This is the first video in a series of my character tributes for TVD. I plan on making one for every character. I'm still not sure who will the next one be about, but I wanted to start with my favorite tv character of all time - Damon. The only reasons I kept watching after Elena left, was for him. I acknowledge he's not perfect. He's done some horrible things and he knows it too. He killed people, hurt his loved ones. But he's also fiercely loyal, and ready to sacrifice himself for Elena, his family and friends (even though it takes him some time to actually care for someone). 'Damon logic' might be messed up, but I've always been able to understand him and sympathize with his story.
Damon was never a one dimensional character. He had to grow up with an abusive father, always trying to 'earn' his approval. His mother was never strong enough to leave Giuseppe, but left her sons to live with that monster while she found a new family - and then came back only to take Elena away from Damon. Every girl he's ever truly loved rejected him for Stefan, the brother who forced him to turn into a vampire. He's been pushed around throughout his entire life as a human. Hurt by his parents; after waiting for over a hundred years - hurt by Katherine, and even by Elena in season 3. He made some horrible choices, there's no denying that. He always had his reasons though, and I'm so glad that at the end - he got his happy ending! The human life he deserves, with the girl that loves him back.

I never really like Stefan he always got away with really bad shit cus he could act all sad and contrite but the still do the same thing but forgiven without even truly trying to be better he is an addict who blames everything bad he does on his evil brother and his blood addiction
In all honesty I don’t like Lexi she is a self ritious bitch to Damon for no reason because she bought into Steven poor me act she is at times up her own ass about how she saved Steven from not only himself but his oh so evil brother
Who took beating for him from their tyrannical father and tried to be there form him when their mother passed only to find out their mother not only lived she abandoned them with their abusive father Lilly didn’t give a shit about her kids she is just as bad as Ester and Michael in the shitty parents category
Was it shocking when Damon killed her not really but if he hadn’t it would have thrown him and Steven under subspesion of the council and would have gotten them killed it would have been pointless
Damon never lied that he did bad things he didn’t hide be hind a sweet facade he was honest with others and himself
He became what others always called him inhuman incapable of love
The only thing I hate Damon for his how he abused Caroline in season 1
That was beyond fucked up and he should answer for that never the less

Cierra Williams he was never the good guy, he was always saying that, i love his character just like Damon's character is. He didn't lie about what he was, he was honest and he could get over himself, so... idk your reasons to hate him, but he's pretty much the greatest male character on the show. I love the villain charater, all the characters (except for Bonnie and Matt) have been done horrible things, the vampire diaries it's pretty much a show to love the villains. So yeah, i love Damon, he's an amazing, sarcastic, badass epic king.

Cierra Williams honestly i love Stefan too, i'm nothing like a Stefan hater or something, maybe Stefan was one of my fv characters too, but he decided to die for Damon, it was his choice, because Damon compel him to go and he could die for him, but Stefan was on vervain so... he decided to do that for his brother. I respect your opinion, but i love both of Salvatore brothers, and some of things of the most of the characters are pretty questionable to me. And for my Damon and Elena are nothing like toxic, he changed a lot and if you didn't see it it's that your hate it's blinding your judge. Delena is epic for me.

Elena, knew Damon better than anyone even though she knew how he was she still saw the good in him and wanted to show Stefan that he wasn’t beyond redemption.
Damon is and will always be a man who gives so much, loves more then anyone, cares way too much it consumes him. He is a great person, he is someone who can be loved, he is not a monster. The only reason why he made everyone think he was so no one expected anything good. Damon was afraid if he showed just a bit of sensitivity, people would want him to show more and if it was all out there he knew he would get hurt again. Damon Salvatore is possibly the most amazing, attractive, caring, loving, selfless, person to ever live.

