This is an amazing retrospective. I've always looked at batman in a "does good for the people" type of way and never really thought about him going "mad for justice" because of his past. That was a super interesting take. Makes me wanna play these games again
I literally just went through a binge of watching the the entire DC animated universe and now you release this video. Kinda funny how things work out. Either way you did a great job as usual, son.
Absolutely adore these games, and any conversation surrounding them is always fascinating. Really enjoying Monty Zander's series on the games, and to now get arguably my favourite voice in the long-form TH-cam space's take on it, we're in a TH-cam golden age man. Cheers son, another banger.
I was young when this came out. My first time hearing about it or seeing it was blockbuster, I got my dad to rent it. I sucked at it really bad but I got through although I had to have my dad complete the killer croc section cause it was to scary. He had to beat joker for me to. This game means a lot to me
I've played Arkham City first but I still think that Asylum is more Batman-ish for me! Also wanted to tell you that your Yakuza retrospectives were awesome. I've watched, more like listened to them all. My school has an assignments submission every semester, where we have to write really long assignments and your retrospectives help a lot while I'm writing those! So thanks!
i literally bought the trilogy like a month ago because it was on sale on PSN for like $6 and commented somewhere that it holds up so good for games that old it’s wild. and the newest one is so dope. i wish i could’ve played them in their hayday
Yes yes yes one of my favorite game series, Arkham asylum is a masterpiece when it comes to atmosphere, and of cause who could forget that sick intro, where you just walk ( seriously who knew just walking could be so good)
Hey son, your work always made me proud of you. But this time i can't wait to see your review of Batman Arkham Knight. I still play it to this day and hope you'll have as much fun as i do. Love Dad
@@YourFavoriteSon1 really? For me it's the very best of the Arkham games. The best narration and gameplay. Masterclass level and world design. The closest game to perfection. But i won't spoil your fun and just hope you'll enjoy it as much as i still do 8 years after it's release
It's hard to believe any of these games are as old as they are now, because they hold up so much better than anything we get today. Like Arkham Knight still plays better and looks better than current gen material.
What brings me back to Arkham Asylum has to be the atmosphere. I love the muggy and mysterious vibes it has and how the location it's feels like a character. Despite 100% the game two or three times in my life I like how the asylum still feels like it has some more mysteries waiting to be found
Love the Arkham gaming series . So cool to watch another retrospective. Great game and I’m looking forward to seeing more of your videos covering the series . Great video , editing, writing etc 🙌
Son, I cannot put into words how pleasantly surprised, even excited, I was to see this pop up in my sub feed. I'm only 6 minutes in, but I can already tell I was right to be excited. I'd type more, but I want to make sure I give the video its due attention. I'll wrap this up saying, looking forward to the rest of the Arkham series, if that isn't a presumptive thing to say.
I'm sure you have a lot coming up that you want to cover already, but with Redfall's recent tragic release it might be a good time to talk about Dishonored. Great video as always!
I'm really surprised that "Arkham-like" hasn't become a bigger thing, there are certainly enough games that have this smooth flowing combo-and-counter-based melee combat with or without gadgets/abilities mixed in exist to warrant a shorthand.
Hey son, it's your favourite Dad here. Great video, I just have one gripe though, what was the reasoning of not mentioning the scarecrow glitch that "resets" the game? I think maybe it's because you didn't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't played yet but you're spoiling the whole game, you may aswell mention one of the coolest scenes. I remember when it happened to me as a kid I legitimately thought my game crashed & restarted haha. Like I said though, great video I'm proud of you son
I am making my way through his videos and I really like them. My question to the veteran fans of this channel is: what's the meaning of the name? Do we know? Or is there no particular reason to the name? :)
Batman the Animated Series, Season 2 Episode 3 'Trail'. A new district attorney is outspoken about her dislike of Batman and her belief that Batman is the reason these villains exist. A prison riot at Arkham Asylum lets the villain hold a kangaroo court against Batman with the DA as his defense.
