It is better to have a guilty person outside than having an innocent person in prison. I can't even imagine that horror and pain that these people went through and my heart is breaking to hear these stories. Those years can never be given back to those people and their families.
That is also a big fear of mine, being accused wrongly.. One time my brother called me in panic asking what I have done, it was a Sunday noon, I was in my pjs and I thought he was messing with me. He said “you killed someone with the car?” and he was crying.. I froze, even if it was a Saturday night, I had exams coming so I spent all evening studying and went to bed. So I immediately opened my cam to prove I m home in my pjs 1600 Km away. He said police called and they had my ID and details. I live in Central Europe, but I m from South Europe, I had recently visited my hometown so I immediately started looking my National ID which I never use cause I use my local one where I live, thinking I might lost it at my hometown and someone used it trying to frame me. After speaking with my brother we realised it was an attempt to extort money, they didn’t have my ID, my mom panicked when she heard a girl cry at the phone and she gave all my details without realizing it, they asked for money as standard process and she said yes, she didn’t think at all clearly but she panicked and it’s understandable.
It's infuriating what they did to George Toca. They did the same thing to the West Memphis 3. They had to sign an Alford Plea which robbed them of everything they were entitled to.
Love these stories! Clearly, our justice system is terrifying. Nobody can feel confident they won't be on death row one day. No one is safe from the threat of being wrongfully accused and convicted of a crime they didn't commit.
Unfortunately this happens at All levels...yes we know that theres A Drastic Number of people being put in the system and don't get out!Why should we have to prove our Innocence from behind bars?Once you've been placed there they (police, attorney generals, judges, security guards etc....)say,"Everyone in prison says they're innocent ha...fall in line!"Just a terrible injustice on innocent human beings 😢GOD HELP US ALL🙏
Every wrongfully convicted person should reap financial benefits. Unfortunately not all states have that to offer and are forced to sue under other terms.
Unfortunately you can’t sue PA either or many other states. Most are thankful with their freedom and happy to be on the outside. That’s their honest opinion on it.
Does anyone realize how many wrongful convictions begin from a wide conspiracy? It’s scary. The false confession’s break my heart. I’ve seen people show detectives videos of how they obtained a false confession. And, they adamantly denied it. It’s evil at the highest levels.
I’m honestly starting to believe most law enforcement especially in America is pure evil. Seriously. It’s a use vs them mentality they have and everyone they come into contact with is guilty until proven innocent. I truly believe we’re living in a 21st century version of nahhhhhhseeeee Germany…..: which is absolutely terrifying.
The justice system has failed me too!!! Thankfully not on this scale, but this doesn’t surprise me. My divorce attorney forged a DocuSign document on my behalf WITHOUT my consent & lost custody of my son, had to sell my house & the proceeds from that sale… I was court ordered to pay my cheating ex wife’s attorney fees. I definitely see how people snap.
I TRULY wish that I could help you, and people like you who have gone through all of the injustice. I had a "public attorney" once, and she really didn't care.
I love the innocence project. I believe in their noble undertaking. At the risk of putting up ‘spam’ can I point out that Amazon Smile will make small donations to the charity of your choice when you make a purchase. The innocence project is my selected charity. Thanks for the great video.
24:43 I've seen cases where nobody cared about freeing an innocent man, especially prosecutors and cops. They have absolute proof that someone they helped convict is innocent yet they _still_ deny it and fight to keep them in prison.
imagine how many innocent men & women were put to death over the years.... can you imagine- like really put yourself there. Being strapped down, read your last rights, and know that in a few moments you will be taking your last breath because they are killing you for something you did not do!!? That's the ultimate human betrayal one person could put upon another person... So so sad
This is freak me out, Lots of innocent men’s and woman’s in jail for crime that they not commit. The system filed them and it’s so sad, but at the end it’s happy ending. Vanessa, her team and her family is my No1❤ they have a big heart.❤ bless you and god always protect you in any way.❤
I am blown away by Barry's courage and determination to survive, seek justice and then fight for a comfortable life free from the demons that were imposed on him. The Innocence Project is such a worthwhile organization. Finally, those sisters are as kind as they are talented. May their lives be filled with the reaped rewards of their kindness.
Yeah. What an amazing moment. Especially to be caught on camera. I can’t believe he was convicted after a schizophrenic mentally ill man in a mental hospital who was the actual murderer who was under hypnosis after changing his story tons of times over a five-year period was how he was convicted, especially after the DA drop the charges on all four of the other ones and he was the only one to be charged. I’d like to know if the DA or leading investigator had a personal vendetta against this guy in one fashion or another.. our judicial system is so freakin broken it’s frightening. Idk how a jury could hear this and think he’s guilty. Just insane and sad all around.