Yeah not only that but as a child, toddler, adolesent, teenager, and young adult he barely received any real love or appreciation from his Parents and they where heavily abusive to him in many ways like Niklaus's parents were to him and Katherines family was to her that and the fact that he was pure pressured by fear and to try to earn his Father's approval by going to war and facing traumas in that war those combinations along with his obsession with Katherine are major reasons with some hesitation mind you that he was eventually able to look past her feeding and killing human habits after all Katherine probably told him that is how most Vampires survive and also taught him how to be prudent, pragmatic, careful, cautious, and selective of the people he fed and killed or fed and compelled for food

Exactly. Like yes he hasn’t made the best decisions in the world. But I feel really bad at the fact that Elena and Katherine told him the exact same thing “it’s always gonna be Stefan” that HURTS.
That's why he killed Jeremy. Not just because he was rejected twice, but because he was rejected twice and those feelings are magnified for a vampire.

Say whatever about Ian but he crafted this character a lot and gave so much depth to him. He did such an OUTSTANDING job throughout the 8 years, i will always be grateful for that and i couldn't imagine anyone else playing damon as good as he did. Credit where is due.
And speaking of...ALL THE AWARDS TO YOU FOR THIS ABSOLUTE PERFECT MASTERPIECE!
My heart is still racing so fast, the perfect tribute for the perfectly imperfect character that is Damon. I will always love him, he stole a piece of my heart a long time ago and never gave it back. I don't think i will ever love another character as much as I love him. Simply stunning!

When Damon says “these days you’re gonna realize you don’t know me half as well as you think” to stefan made me realize how it’s true, stefan knows nothing about Damon. He only knows the outside of Damon. Damon in the inside is the kindest, most selfless ever. When Damon said that line the one thing I thought about was the time he was getting tortured where he met Enzo. Stefan didn’t know until season 8.

thank you for saying this! I have been saying this for so long. people who hate the character really don't understand it. I love Damon, he's very complex but really not. one of my all time favorite characters.
he didn't mind being so because there were always some kind of "dirty work" to be done and he couldn't allow his little bro. to be the one to handle such tasks. he wanted Stefan to be the "hero" and he always took the "villain" "bad boy" role so that things could be done for the people he loved. just like old times when he confessed stealing the money he never even knew about just to shield his bro. the punishment he'd get if ever Guisseppe had gone mad for that :'(

Damon Salvatore is one of the most amazing fictional characters. He has depth and emotion to everything he does. He was just a man that had his love taken advantage of. His father treated him like he was worthless, his mother left him when he was just a boy, and his brother was always the first choice. Before he turned he loved someone so fully yet he was taken advantage of. Because of this he hid his feelings and closed off because he didn’t want to be vulnerable at get hurt again. Damon acted like the bad guy because of the fear of people expecting more from him if he did show a little bit of emotion. All he ever wanted in life was to be loved. He constantly thought he was the problem so he would take himself out of the equation. Damon did good things without anyone knowing. He didn’t take credit for any of the good things he’s done. he would always hide his good acts, then close off and act like one of the bad guys. When Damon Salvatore loves, he loves fully and completely. He’s been damaged in the past but he tries to become a better person. He’s always there for those who need him. Even though he has trouble expressing his emotions in the right way, he still loves so completely that it consumes people. He is one of the most selfless characters on the show. He disappoints people in the beginning so they won’t expect more from him. He always was the second choice and believed he didn’t deserve to be loved. People treated him like a monster so he decided to act like he was one. He closed off his heart in fear it would get broken again. Damon tried so hard to become a better person for the ones he loved and wanted to change but his past trauma always got in the way. In the end he ended up becoming a better man; a selfless caring man. Elena opened his heart up again and showed him it was ok to feel. Once he opened his heart back up he never closed it again and loved everyone so consumingly. “If you’re bad, be bad with a purpose. Otherwise you’re just not worth forgiving.” Damon was fine being seen as the bad guy if it meant the ones he loved would be protected. He knew that people may get hurt along the process but them being alive was better than them being dead. He always labeled himself as the bad brother and Stefan as the “good brother.” Damon is so selfless in this act because he believes that he isn’t worth saving or worth the time of day. So he lets Stefan receive all of the love while he is in pain. Damon is a hero in the villains clothing. He acts bad but is actually one of the kindest most selfless Human beings. When he finally receive some love by Elena. He devoted himself to protecting her and he tried to not be selfish with her. If that meant that he would get hurt because she loved his brother and he was the second choice he didn’t matter as long as she was happy. All he ever wants is Elena to be happy, even if it’s not with him. He reassures people and helps them through their tough times. He lets them know that they are worth it and he speaks so highly about all of his friends. He had the best character development in history. His love is so pure and he has the right intentions even if he doesn’t understand how to express it in the right way. “Just because he doesn’t love you the way you want him to, doesn’t mean he doesn’t love you with all he has.” Damon tried so hard to become a better man but he always thought he couldn’t. He was broken for many years yet he allowed himself to love again. Many focus on all the bad things that Damon as done and they don’t focus on all the good he has accomplished also. His father chose Stefan, his mother chose Stefan, Katherine chose Stefan, and at one point Elena did choose Stefan too. He had to live with that pain of being the second choice. However finally someone had chose him in the end and that was Elena. Elena showed him the light once again and brought him out of the darkness. He hurts because he knows he can’t live up to anyone’s expectations “I can’t be what other people want me to be.” “She wants me to be the better man, which means I can’t be who I am.” He just needed love in his life to being him back to who he was before. His smile lights up a room and his love fills others hearts. He sacrifices his happiness for the happiness of others. That is Damon Salvatore, my comfort character.

