This film is truly amazing. It does everything any screenwriter could ask for and more. It presents its story at face value, doesnt bother drawing conclusions for anyone. It just is as it is. Massive credit to Eclectic Translations for doing the subtitles, its the only way us english can enjoy this media, and the effort doesnt go unnoticed. Even though it is nearing a decade old, I think there are many lessons left for this film to teach, if of course, you are willing to listen. Really think about all it is trying to say, and draw your own conclusions as such.
I used to come back to this film from time to time. It has everything I’d love in a film. But I value this movie more than anything. The first time I watched this film it left me speechless and it was with someone I deeply cared about. That’s when I felt this person was truly special, to share a moment like that is truly rare for me. I loved the bits where he would pause just to offer me some more context which I always appreciated. I’ll always miss you. I’ll always hold this film close to my heart thanks to you. Have a good life.
1:41:31 "We live like animals and die like animals because we are nobodies to each other" One if the greatest lines in film. If more people, be they Russians, Americans, whoever, heeded that warning, the world would be a better place.
Dixie, I opened the comment section to write your very same quote and make almost the same comment. It’s heartwarming to know that somewhere there is someone with who you shared the very same and peculiar feeling. I would just add that the movie focuses very much on corruption, but it is only one of many ways that the quote is made real. Every country has it’s own way of bringing this about, but maybe, just maybe, there is a common solution for everyone
It just suddenly hit me that, this film is a very good metaphor for, if you are in an abusive family, when should you try to save them, and when should you get the hell out of there?
@@Bat0541 2014 is the year the movie was released. The only thing I could notice in the movie script about its probable year are the mobile phones, only a couple of phones appeared and they looked like from the end of 90's, beginning of 2000's.
@@ricardoramirez-ue5li Looks more like around 2010 to me. Those Audis are not so old and police chief's phone is very slim with a big screen. Looks like it could be a Blackberry. I don't know if it is but I don't know of any early 2000s phones with such dimensions. End of 90s would be Nokia 5110 and stuff.
It was an amazing film… really has a deep meaning but I couldn’t fully grasp it sadly, And this movie imo can only be watched once in 5 years cuz it’s a bit too long… and if Dim got shot with the other 2 guys it would have been a more compact film becuz the conclusion is the same, he’s dead either ways
The conclusion wouldn't be the same, he's dead (or at least beaten-up) by the people he tried to save so it shows that he was a fool in two ways - thinking that the elite cares for anyone but them and thinking that these poor people cares about themselves.
If that’s how you interpreted the movie, then you are the fool. You act like the rich people were not also criminals and junkies. As a structural engineer, the building was going to collapse and the MC was 100% correct. Definitely not an idiot.
It's a good movie but Dima was an idiot? Seriously? He was a hero not an idiot, he tried to save them against all odds and you have the audacity to call him an idiot? Who told you all of the 820 people are junkies and convicts? Are the teens, kids, wives and veterans also junkies and convicts? And even if some of them are convicts and junkies it doesn't mean they deserve to die so think before you post a stupid ignorant, offensive and heartless comment here. The blonde guy who hit him first and stirred up that mob beating is the one to blame first, he is an alcoholic junkie wife and daughter beater and he deserves to be put in jail but his wife and daughter didn't do shit so be fair and stop being cynical, be human again. And since you have a brain, a heart and guts, use them accordingly.
He wasn't an idiot. He had hope for humankind, and chose to die rather than let that hope be corrupted. If there is a Heaven, no one in this story will go there but him.
It’s not about the junkies it’s about the MC: he could not close his eyes to the crime and pretend nothing is happening even though hundreds are going to die

Perfect ending that reinforces the themes of the film. Glad I watched.

Thanks for uploading. Great film underrated
Masterpiece
thank you
Thank you !
outstanding
tremendous. specially because this could be set in most countries on the planet. corruption and greed are universal
Amazing movie. A master class into the human soul and its relation with the Golden Calf followers.
It was a nice movie
Thanks
The meaning of this movie to me is, "be good but not stupid"
The meaning is "Being good in a world full of indifference is considered stupidity"
Möhtəşəm film

Yes, We are fool indeed. We live like animals and die like animals because we are nobodies to each other。。。

Great, hard-hitting film. A realistic slice of Putin's Russia.
Kak durak are you
Putin is not the cause. He is a natural continuation. Russia is all that. This kind of people are owning nuclear weapon.

Don't tell me, you have a crush on Tucker Carlson and Putin.
