I can't believe Madonna wasn't even nominated for Best Short Form Music Video for Dark Ballet or God Control or Crave ou even Medellin. WTF Madame X era is a serve- Madame X is a Masterpiece!!
The only one that could have arguably been worthy was God Control. Medellin was bizarre. The latin-lite track is breezy and soft which clashed with the music videos bizarre story of a woman "beaten and abused" running from her own wedding with an eye patch. The whole thing felt disjointed and random, which is a shame, the song is sweet. Dark Ballet is an awful song, easily her worst. The only thing more self indulgent than the lyrics is the music video. Over-the-top, campy in a bad way, this video is difficult to watch through to the end. And not because of its "graphic" content. Because its corny and lacks any subtlety or nuance. She is literally beating us over the head with the message. It felt like something that is trying to pose as art, but isn't really. It felt like a propaganda piece. Crave is my favorite track from the entire album, and its also my favorite video. She looks gorgeous, the story is so so sweet, and Swae Lee's vocals are perfect here. But do I think it deserves to be awarded the best music video of 2019. Sadly, no. Its just a pretty video to what is easily her best song on Madame X. God Control, for all its blatant messaging, is still a great video. Yes, Madonna comes off as some superior being overseeing the chaos, again a bit self righteous and self indulgent, but she looks amazing, the video is wholly entertaining, and it is such an important message. Do I think its the best video of the year? No. But I could understand it being nominated.

'Batuka' was written by Madonna Ciccone, her son David Banda and Mirwais Ahmadzaï, and produced by Madonna and Mirwais. Madonna usually writes all or most lyrics, composes vocal melodies and, depending on the song, co-composes the instrumental. She wrote and produced over 300 songs (some of which are unreleased). As for the rest, it's a collaboration like all artists do.
Madame X videos are beautiful and have a strong message they deserve a lot more views than the ones they have. Seeing the Batukadeiras live during the Madame X Tour was unbelievable the spirit of joy and passion that they transmit to the people that saw the show.

She is focusing on creating a thing that would reflect a time, that's what makes this album unique. You will be able to listen to it in 30 years and it will allow you to reflect, to remember the music and to make a connection between what will be playing on the radio at that time. Also this album has major Portugal music influence, like fado. This is very uncommon not only for the Madonna fan-base but also for people who play mostly North-American/UK music.

Even though I love the idea of the song and the female energy it exudes, it lacks warmth. The sounds are generic (EDM is messy, cheap, unsophisticated, and generic dance), and the vocals don’t sound organic, authentic, or intimate, which contradicts the whole theme (intimacy, strength, and spirituality between wise women). Generally, Madonna hasn’t focused on her voice since Confessions, and it shows. She would sound better if she finally stopped the overproduction and studio manipulation, focusing instead on her legendary lower and mid-register, which she used masterfully on "American Life" to juxtapose the raw, electronic, and minimal production. The back and forth between her and the chants is rather repetitive and boring. There’s just not enough to keep the audience interested. The song also needed a melodic bridge or midsection (she used to write the best mid-parts and bridges in her songs), and a bit of lyrical storytelling wouldn’t have harmed anyone. There’s literally no emotional climax or journey to follow. There’s a general disconnect in Madonna’s music now, contrary to the emotionality, honesty, warmth, and intimacy of her earlier work. Even her dance music used to have that warmth, sensuality, intimacy, and charisma. It almost feels like she’s on autopilot and doesn’t want to feel anymore. I’m neither from the UK nor the US, so I know and listen to World Music (which this is a very poor attempt at). Just wanted to clarify something. Madonna was the one to do it because before this, barely anyone in the states knows what Cape Verde is unless you're from New England. She's had a connection to Cape Verde since the 90's as she was a fan of our most famous singer, Cesaria Evora. I'm glad she made this video and bring awareness not only to our history but now we've been exposed to a broader audience and now more people in America should know about Cape Verde. Hopefully it opens doors for native Cape Verdean artists here in the states. The video was dope but it in no way sounds like a real batuque song, definitely a Madonna song with an African twist.

Madonna usually writes all or most lyrics, composes vocal melodies and, depending on the song, co-composes the instrumental. She wrote and produced over 300 songs (some of which are unreleased).
As for the rest, it's a collaboration like all artists do.

@@firouz256 It has a theme, it's contemporary, it does not lay on overproduced music neither is radio friendly. It approaches pop music of the moment without being stubborn. She is focusing on creating a thing that would reflect a time, that's what makes this album unique. You will be able to listen to it in 30 years and it will allow you to reflect, to remember the music and to make a connection between what will be playing on the radio at that time. Also this album has major Portugal music influence, like fado. This is very uncommon not only for the Madonna fan-base but also for people who play mostly North-American/UK music.

This is literally just an expensive visual fuckery to promote her tour!
Even though I love the idea of the song and the female energy it exudes, it lacks warmth. The sounds are generic (EDM is messy, cheap, unsophisticated, and generic dance), and the vocals don’t sound organic, authentic, or intimate, which contradicts the whole theme (intimacy, strength, and spirituality between wise women).
Generally, Madonna hasn’t focused on her voice since Confessions, and it shows. She would sound better if she finally stopped the overproduction and studio manipulation, focusing instead on her legendary lower and mid-register, which she used masterfully on "American Life" to juxtapose the raw, electronic, and minimal production.
The back and forth between her and the chants is rather repetitive and boring. There’s just not enough to keep the audience interested. The song also needed a melodic bridge or midsection (she used to write the best mid-parts and bridges in her songs), and a bit of lyrical storytelling wouldn’t have harmed anyone. There’s literally no emotional climax or journey to follow.
There’s a general disconnect in Madonna’s music now, contrary to the emotionality, honesty, warmth, and intimacy of her earlier work. Even her dance music used to have that warmth, sensuality, intimacy, and charisma. It almost feels like she’s on autopilot and doesn’t want to feel anymore.
I’m neither from the UK nor the US, so I know and listen to World Music (which this is a very poor attempt at).
As for the comment that "this album has major Portuguese music influence, like Fado," I can’t even believe you typed that!

Just wanted to clarify something. Madonna was the one to do it because before this, barely anyone in the states knows what Cape Verde is unless you're from New England. She's had a connection to Cape Verde since the 90's as she was a fan of our most famous singer, Cesaria Evora. I'm glad she made this video and bring awareness not only to our history but now we've been exposed to a broader audience and now more people in America should know about Cape Verde. Hopefully it opens doors for native Cape Verdean artists here in the states. The video was dope but it in no way sounds like a real batuque song, definitely a Madonna song with an African twist.