One of Damon's most obvious traits is selflessness and how caring he is for the people he loves. He's been let down over and over again by everyone he cares about but still he tries his hardest to do the right thing and what ever it takes everyday and every second. I love him so much❤️

Damon was the better man. I knew that from the beginning. I hated Stefan in the first few seasons and only came to kinda respect him in the last one. He was a good guy too but Damon stole my heart.
ALINA Damon stole my heart from episode 1. Stefan on the other hand was always the luckiest one (he got Katherine, he got Elena, he got his father’s love, he’s got his friends etc etc ) Damon had nothing, everything was stolen from him ..why? Because he cared too much. Stefan does bad things, Stefan kills hundreds of people (ripper period ) he gets forgiven for that, he acts like an ass..again forgiven ....Damon never gets forgiven for what he does (just because HE WAS HURT) Stefan tries to be an utter ass when Elena chose Damon over him ...Damon being the insecure person because he thinks he doesn’t deserve it (love) whereas HE DESERVES ALL THW LOVE
Yamini XD 1) stefan got katherine and Elena because he was a better guy simple as that. Katherine said Damon was better looking but stefan was always the one for her. How is that his fault?
2) Stefan can’t control the ripper gene. He spent his life being a better person and not feeding from people til damon had to screw that up for him.
3) the reason no one forgives Damon is because he took lives when things didn’t go his way. He killed Jeremy because elena didn’t want to kiss him. Do you really think if he didn’t have the ring on and stayed dead delena would’ve ever happened?.. I have to laugh. He killed his uncle and pregnant woman. He killed aaron, Elena’s only college friend when they broke up. He raped and used caroline in season 1 and we never saw an apology from him. I don’t even wanna keep going but keep in mind he did all of this WITH his humanity on :)
4) the reason stefan was angry with they lied to him. that slut and trash of a brother fucked right after Stefan and Elena broke up, AND the rest of summer while stefan was busy drowning with no one making an effort to look for him because they were too busy rolling in the sheets. Stefan flipped a table chill out. Y’all claim he’s “changed” but If the Roles were reversed Damon would’ve went on a rampage and killed people lmao
Stefan constantly sacrificed his happiness and died in the end. Bonnie never got a happy ending and neither did caroline. They suffered a lot too saving dumb ass elena and bonnie at the hands of Stefan. Wanna know why? Because stefan sacrificed himself to the freaking devil in order for his brother to be free. Stefan is the better man. Period
Yeah I agree with y'all, I totally get Damon, and honestly liked him from day one, him yelling Stefan that he promised him an eternity of misery was just an excuse to be around, and he never killed for himself, he started to care about the redhead chick and had to put her down when it was time and you could see how broken he was and is, he didn't deserve all the shit that went his way, but at least he got his happy ending

