The LARGE flame will burn off their wings so they can't fly at you, while you're waiting for the spray to kill them. OBVIOUSLY DON'T keep the flame on long enough to damage the object / surface the hornets are resting on. A quick spray of a few seconds is usually enough to burn off their wings. DON'T DO THIS if there are any fuel leaks anywhere.
