I lost all fear of these when I found a combination of two things 1. I hatched one and got a better look at it. 2. The propulsion cannon can still yeet it
I find it highly amusing to hatch a bunch of these in alien containment. They are so small in there and if you get a maxed out tank they look like a super market crustacean tank. Then you take one out and release it and it's the size of the freaking multi purpose room.

I hate his creature, I really think it's the worst in the game. I always used the (500m) Degasi Habitat to get to the lost river, and I always got flashed like 3 times on the way..
The freakiest aspect of these things is their eyes, I swear... they always seem to be staring at *you*, not just the player. Then there's the 10 arms with knife-like points, and the giant stomach... Yeah, only creatures in the game that genuinely disturb me. I avoid them like the plague, even more so than reapers.
Yey!My suggestion got turned into a video! Good job ! So my suggestion this time is a lore video on the flying stingray thingies that you see when you first get out-of the lifepod and when launching the rocket
Crabsquids HATE Most creatures and leviathans like bone sharks, sand sharks, reapers,Sea dragons,Pretty much everything except ghost rays and ghost leviathans
Me before watching the video: Great a video about the animals in subnautica, which are pretty well designed and interesting Me, after watching the video: This doesn't make sense at all. Me, after checking the wiki: The fans have no idea what they are doing Because practically every bit of information presented in the video not taken directly from in game is stupid, so I will just present my favorite of these: Game: Clearly states that crabsquid hunt small fast moving prey with its eyesight. Has a model with 4 eyes with a large field of vision and depth perception, clearly indicating that it uses its eyes for many things. Fans: It MaKeS ClIcKiNg NoIsEs So It ClEaRlY EcHoLoCaTeS aNd HaS BaD EyEsIgHt.
And you're just at the tip of the iceberg - there is a ton of information out there which contradicts each other with really no way of verifying what is true :) and regarding the eyesight of a crabsquid - they can easily have both, solid eyesight and echolocation as a lot of the areas they move around in would be too dark for them to only use vision to navigate.
@@TheLastBacon It doesn't seem to be to hard. It was really easy to find out a lot about it, from the data pads and the creatures this is based off. It has the anatomy of an octopus, except with the 10 limbs of a crab rather than the 8 of an octopus. It has a weak (at least compared to electric eels) electric burst probably from the same source (electrolytes). It communicates the same way hermit crabs do (based on the noise and that octopi do not make noises really). As for echolocation, as mentioned before the sounds made by crabsquids are probably made the same way as hermit crabs, by rubbing their legs together (since that have no shell), they would then need to pick up the echo. Aquatic invertabrates do this through statocysts. The statocyst of a crabsquid would need to be in the bulbous part of the creature (the segment that contains the stomach) much like an octopus. Octopuses already have notoriously bad hearing but in crabsquids this is compounded by the surrounding tissues (the jellyfish/ floater type sack around the bulbous part) further insulating the statocyst making it even harder to hear. Further the enviroments that contain the crabsquids are not significantly different to those that real octopuses do in the twilight zone, (that being said the twilight zone in subnautica has more light than the earths as kelp are able to grow in it). TL;DR The animals that inspired the Crabsquid don't have echolocation, Crabsquids appear to not have the hearing required for echolocation, and Crabsquids don't live in an enviroment where they would need echolocation (according to octopuses living at the same/deeper depths)
@@steggoraptor Well thank you for the interesting insight :) if they indeed took inspiration from real world animals - then what you're saying is probably right!

The first time I saw a crab squid was in the degasi base and it destroyed my seamoth so I drowned myself in the base because I was too scared to fight it
Imagine leaving your seamoth with the MK2 depth upgrade to explore the degasi habitat (at 1:48 mark ;), and then hearing "Warning: maximal crush depth reached, hull damage imminent." and you have to swim as fast as you fuckin can, because the crabsquid bumbed your seamoth, you get into the seamoth and rise to an acceptable level of depth and see that it only has 10 hp so you quickly go to the cave entrace to repair it and be safe, a crabsquid was actually following you the whole time though so you repair the seamoth as fast as you can FULLY FORGETTING THAT YOU HAVE HP IN THIS GAME and then dying with your orange tablet and cuddlefish egg, and the seamoth is like 1000 meters away, 500 meters below the surface and you are forced to go to your last save and do the same thing, only leaving your seamoth at the entrace and using the seaglide. there are 2 main reasons to disconsider them developing their EMP to defend against either the precursor or the warpers.