He was hurt and wasted if I remember correctly in that episode Katherine said it was always Stefan , Elena said the same thing . So he snapped, remember a vampires emotions are heightened and that still doesn't excuse him.but u make it seem like he's a sociopath with no remorse for anything . It's not Stefan's fault either that he's always picked first but u have to admit he got off easy with parents, with the girls aka Elena and Katherine . I don't understand how someone could possibly hate someone like Damon. He's just hurt. He hurts and he cares and feels. He loves and he is amazing. He's the good guy and people think so low of him. He's honestly the most amazing person. I know for sure that if I ever got the chance to meet him. I would wanna be his friend right away. He's amazing

Idk how I used to live without TVD; it's a fantastic show. I love Damon and Delena. I love everything about the show; even if it can be annoying at times, it will always be in my heart until I take my last breath. It will be my favorite show, and that will never change. It helped me through so much, and for that, I will always love it. No matter what, it gave me hope. It saved my life.

I have so many shows I love. So many characters I love. But he’s my all time favourite. You know why? Not because of his womaniser charm ( it’s a good one though) or because of his cunning humour and intelligence. I love him because of his compassion that’s hidden deep within his heart. Over the years, Ian gave so much to this character. He brought out his compassion slowly for all the people this character cared about. I don’t get how people could hate this character. He went through so much, and he suffered for all the people he cared about. Lets not forget that in season 1’s finale, he saved an entire town, and put himself in danger. He saved the whole town from the originals the best he could. In season 5, he saved everyone before he could save himself. He saved Elena numerous times, and was always there for his best friends , Alaric and Bonnie. He was the perfect brother. He took care of Stefan since he was young, even if their father was so fucked up. He was always pushed around, rejected by the gurls he loved because they always chose stefan, (i have no idea why they would choose stefan) and was abused by his father. He always pretended to be the bad guy when he really was the guy who saved others. he was always scared about what people might expect from him if he showed too much kindness. But this character was the best older brother, best friend, husband, and probably a father, which he would be great at as well. His selfishness, is what saved others. This character truly deserved peace with the love of his life in the end. A reunion with his brother. He’s been through so much, he came to mystic falls, to destroy it and everyone in it, but that one girl, changed his heart, and his brother was always there for him. He left mystic falls, protecting everything and everyone in it. He’s always going to be my favourite. This beautiful character who fights through everything, to keep his loved ones and other people safe and happy. He’s truly the best character on television there ever is. And it’s all credits to Ian and the TVD cast who helped bring this beautiful character out. I will always love him.❤️ for his selfishness, his badass self, his compassionate self, his pure love, and his womaniizing skills.🤪❤️😂

I fall in love with these fictional characters because their imperfections only make them more perfect, and this is proof of that
The scene at 0:37; when I first watched this show, I knew at that moment, that Damon would be my favorite character. Everyone is lovable in their own way, but Damon owned up to himself; by saying exactly what, and how he was. Nobody ever does that. And despite all the bad things he did, especially in the beginning, I couldn't help but see good in him. That scene really showed the good in Damon; it was the turning point in how I primarily saw him.

People (locals) regularly like Damon the most because he’s easily the hottest character within the whole cast. I’ve always seen him further than that. He’s bad, but bad with a purpose. People think he’s reckless and horrible, when really, all he ever wanted to do was to keep his friends safe. And when he realized he couldn’t, he locked himself in a coffin for 3 years just hoping that he couldn’t screw things up. And after that, people still continued to judge him. And when he fell in love with Elena. She loved Stefan and couldn’t possibly imagine to ever love Damon no matter what happened. So he proved her wrong. He was good and he stayed that way as long as he could. And when he finally got her, he lost her. And every time he got her back he lost her again. Either he died, or she erased her memories, or her life was paused until someone else died. No matter how hard he tried to be good, he was interrupted. Something always got in his way. So he was himself. And he was bad. But he was bad for all the right reasons. He saved his friends & family, got married, and finally was appreciated for being Damon Salvatore. And that’s why he’s my favorite character.