Makes you wonder just how many innocent people have been wrongly accused and jailed, they just love to close a case, as for no compensation that is so very wrong
I have seen so much corruption in law enforcement, prosecutors and judges I have absolutely no faith whatsoever in the justice system. Prosecutors are suppose to make sure they are not prosecuting any case where there is the possibility that the person is innocent but most of them are working towards a goal of 100% conviction rate of the highest number of cases. They don't actually care if you are innocent. They will do anything to get you to take a plea on a case you did not have anything to do with. Judges are suppose to be the gate keeper. To oversea what law enforcement has done and what the prosecutor is proceeding with. But they are sitting there waiting for the case to end and rubber stamp it. From warrants that never should have been signed off to locking up innocent people. No such thing as justice in The USA.
If there were to be a picture definition of upstanding people it would be these people that make up the Innocence Project. Bravo to all of them. Bravo.
After seeing the Michael Morton story.. the man in Texas, who went to work one morning, and being arrested for the brutal murder of his wife, when he got off.. it is impossible to not realize this can happen to anyone. A prosecutor, a sheriff… who absolutely have no regard for the truth, the next thing he knows, he is serving a life without parole sentence….. and miraculously 25 years later, these beautiful people help him get his freedom.. I can never watch a story like Barry’s…. Without a tear in my eye… it is so wrong.. and it happens way more than people realize. The innocence project is doing God’s work, you can’t help but to love them 💙
It really angers me that these people cannot receive any compensation. They don't have to receive millions, but should receive enough to start over. To pay for transportation and a place to live at the very least. Jim is fortunate to have a family and a marketable skill, one that doesn't require physical labor, but there are many who don't. It's very sad.
When people ask why do innocent people run this is why. I’m not going to be a test subject for change so I rather be on the run to prove my innocence. Innocent until proven guilty? More like guilty until proven innocent.
appreciation to the INNOCENCE PROJECT/COMMITTEE. For allllllllll those who are no longer behind bars INNOCENTLY congrats to u peace n the ability to cope in this world. Imagine having to sign a decree with some state that u are guilty when u are INNOCENT simply bcuz of wicked laws where the state does not want to COMPENSATE THE VICTIM.. How evil is that? Can that ever be regarded as freedom? This is deplorable! May victory come quickly for the many other INNOCENT ones whose cases have NOT been heard.
1:20:38 This story is the most heart wrenching! 34 years I can't even imagine thank you project for your hard diligence and persistence! I believe the exonerative Initiative will help like this too! 😊
Loved this story, the best of its kind. WHY wasn't Barry awarded IMMEDIATE compensation the minute he stepped out of jail? He was totally destitute, he could have died through sheer neglect! That was another death sentence!
Amazing work and amazing men, really this show gives me back faith in God's justice that sometimes takes time to manifest itself, but is inexorable! it is remarkable that Innocence Project doesn't charge those they defend! I think this is absolutely honorable and that's the way it should be, because justice shouldn't be possible only for those who can pay for it! The personal relationship that develops between the attorneys and these men is amazing! This is really God's work on earth! thank you for making this world a better place! I pray that Alan can fulfill his dream to study law and help other people in the same predicament and I pray for George's healing for the shameful crime of imposing a confession on him to avoid paying for compensation. Shame upon shame!!!
This is so heartbreaking… & these lawyers helping are truly angels on earth .. the mental toll on the inmates incarcerated unjustly & the lawyers I can’t imagine ❤
I hope the innocent project sees this! You guys are the greatest and angels from heaven and you don’t even realize it! God is happy with you all!!!!!!!
The Innocence Project team are doing a fantastic job. They need to recruit more attorneys/lawyers to speed up and solve all eligible backlog requests (250 new requests per month) who are in desperate need of justice and exoneration. Time is of the essence for innocent people who have been wrongfully convicted and locked up for decades.
So glad he got a few years to enjoy his truly deserved compensation and found some happiness Well done to all the great people who supported him God bless you
The last case is extra hard, because he had to plea guilty to be released what a cruel system yeah it freed him, but he will always have the guilty plea hanging over his head .😏
So glad Barry got compensated finally! He got cured of prostate & colon cancer, wow! Glad you could enjoy senior years Barry! Is he still doing good? 2025 will be 20 yrs released! 🙏❤️. Alan, just so proud of him, he got a scholarship & graduated, very smart man, to do studies in prison was such a good thing to do. Hope he gets his compensation, wish him & his family, brothers lots of happiness, health & love & success in life. ❤. George’s story got to me pretty badly, after all those years & detectives knew he was innocent when the lawyers showed them their case I think is why they offered that DISGUSTING plea offer they knew then they don’t lose face but George loses 40 yrs & he is a convicted felon, so wrong. Is why I’m so glad George was smart & ambitious & is doing so well. Keep doing all that makes you happy George, wish him much success & happiness and good health & a wonderful love! 🤗❤️🙏
Benjamin Franklin stated it as: "it is better 100 guilty Persons should escape than that one innocent Person should suffer". How did our justice system goes so far off of the rails compared to its original intent?
