly boring? I tried liking that game so hard but after 49 hours I just couldn’t take any more of it.
I couldn't finish ocotopath traveler. It felt so tedious and boring to have a level 30 character start doing early missions of new characters picked up later in the game. Felt so boring.
The switch has probably the best rpg library since the ps1. The backlogged games are out of control and I'll be playing the switch for years to come. I kind of hope we enter a drought so I can get caught up at least a little.
I agree with most of this list but I'm sorry did you say that Bravely Default II's characters are better than the first? Haven't played the game myself but from what I've heard, the characters are NOT a praise point of the game. Pretty good list all the same.
I wish I had the confidence to go out of my way to tell someone who knows a lot about a game that their opinion is wrong, even though I’ve never played it myself. Unhinged behaviour.

Persona 5 and FF10. Persona is so smooth like butter with its gameplay loop and FF10 just has a lot going for it to make it's turn based gameplay interactive.

How does shin megami tensei 5 v run on the switch? I heard that this and trails in to daybreak had some major issues?
The Skies of Arcadia inspired RPG just got a release date!! Sky Oceans I believe it’s called. I’m so excited.

Maybe see how Maurie builds his arena. Could be cool. Add that to the wish list. Haha lots of people might read this so let's hype this completely made up idea? (sorry I spelled the names wrong)
There was already one that followed Yangus, but that was a mystery dungeon game
Ooo, that's a lovely collab video! 😊❤ Well done!
Somenof my Turn based RPGs include :
Persona 4 Golden
Undertale
World of Final Fantasy
Child of Light
Pokémon Sapphire
Wish you success and happiness always ✨️ 🌻🪷🩵
Thank you so much!
I love turn based RPG
Could you do like lists of First person dungeon crawler jrpgs? i love those
Didn't all the other consoles (except the 3DS) get the Swich version of DQXI ported to them?
Yup, but it came out first on the Switch :)
Could throw Tokyo Mirage Sessions on here too - for those looking for a Persona-like experience that’s nowhere near as long, it’s got all the SMT/Persona aspects you like in it - without the fluff
"that you have to play before you die"
David are you trying to tell us something?
Why haven’t I seen miss bubbles before!?!?!
I love turn-based games...real-time action RPGs stress me out and give me anxiety.
Also...what was that subtle screechy noise in the background of the video? I thought it was my PC's hard drive failing for a moment.
Is Mana Khemia good?
yes, it´s a game that somehow makes crafting fun, the combat system is fantastic too
@@r.a.fgattaiguy845 is the 2 connected too? I was thinking of playing both
@@ginkage5863 the second game happens after the first one, so some characters come back but that´s about it
Wow, David, I didn't even realize Bravely Default 2 borrows heavily from FF5, one of my favorite jrpgs. Still. Bravely Default 2 is much better than the 1st game just based on it's story alone.
Apacies: Creatures of the Old West releases tomorrow on Steam
I don’t know if you know but Dragon Quest 11 S is available on other platforms not just the switch
"Before you die" 💀
Kinda disappointed that both remakes of Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door weren't on the list. To me, they are the best representative into turned-based RPG on the Switch. Not to say the others weren't. But in terms of getting into these stuff on an easy side, Super Mario RPG and Thousand Year Door remake is perfect.
Yeah Atelier Marie is not a great game but that's obviously my opinion and this isn't my channel but either Mario RPG would've been a great pick.
DQ11 was a disappointment to me. 7 is still the best modern version to me.
Ha, I only have #s 9, 8 and 2 from this list. I want 6, but I still haven't finished it's predecessor
David when are you gonna release your workout and diet routine?!
Buy some taste kiddo. 😏
@@ifyoucanttakeitback615 people can have different tastes, your attitude isn´t going to change his opinion
@@r.a.fgattaiguy845 FO NOBODY cares.
@@ifyoucanttakeitback615 you clearly do though
I'm happy to see that Bravely Default 2 is David's favourite turn based game on the Switch as it's mine too, but very surprised that he ranks it higher than the Dragon Quest games on the console, I thought for sure it would be his No1 choice.
I wasn't really big on the Atelier games, until I discovered Nelke and the Legendary Alchemists has a town building mode in the game, which I enjoyed in Ni No Kuni 2, so I've added it to the buy in the future list.
My wallet likes and dislikes you for this lol😂😂😂
hmmm i wouldn't consider the ryza games to be turn based, they are more action oriented with an ATB system.
i do like aliance alive, i wouldnt call it a 10/10 though. the last 30 or 40% kinda feels lacking.
Am I the only one who thought BDII was brain-numbingly boring? I tried liking that game so hard but after 49 hours I just couldn’t take any more of it.
A list of turn based rpgs but Final Fantasy X isnt included???
I couldn't finish ocotopath traveler. It felt so tedious and boring to have a level 30 character start doing early missions of new characters picked up later in the game. Felt so boring.
tbf the first game did indeed have somewhat boring characters, but the second game fixed that
Really sad how every list like this someone has to shoe horn in some pokemon slop :/
Hey my favourite hunk