*OMG* This is one of the best tributes I've ever seen. Damon at his purest side. I've always liked him since episode 1 because I usually fall for bad guys but it wasn't impossible to not fall deeply and completely in love season after season. I just think he have been through so much since he was a little kid and seeing all of it in this made me so damn emotional. I feel this is the first of many times I'll watch this video and actually any of your videos. I'm looking for all the other tributes and I hope they make me feel everything this one made me. There’s honestly guys like Damon out there that do amazing things for those they love and make decisions that benefit others, they do whatever they can to make the ones they love happy, they always put others first, and so much of the great things they do go completely unnoticed, I’ve had friends who were great to the girls they loved but the girls just took them for granted and don’t notice the good they do and it’s sad because it should be noticed, guys get a bad name because people mainly notice the assholes, the genuine good guys go unnoticed, I’ve loved the same girl for 6 years I’ve supported her through relationships I’ve helped her through heartbreaks I’ve done so much for her in order for her to be happy because that’s all I want even if it meant breaking my own heart to ensure hers was fixed. There is guys that are good like Damon, but they don’t all have a girl like Elena that’s observant enough to notice the good within them...

He proved repeatedly that he IS a hero. Even Damon was far too hard on himself. I love this character.

This is why Damon is my favorite character of the series. And aside from Caroline, has one of the best character developments too. I love the fact that from the first few episodes, we see that Damon isn’t at all what he makes himself out to be. Sure he can be a bad guy who does terrible things, but we see that that’s not all he is. At the end of the day, he’s just a man who had a rough and traumatic childhood with everyone he’s ever loved and cared for abandoning him over and over. He’s sacrificed so much, even at a young age, and did everything he could to please those he cared for. But they just kept letting him down. He always tried to protect Stefan from their fathers wrath, he loved his mother a lot, but she “died”, and later found out she just straight out abandoned them for another life and family. He tried to please his father and be a good son by joining the civil war, even though he grew up with the abuse from him and still having his father constantly tell him he was a disappointment and was a disgrace. He fell for Katherine who was his first love. Loved her so much and when Stefan found out about her secret, he begged Stefan not to tell anyone, especially their father. And of course, Stefan betrays Damon and spills the beans, leaving Damon so heartbroken about both scenarios. That he lost the love of his life and that his brother, whom he loved and always protected and trusted betrayed him and hurt him. Then later on, Found out after 145+ years that Katherine the one woman he really loved, could care less about him and never loved him, and always preferred Stefan. I mean all those abandonments and betrayals really messed him up. And it made him close himself off from people and it made him very protective of his heart. Hence the cruel, heartless, dead inside persona.
He became broken, and as a result, he had to protect whatever “goodness” was left. Damon wasn’t always selfish and cruel by nature. He was always protective, sacrificing, loyal, kind, naive, and loving. He wasn’t a monster. He was just broken. And scared of getting hurt and abandoned again. Serious abandonment and betrayal issues can really screw a person up.
And it wasn’t until Elena and the influence of the people in present day Mystic Falls that changed Damon and made him open up more.
I love the line Damon says to Stefan in season 4, where they go to New Orleans to figure out how literal the sire bond is. He says “one of these days you’re gonna realize you don’t know me half as well as you think.” And it’s so true. Stefan really never knew his brother. He never knew just how much he sacrificed and just how much he could care about people when he wanted to. He just doesn’t show it as openly as Stefan does. Because every time he does show it, he always gets hurt.
Just because Damon chooses not to show most of the time that he can be a good guy, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t know how to be one. Stefan has always had it easy, and has always had things handed to him. He never felt what it was like to have such a traumatic childhood because Damon was always there making sure Stefan would never have to know such a fate. And in turn, it screwed Damon up big time. But over the years, Damon learns how to heal and how to be a better man, how to open up and show just how kind, selfless, and loving he can be. That’s why Damon is my favorite character. He’s so much more than what he makes himself out to be. There’s so much more to him than meets the eye. Deep down, all Damon wanted was to be loved and for someone to stay. And in the end he found it. With the love of his life, and repaired the love he had for his brother.
It's sad how he was forced into this role, he cares so much yet everyone takes advantage of it and uses it against him, so he puts a heartless and emotionless front to cover it so he doesnt get hurt again. Everyone misunderstands him and treats him differently for trying to do something right.

