The typewriter scene is so adorable. The presentation of the assignment was in itself a work of art.

I know nobody signed up for lengthy personal reflection in the comments section, but this video really struck a chord with me and I feel a strong desire to express that right now.
One of the things I truly love about myself is that, from time to time, I am capable of creating something truly ridiculous and silly and meaningful in a way that only I can create. Which isn't to say what I create is better or more valuable than anyone else's creations, simply that they're deeply important to me because they are clear demonstrations of myself and my identity and the value those things hold. They're extensions of myself and they help me to remember my own voice and the weight it can carry.
In the last few years, I've struggled a lot with depression, my mental health has been very strained, and those creations have been very scarce. In a lot of ways, I've felt like my identity has fallen apart and I've had a very difficult time trying to find value and worth in who I am. The further I've fallen into this struggle, the less and less I've felt able to create anything worthwhile, and in turn I've been less and less able to view myself as valuable.
One of the proposals in this video has given me one such an idea for something ridiculous, silly, and meaningful in a way that only I can create, and I am committed to seeing that through. I'm going to get back on my feet and back to being me, and that starts with a little something I picked up on:
The proposal says to leave, find a rock, and kick it back to where you started. It puts no restrictions whatsoever on the amount of distance between start and finish, and I intend to take full advantage of that.

This is great! Sometimes the smallest things can be huge milestones, and I'm so happy this proposal allows inspired you to take action and bring it to life in your own unique way. I'm really looking forward to seeing the result and this embodiment of you in it.

I just stumbled across this channel yesterday. Peter's riff on physical art being a support structure for unseen works of the imagination struck me hard. It also reminded me of something Alex Grey said in his Cosmic Creativity Ted Talk: "The painter channels the creative force into the artifact and this artifact then becomes a battery ready to zap a viewer into a new way of seeing the world." Beautiful.

At first i wasn't going to realize any of these proposals least of all the rock kicking one because.... effort.
But here's the thing i was watching this video to procrastinate going to the DIY store, it was something i knew i had to do but i was really struggling to gather the energy to go.
this is a familiar affair in my life, i often struggle with finding the energy to do things that need to happen.
So I told myself "instead of kicking a rock to some location i ought to kick myself to where i need to go (figuratively speaking of course)" and i did, i got out of the house and at every step of the journey starting at ,my front door i took a selfie.
took the elevator down and walked to the parking lot of my apartment complex = selfie, walked to the bus stop = selfie, travel by bus to the next bus stop= selfie etc.
All together it took me the better part of the day to get it done and there were plenty of setbacks and annoyances of varying sizes along the way but i kicked my rock all the way to the store and back.

I was shocked that I instantaneously felt myself in the stream. My feet were cold and the water parting around me as I tried to not slip on the rocks beneath. I could smell the Earth and feel the breeze traveling in the same direction as the water , which made all the leaves oscillate and propagate noise. I could hear birds flying and the light was just before sunset. This was all before the next prompt came. Maybe this is because mountains and creeks are my favorite place to be.

The way the proposals are written and presented so matter-of-factly make them remarkably effective. Instantaneous almost. Most effortless art assignment you've ever done?

It was! All the artists have given stimulating prompts. Even if I don't have the time to do all the assignments, they always make me envision what I would do.

I loved this assignment! And especially the idea. How interesting it is to make fulfilling these proposals as a way of life! Propose something, do it, and repeat! Especially to those (including myself) who are confused about the path they want to take in their lives, fulfilling these proposals, as they go on the way of taking action, can be really rewarding.
Thank you Sarah so much for introducing me to Mr. Peter Liversidge. This was amazing!

    (1) Proposals. A few years ago three of us stood up in a room and said, "We'll do it," and nine months later 200 people spent their weekend doing something (intense) they would not otherwise have done. That really struck me at the time, we stood up in a room and said, "Yes," and it came to something which I thought in its own way was very powerful. "The power of ideas".
    (2) I followed the links, including the one to the Whitechapel. More protesting (see the Guerrilla Girls). I think this is negative. What the world needs is positive alternatives. A protest is just a moan. So, if you don't like the way something is then propose a better alternative. (Tbf the kids do have a poop proposal.)
    (3) _Do It_ - that idea is well worth following/Googling - I strayed from the path and ended up at Rachel Sussman's _The Oldest Living Things in the World_.

Wow, I'm really taken by this assignment. I never really gave much thought to it before, but almost all the work that is done in my field of work (architecture) comes out of proposals. A client calls and proposes some work, you respond with a proposal for a solution (the initial client contact is even termed an RFP or Request for Proposal). A competition is nothing but a giant proposal like Peter writes, and the entries are both the responses to the proposal, but also a proposal for how the project could proceed (that the jury/client can then choose). Really interesting, gives me some food for thought. :) Also, I am going to go immediately search out audio of the choir performance in the turbine hall at the Tate. And I I may just go kick a rock... :D

This reminds me of my experience reading Yoko Ono's Grapefruit. The presence of eminently doable instructions alongside the impossible is really key to it, whether or not you actually do any of them, I think. I love it.
As a playwright, it also made me realize how much a script is really a proposal.

Well-said. There's something very comforting about the doable. It can be an anchor in a sea of things you can't control.

I propose to invite the reader of this proposal to to dress as their parents: Both of my parents work from home. If I were to dress like my parents, I would be doing a pretty good job doing it already. I dress for comfort, not style. They sit at their desks all day, but are comfy. Sweatpants and a comfy tee. Now if either of my parents were to go on a business trip, that would be a little different. They have to dress nice. In a suit and tie or just a pant suit. However, I am going to become apart of the Sigma Alpha sorority, and they are a business sorority. You have certain occasions where you have to be in a nice clothing. So to conclude, I already dress like my parents.
I propose that the person reading this proposal should imagine that their feet are in a mountain stream: When I think of a stream alone, I think of peace. There is so much peace just listening to the water run. But when you put your feet in it, you not only hear it, you feel it. You have a sensation of the water hitting your feet. This can reduce anxiety and depression, which is occurring within our world. Now, if you add a mountain to it, you have a lot of senses happening. It can be peaceful to most, but maybe overwhelming to others. You can see it, hear it, feel it, smell it. Some people, myself included, can not just sit and look out at the mountain while letting the water stream hit my feet. I need to go go go. But it is peaceful to hear it, and take a minute to realize that you do not always need to be on the move. It is a dilemma to me, but I have taken time to just relax and let the world around me as it is and allow me to see it has it is.