AA is the best arkham game for me. No arkham could imitate that atmosphere and realistic feeling. It was like you were reading a comic book. AC made huge improvements to gameplay and AK was biggest letdown for me.
Wonderful video son! This game was the first I bought online! When I first saw this games promo shots I thought it was going to be a crap rush to market super hero game since most of the time that is what we got back then. I stopped following it all together until I saw IGN and GameTrailers (rip!) reviews of it. A truely good super hero game?!? Arkham was a great game that really helped me through a tough time in my career. I'm glad you got to enjoy it at your age (I was in my late 20s back then) like I got to enjoy Batman The Animated series when I was younger. My son was born when the sequel came out so I had absolutely zero time to game back then! I can't wait to see your next video!
Sadly i no longer own a physical disk version for Xbox 360, i'm still able to get and revisit this masterpiece from Steam, i also glad i've skipped the Return to Arkham Asylum and City because man....those models looks terrible and the brighter lights ruined the atmosphere of this amazing comic book game world.
Am i the only one who thinks that "Dark Victory" is better than "the Long Halloween"? Pacing is better, twist is better, art style is the same but improved in every way posible, more action and the most important thing more Two Face. It's often ignored by people for some reason.
Batman and his villains do work in tandem, as they were created for him. That's how superhero comics work. Batman actually did overcome the loss of his parents in older comics, it was just rehashed in more modern ones because the writers didn't know how to write him without that crutch. It doesn't make sense a grown man is still traumatized and someone with his mental fortitude hadn't dealt with it, his purpose became preventing it from happening to anyone else and not lingering trauma fueling him.
I cant believe bro is knocking the best part of the game as "slowing it down" and considers the worst part of it "it's shining moment", go back to reading green fucking lantern.
I have really loved your videos after finding this account, but I have to say I was a bit disappointed when you said, "It makes you feel like batman" I feel like I expected more from your discussion than something IGN stated 10 years ago. I really do think you have the ability to create good in depth game analysis and I hope you keep it up!
It is easy to forget how much of a game changer AA was. When going back and playing games made around this time you can see pretty quickly how many games adopted some version of "detective vision" for better or worse
Why is this channel's theme about being a father's favorote son? Why does he say "hi dad" and "bye dad". Did this guy's father pas away or something, and now does this as some kind of dedication to him?
The combat was not unique at all. It was a common type of combat already established by then. Look at games the first assassins creed game which predated this game by 2 years
I loved these games quite a bit. Asylum was always my favorite just because i liked the tight confines of the game. I'm in the minority but i felt the stories got worse with each passing entry.
Even in the darkness of Gotham, the son still shines.
Happy Sonday!
I've been on an Arkham binge for 3 days now thank you for rekindling the flame once more
Hope you enjoy this one!
I'm on one too. I just finished origins asylum and city so I just need a playthrough of knight. Maybe my 10th time doing so
This is an amazing retrospective.
This is your sign
Absolutely adore these games, and any conversation surrounding them is always fascinating.
Really enjoying Monty Zander's series on the games, and to now get arguably my favourite voice in the long-form TH-cam space's take on it, we're in a TH-cam golden age man.
Cheers son, another banger.
"I was always more of a green lantern head"
Ridiculously based. Easily my favourite superhero.
Good to see another Green Lantern CHAD
I was young when this came out. My first time hearing about it or seeing it was blockbuster, I got my dad to rent it. I sucked at it really bad but I got through although I had to have my dad complete the killer croc section cause it was to scary. He had to beat joker for me to. This game means a lot to me
just listened to a retrospective on Asylum at work yesterday
guess it’s time for another 💪
Hope you enjoy it!
Still the best in the series by a landscape and one of the best 3D Metroidvanias out there.
Batman isn’t even a super hero he is just a very rich guy who can get a lot of gadgets
So thanks!