second, neither the warper nor the precursors went against them to the point of predatory. hell, the warpers would only attack the ones with the sickness, BUT at the same time, if they were sick they wouldnt be able to reproduce...
True :) it is most likely that they developed the EMP as a response to the ampeel - probably because it presents competition.
The main reasons were to hunt Jellyrays more easily, since they use bio-electricity, and to defend against Ampeels.

Crabsquids have been updated and can now crawl on sea beds like the one in the 3D trailer
That is quite cool indeed :)
Oh no
3:47 I’ve made that choice before...
Didn’t end well :(
Yeah they don't make the best neighbors :)
I lost all fear of these when I found a combination of two things 1. I hatched one and got a better look at it. 2. The propulsion cannon can still yeet it
Oh yeah, the propulsion cannon is really good against these :)
Also the cyclops with the shield active can kill these things in 2-3 hits
Literally uploaded about 2 days after in requested this.......nice
People request so I gotta deliver :)
The Last Bacon you should do one on the various biomes
@@noice_swiff That's a good suggestion :) I'll add it to my list!
bro i requested it in his dicord when he had 1.5k subs
I find it highly amusing to hatch a bunch of these in alien containment. They are so small in there and if you get a maxed out tank they look like a super market crustacean tank. Then you take one out and release it and it's the size of the freaking multi purpose room.
Haha yeah they look so cute when small :)
"GLUG GLUG GLUG"
I simply use my Cyclops to go full Rugby through them, Two Hits from that and they die
Great strategy :D
Sea treader leviathan lore, please.
They are indeed the next ones on the chopping block :)
“I fought a giant crab!”
“You know they have soap for that?”
Haha yep :) soap can kill even the biggest of crabs.
I always thought these were similar to the warper, a bio mechanical creature made by the precursors
I can definitely see why you'd think that :) but unfortunately (as far as we know) no....they evolved all by themselves.
The Last Bacon mainly to defend themselves from the Bio-Electrical attacks of the Ampeel, which resides in the big Blood Kelp Zone, alongside Crabsquids.
Crabsquid gave me thasselaphobia
Understandable :D
I hate his creature, I really think it's the worst in the game. I always used the (500m) Degasi Habitat to get to the lost river, and I always got flashed like 3 times on the way..
I wouldn't mind getting flahsed wink*
@@kevinfortin8240 damn
I feel you dude :) they always have the ability to pop up at the worst of times...
i use the bulb zone entrance
Gustaboy NoPlays I use all of the entrances
This guy has made soooo so so many lore videos and I love them all
Yay thank you! :)
Hey did you make a video about the hover fish
The subtitles for this tho
Yeah, I swear the subtitles on my vids are cursed :)
Protip: turning off your lights in your vehicle can make crabsquids spot you less
Thank you for the tip! :)
@@TheLastBacon by the way you’re doing absolutely amazing at connecting with your audience and I really hope people recognize you more
Below zero drops tomorrow me:
Oh yeah yeah
The freakiest aspect of these things is their eyes, I swear... they always seem to be staring at *you*, not just the player. Then there's the 10 arms with knife-like points, and the giant stomach... Yeah, only creatures in the game that genuinely disturb me. I avoid them like the plague, even more so than reapers.
Oh I definitely agree :) it's like they're staring into your soul!
Can u do the crab snake ?
I definitely plan to :)
I've never played this but crab squids still scare the hell outa me
Well they look freakier than they are dangerous :) ....but they sure as hell give good jumpscares.
Alpha peeper lore.. Do it.
Well technically, there already is a peeper lore vid and I do mention the alpha peeper :D
Also there isn't much info on the alpha peeper.
