I remember a couple of years ago Todd in the Shadows said in his review of Little Dicky's "Earth" that he would start a charity to help Dicky find a second joke other than penis. This album being named Penith makes me want to investigate Todd to find out where the money went.

If you can only appreciate one selection of art in the context of another, it's not good art. Good art stands up on its own without being propped up by something else.
Lil Dicky needs to make more songs like Russel Westbrook on a farm or Molly. He’s shown an ability to rap really well in his freestyles on Sway and Westwood but his comedy songs don’t translate to full albums.
Have you watched his successful tv show? This is literally the show soundtrack and not a new album

The album is better in context of the show. As a stand alone I can understand where Anthony is coming from, however…the show is amazing and some of the songs put you back into certain episodes and combining them together makes it not as awful.
If you HAVENT seen Dave, watch it. Amazing show.
People can be good at one thing and bad at the other thing, see The Weeknd for the opposite example.
Exactly, it's clear fantano didn't watch the show because even Penith is a reference to a pre character development idea he had. It's just a soundtrack not a real album, although I don't think he would have rated an actual ld album any better
While the show is great and i honestly think he's better as a writer/producer, seeing it become an actual product almost taints it in a sense. If you've seen the whole show, this album is essentially just its soundtrack and the last couple of seasons detail the conception of this album as well as the writer's block and issues he faced before he created it. I don't have to listen to it cause it's the same shit over and id rather just rewatch the show. The production for the haha video was amazing though but it ties into the show again with Gator's appearance. was the show just one massive over-the-top production rollout for penith? probably.

I’ve always respected Lil Dicky for really going for his comedic take on hip-hop. Even if you don’t like it at least he’s trying something different. Dave is actually a very funny show and has some really heart warming moments. It’s just evident to me that once he went for 3 seasons of Dave, his career as a rapper would never take off. Penith isn’t only lazy since it’s the soundtrack to a show that’s been out for years, it’s also repetitive and not an entertaining listen. I like maybe 2 songs off this and even then I can’t add them to my rotation.
I listened to Dickys first mixtape which is still probably some of his best stuff. There’s a type of hungry earnestness you hear from him. Now he just sounds meandering and downright stupid.

You know what's crazy is one of the only Lil Dicky songs I can tolerate is about how he pushed away his dream relationship with a girl because he wanted to pursue his rap career and it was too hard to do that and still give attention to his girlfriend. I mean he has been crazy successful but yeah I don’t know how much of this is a worthwhile endeavor so far. Molly is straight up a fire song too and shows that he can actually make good shit when he isn’t making jokes about his apparently small dick. Supposedly “Dave” is pretty good (which this is I guess the soundtrack). How the fuck he got Rachel McAdams for a multi-episode arc shows that he must be doing something right although I just don’t know what the fuck that is.

I stopped paying attention to this critic long ago. Now having enjoyed the song and the tracks on it I was pleased to see its release. Curiosity got the best if me to see what he thought... Yup, I shouldn't have bothered. Lil Dicky, great fkn album. "Harrison Ave" is a banger. Don't pay no mind to a guy who shits on Eminem every chance he gets.

It's a combination of him doing the same content over, and over, and over, and over, and over again + the fact that Lil Dicky's gimmicks as an artist won't hit you the same after the third album. But yeah he sounds super low energy