Hello son, you made my night as always, proud of you
Hope you enjoy!
Hey son, your work always made me proud of you. But this time i can't wait to see your review of Batman Arkham Knight. I still play it to this day and hope you'll have as much fun as i do.
Love
Dad
Arkham Knight is the only one I haven't tried so I'm curious to see how it is
@@YourFavoriteSon1 really? For me it's the very best of the Arkham games. The best narration and gameplay. Masterclass level and world design. The closest game to perfection. But i won't spoil your fun and just hope you'll enjoy it as much as i still do 8 years after it's release
Still my favorite Batman Arkham game 💜💚💜
39:06 I never realised that detail of the guards helmet coming off in combat.
It's hard to believe any of these games are as old as they are now, because they hold up so much better than anything we get today. Like Arkham Knight still plays better and looks better than current gen material.
Great work man, really enjoyed this one! You've made me want to replay the series.
Glad you enjoyed the video!

we owe this game series being possible solely due to Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill loving to work together as these two characters
Great video as always. I would love to see you cover the fear and hunger games. You're the only person who can do it justice
OurFavoriteSon is the Chosen Son! He will lead the Algorithm into a new Golden Age!
(But seriously, Son's style would fit well with your suggestion!)
Only complain I have about this video is that it’s not long enough. Good job on this one bud.
Lord of the Rings games had one of the best implementations of this fight mechanic. The flow you can get in these games is the best.
Been waiting a long time for this one, son!
Hope you enjoy it!
Finally, the arkham series.. Great job me boi.
God damn, do you ever take breaks? Thanks for making my weekend a little better.
Only Never
Ma man reviewing all the classics
Always 🙏
Love the Arkham gaming series . So cool to watch another retrospective. Great game and I’m looking forward to seeing more of your videos covering the series . Great video , editing, writing etc 🙌
The thing about this is that I know Im gonna be rewatching it when the 4 hour version comes out
Same, I use long form retrospectives as white noise at work so it's nice to know son will be checking out at least 3 of the 6 arkham games
I love the Arkham games. Great work, son.
Edit: I didn't know Paul Dini was a writer on this game, but it makes total sense.
Thanks Dad
So much excellent content lately my son. Bravo 👏👌
Glad you enjoy!
Its mad how well the graphics have held up
NEW VIDEO - YES!
Hope you enjoy!
I love these videos always so informed and so nice to chill and listen too
As a Lantern fan, I've never been more proud, Son.
Hey son, it's your favourite Dad here. Great video, I just have one gripe though, what was the reasoning of not mentioning the scarecrow glitch that "resets" the game? Exited to see the origins review since it's my favorite, good job son!
Son, you can't talk about DC villians without using the term "Rogues Gallery" a few dozen times.
True, I'll have to make up for it in the next 3 videos.
"I like to take the loud approach." *Inverted takedowns directly in front of a line of three armed henchman.*
You don't say?!
oh man that scarecrow fight is so vivid to me ......
I only played this for a while but after this review I will
Have to play the whole game Thanks Son
Love your videos, please keep making them!!!!!
I am making my way through his videos and I really like them.
My question to the veteran fans of this channel is: what's the meaning of the name? Do we know? Or is there no particular reason to the name? :)
Maxie Zeus gets a mention! As if I needed any more proof that you’re my favorite son! Well done!
Brilliant timing!
Just bought this and now more keen to play 👍
enjoy!!!
Arkham Asylum was so influential, there's still new games to this very day that try to emulate its combat system.
I don't think anybody can look at me with a straight face and tell me this game doesn't hold up. RIP Kevin Conroy.
Rip Kevin Conroy we will all miss him as Batman so much 😢
If you grew up with the animated series this was also perfect from that angle
Great vid mate
Oh boy here we go
This game is a timeless classic.
I love the Cobes-Strand type gameplay here. This is a good review. I love hearing your mouse click between each slide. Pun intended.
Hearing someone praise the boss fights of Arkham Asylum but then say he doesn't like the stealth is pretty wild to me >_>
I don't know if it is relevant in research, but I think there are comics set in the Arkham-verse, that bridge the gaps between the games.
AA is the best arkham game for me. No arkham could imitate that atmosphere and realistic feeling. It was like you were reading a comic book. AC made huge improvements to gameplay and AK was biggest letdown for me.
10:47 he says the thing
Son never stops
17:45 destroy itttttttt

One of those trilogies I have two Platinum trophies on.
Bro you gotta do a video on backyard wrestling with icp that shit was dope

To me, Arkham Asylum is the best of the series!
Dude, did you make all these videos before starting your channel? I can't believe the rate you release this stuff at
you were 12 when this came out? I was being drafted into nam
I was born in the dark
Comment for the algorithm
I cant believe bro is knocking the best part of the game as "slowing it down" and considers the worst part of it "it's shining moment", go back to reading green fucking lantern.
Good stuff
i love predator, im the opposite of you, always taking the silent route if its possible
this game was so fun
FUCK YEAH
Lets fuckin gooooo
💪
Green lantern ftw! ❤
very nice video!

Full of the exaggerated swagger of a grown man in a bat suit

This game is groovy.
Keep the typo in the title card, I bet it will get more views
Green Lantern could be beaten by an angry banana.
There aren’t raccoons or coyotes? Are there not trash creatures in Germany? How did those bags manage to stay intact for weeks?
Metroidwayneia
gg.
The combat was not unique at all. It was a common type of combat already established by then. Look at games the first assassins creed game which predated this game by 2 years
People don’t realize how much of an innovation Freeflow Combat was
I think joker needs batman . But Batman doesn't need Joker. I think they over played the batman joker rivalry
Wow I’m first
Congratulations
Riddler is two syllables. You're making my ears bleed.
23:18 no that's a trash batman take
I loved these games quite a bit. Asylum was always my favorite just because i liked the tight confines of the game. I'm in the minority but i felt the stories got worse with each passing entry.
ewww graphics didnt age well 😆