What about Alterra lore?
Yey!My suggestion got turned into a video! Good job ! So my suggestion this time is a lore video on the flying stingray thingies that you see when you first get out-of the lifepod and when launching the rocket
Glad you liked it :) I'll try looking into the stingrays in the future - nut sure how much info I'll be able to find though.
Wow... Can someone tell me where can I find a crab squid plz
It should be mentioned right after the spoiler warning :)
Grand Reef and the Lost River mainly. I haven't found them anywhere else.
@@glitchii_uwu Really? I've never seen one in the lost river, they must be kinda rare in there.
@@jazzling They spawn at the entrance of the Lost River connected to the Blood Kelp Trench.
@@glitchii_uwu There are also some in the North Blood Kelp Zone.
Crabsquids HATE Most creatures and leviathans like bone sharks, sand sharks, reapers,Sea dragons,Pretty much everything except ghost rays and ghost leviathans
Yep - they certainly do! :)
Me before watching the video: Great a video about the animals in subnautica, which are pretty well designed and interesting
Me, after watching the video: This doesn't make sense at all.
Me, after checking the wiki: The fans have no idea what they are doing
Because practically every bit of information presented in the video not taken directly from in game is stupid, so I will just present my favorite of these:
Game: Clearly states that crabsquid hunt small fast moving prey with its eyesight.
TL;DR
The animals that inspired the Crabsquid don't have echolocation, Crabsquids appear to not have the hearing required for echolocation, and Crabsquids don't live in an enviroment where they would need echolocation (according to octopuses living at the same/deeper depths)
@@steggoraptor Well thank you for the interesting insight :) if they indeed took inspiration from real world animals - then what you're saying is probably right!
The most adorable creature in the game
Ehhh not sure about that one :)
Can u plz do a ghost ray lore there are so many of them and they are in the lost River and the lava biome they are so beautiful.
That's a good suggestion :) I'll put it on my list but not sure when I'll be able to take a look at it because Below Zero is coming out!
Ok thank you :)
*This fella makes coconut crabs look like a crippled Mr Krabs*
Lol accurate :)
This is some weird hentai
Very weird :D
I named all the Crabsquids "Brad" just so I can say, "check out the big brain on Brad!"
Solid as far as names go :)
Yeess new video
Hope you like it! :)
For some reason I encountered one of these in the kelp forest. It attacked me after I got hypnotized by a Mesmer.
That is a weird place to encounter one.....perhaps it just got lost :)
The Last Bacon maybe.
Bro what u talking bout I nearly CRABED myself when I saw it
Edit: see what I did there :D
I definitely appreciate a good pun :)
i think i indirectly extincted the species by accidentally ramming into them with my reinforced sea moth wherever i went. They were just in my way ALL THE TIME. I haven't seen ANY after a while.
Oof, one species less I suppose :)
The first time I saw a crab squid was in the degasi base and it destroyed my seamoth so I drowned myself in the base because I was too scared to fight it
Oof unfortunate encounter :)
Jeez, dude, This is becoming my favourite series on youtube.
Aww :) you'll make me blush!
It appeared suddenly by the degasi base
There are a few there true :)
Why do I fear this thing so much
Understandable :D
I JUST RAN INTO ONE LIKE RIGHT NOW
Did you survive? :)
The Last Bacon yes
i was driving straight down to the "yu's escape pod" and i got there saw one of those and then saved and alt-f4ed
A fully understandable reaction :)
It doesn’t look nightmareish it looks like a shrimp with big brain
That sounds quite nightmarish to me :D
So that was my first death thanks to these cunts, hbu?
Yeah that definitely doesn't sound very pleasant :)
Was exploring the world and looked up to see a crabsquid about to jump on me, my heart raced so fast
Oof, that probably wasn't pleasant :)
first time i found a crabssquid i wondered why he wasnt aggressive
turns out it was because i wasnt using anything that emits light
Oh that makes sense :)
Crabsquid: you have forfeited your electrical privileges
Haha yep :) electricity is no more!