Damon was always treated like shit by his family, lover other people. The father said “ I am disappointed in you” causing Damien to want to do better and make his dad proud. Then Katherine pick Stefan over him causing his heart to break because he was never pick. And so he for filled the role of being this ‘ monster’ that people said he is. So Damon believed it, so he decide to play the role well and make everyone hate him. I honestly felt bad for him because his dad and mom wanted him to be like Stefan

I think Damon always cared too much, and that's why he had to shut his emotions off or freeze them out. Everyone assumed Damon just didn't care, but it was always his emotions that had him sacrificing himself for other people/making rash decisions. It was never callousness, it was always consuming emotion.
I was feeling the same about the way they wrote these brothers. I often imagine what it must have been like... Damon consuming Elena. When ripper Stefan consumed her, she let go of the necklace and picked up training with Alaric.
This is why Elena is so special to him, she's the first and only one to understand him so well. She knows his intentions have always been to find love because he never got unconditional love. Elena was the one that gave him real happiness because her love for him was as deep as his love for her and she never gave up on him.
Damon was only reason I started watching tvd. Then it was the originals.. when originals left.. Damon again was the only reason I watched it till the end.

I have never loved a character so much! I started watching the Originals and it is very good, but it’s missing something... until I realized it was someone. Delena was messy and was never a perfect picture. But it was real. It was true. Stelena was cute, but it was a fantasy. Love is not true unless you can truly be yourself with your partner. Stefan fought everyday to be someone he wasn’t, which is why he didn’t belong with Elena. Damon was always true to himself, never fell out of love like the rest on TVD. His love and character remained true and constant. Thank you for this beautiful tribute.

This is such an amazing tribute to Damon! ICA with your description, every word! Yes he's done bad things and gas hurt the ppl the loves but he's changed, he still tried to be good even after everything, nobody is perfect and I think the thing I hate most is everyone acts like Stefan is perfect and a saint, I love him too but every time Damon messes up, he had to be work to be forgiven, and ppl constantly threw things he did from s1-2 back.in his face, while Stefan went bad in s3, bit Elena and he's just forgiven, Damon had it rougher IMO, nobody ever chose him, nobody loved him until Elena, so he chose to keep ppl at a distance so he didn't get hurt again, everyone makes mistakes. It's what they do to fix them that matters, and Damon is why I stuck with the show too because not only was DE my otp but Elena was my favorite character so it was double difficult for me yi watch lol but this is do amazing I can't.
Damon will always be my favorite character out of anything I’ve watched. He was the most developmental character out of the entire series. No one grew as much as Damon had within the 8 years of TVD. The thing I love about this video is that it doesn't gloss over the shitty stuff he's done, but it allows us to see the good things he's tried his best to do and honor those as well. It perfectly showcases his struggle, and I love that he's not as one-dimensional as some other characters
I'm happy you noticed that I didn't try to erase Damon's wrongdoings, but also tried to acknowledge the amazing things he's done for the people he cares for. He struggled a lot. It took him a lot of time to figure out who he really is (always torn between what people wanted to be, his human self and the monster he thought he was). She's my favorite because she's compassionate, strong, loyal, she'd do anything for the ppl she loves, she was willing to give herself to Klaus in s2 to protect everyone she loves. You might think she's annoying but I don't. And BTW she dated Stefan for s1-2 + 6 EPs of s4 but once she chose Damon she NEVER went back to Stefan, Damon was her soulmate (her own words!) And true love. You don't have to like her that's fine but don't hate on me because she's my favorite character.
