I started reading _The Wretched of the Earth,_ but with my very limited knowledge of the work's context, I found it difficult to fully absorb it. This video is an excellent introduction to the work. Thank you so much.
Madam, this the first time I encountered your online lecture. Though, I new the author and his works while I was in the university at my degree level in sociology. Now I’m done with masters on foreign soil(Algeria) in sociology of education. Waiting to move further to my PhD by God grace. Frankly, your precise teaching style is an inspiration and beacon of hope to we middle age academicians. Keep going I will be following. Thank you ma’am, thank you very much. Soon I will watch the next by God grace. Thank you once again.
Frantz Fanon is regarded as a foundational thinker of Postcolonial Studies, bringing together the analysis of colonialism from an objective, historical perspective and an interrogation of its subjective effects on colonizer and colonized alike.
Hi mam Really I am surprised in your soft and spontaneous overflow of language .ohh how much sweet and cool when you are uttering the words .I wl always waiting for you ..thanks lot .
You couldn't understand how much am I happy, after listening your lecture... this is the bestest of the best lecture which I found in your world. Thank you so so so so much ma'am, and I wish your channel will uplift very soon 🌻
this book should be read by every Indian teenager or youth, just like BR Ambedkars book Annihilation Of The Caste. Fundamental to understand the treachery of white colonization and India's Hindu Caste Apartheid. That is what makes Indias Wretched of The Earth. Thanks for making this lecture...
Wretched of the Earth do not fall under the genre of novel rather its more like a literary narrative which speaks about colonialism and anti colonial movements
The book is not outdated it's still a fine piece of reference ...u can work on the themes like colonialism racism, violence etc ...also the importance of the book in contemporary scenario wud be a gud try
That's a wonderful comment ..yes ofcourse we need to decolonise ....but how ...shud we reclaim our past...is that possible ...we all have been trying to do that all these years but still we are where we started ....inbetween the past and future there is "present"...we all often forget to live and embrace the present... it's not easy to decolonise bcoz the impact of colonialism has influenced our very thoughts even ...but yes we can... a true nationalist who has passion love for his country and countrymen can do it...let's also do the little bit whatever we can by educating our kids ..letting them understand the value of traditions, morals, nationhood, oneness etc
For me the book is vital in so many ways, who has moral claim to violence, how can we gain true freedom. But for me, what is more interesting is the absence of any introspection on patriarchy, there is no consideration whatsoever of any feminist voice. I would love to know what you think about this.
Yes I agree with u the voice of women are not much portrayed by fanon in the wretched of the Earth . He speaks about the psychological trauma and mental disorders which the algerians had to undergo under colonialism in chapter 5. There he speaks about women who were raped, killed and those who were subjected to various other violence by the colonial powers . Other than that fanon ponders less on patriarchy and women .
@@ShadesOfLiterature Thanks for posting! And I agree, for me this is where Fanon falls down, I think when thinking of colonial violence and decolonisation we should try to centre the most marginalised voices. From my post of view those are usually women, but I guess Fanon was writing a bit before intersectionality became popularised. It is interesting that scholars he cites are almost all men. I guess for me the shortcomings in the book are the same as a lot of society right now, women need to be heard more! Thanks for your video!
@@rich6588 yes ofcourse women need to be heard more .☺️ even the very psyche of human kind was dominated by patriarchal norms. And wen it comes to fanon this could be a great point which we can critically analyse ...thanks a lot for ur response