I would REALLY like to become a part of The Innocence Program. To fight for people. I am currently enrolled in college, in a paralegal program. After I graduate from that, I want to keep going, and take Criminal Justice.
Jails don't make money unless they "fill beds." The jailers go to the judge and say we have ten beds available. That is why the judge ignores the Constitution and sets excessive bail and your Right to a speedy trial. Also, they say it's an honor to be on a jury, but why? The judge tells the jury to follow the law, but why do they need to take 12 people out of their busy lives, sit them in a room, and have them nod to each other, "well, the law says he's guilty, we must find him guilty." The judge can just do that himself. No, it's called Jury Nullification! It is an honor to be on a jury because in the United States the People are in charge! When someone goes on trial that law also goes on trial. The jury can change that one law, not every law, but that one law-- if they feel it's a bad law! That is why it's such an honor!!
All of these stories are so sad, but Alan’s story had me crying so hard! It’s ridiculous that he still hasn’t gotten his money for what they did to him! 💔
So...Barry got no money when he got out of prison after spending 20 years there? This is disgusting, unbelievable, wrong. We as a society have to make sure we at least try to mitigate our system's mistakes.
I believe in our state eye witness testimony is not enough with corroborating evidence. Glad we have better tools. Now we need honest and truly thorough law enforcement. No tunnel vision. No corruption or courts and prosecutor who rely on revenue or conviction stats to get reelected. Equal funds to defense for lawyer and expert testimony.
How is the judge supposed to know?? He makes his decision based on evidence.. he had a witness on the spot identifying him. For me is the witness, what kind of person you have to be to live 19 years knowing you sent an innocent man in prison? Okay, you were afraid at that moment, you were afraid one month later, one year later, but wtf if the cop was not arrested the man would have never told the truth. He slept every night knowing what he had done
@@annas4843 If any decisions were based in any way on any evidence there would be ZERO convictions of the innocent. What judges and courts are designed to do is get as many convictions as they can, they do not care that they are setting innocent people up, they're job is to get prosecutions, which just another reason why capitalism doesn't work.

The number of things that can go wrong in life without the person doing anything to cause it, makes me want to stay home and never venture out.
me too, makes me wanna just stay home with my cat everyday and never leave
Exactly!! Thank you Jesus for these lovely people!!!❤🙏🙌
IT makes ME, want to FIGHT BACK!!!
unfortunately you'll still be accused and worst of case, you'll be sleeping= no alibi
Just say your name and do I need a lawyer they've done that us ❤
I hadn’t ever ever seen a documentary as wonderful as this absolutely amazing you go ❤️❤️❤️
Omgoodness what brave men , these stories were so sad , but these men are just amazing! I hope they all live a beautiful rest of their lives ❤😊 thank you for sharing!
After seeing how the lives on earth these gentlemen were given,I pray they have most awesome eternal lives.
That's what I'd keep. God asks me to be born onto earth again, my full answer is NO!
to be believed by just one person when no one else wants to listen, oh the joy
💔 It's even more sad that he served his country & this was there way of showing appreciation!!
Tinks are you single?
Well done to the innocence project, what wonderful people!
True.
@@annas4843 did that happened in Serbia?
??????
What is your question @@Papa_Smurf82
Respect to every person who work this job!! May the Gods bless you 🙏
It's infuriating what they did to George Toca.
My heart goes to the project 🙏 Bless all of you
‘It can happen to anybody.’ So true.
Unfortunately this happens at All levels...yes we know that theres A Drastic Number of people being put in the system and don't get out!Why should we have to prove our Innocence from behind bars?Once you've been placed there they (police, attorney generals, judges, security guards etc....)say,"Everyone in prison says they're innocent ha...fall in line!"Just a terrible injustice on innocent human beings 😢GOD HELP US ALL🙏
This is an amazing group. I do believe there are too many innocent people in prison
Julian Assange, case in point. Never mudered nobody, his only crime was REVEALING crimes, just doing his job as a journalist.
Tony Newton gave all to his sibling..What a person he is. Bobby Thomas is what I called TRUE BLUE friend.
Every wrongfully convicted person should reap financial benefits. Unfortunately not all states have that to offer and are forced to sue under other terms.
and good luck suing someone/something tied to the justice system/government.. they all protect each other and are so corrupt :/
Yes - 🦅☀️🦅👵🏽✌🏾
Unfortunately you can’t sue PA either or many other states. Most are thankful with their freedom and happy to be on the outside. That’s their honest opinion on it.
@kathyborthwick6738 is areyou v v late are you v😂
A lot of them just release them, to be tried at a later date.
What a fantastic story❣️
Praise the Lord for the innocents project‼️
EVERY state should be forced to provide financial compensation to the wrongfully convicted!!! I think our founding fathers would agree with me!!
maybe u ask trump ?
not to mention the fbi, which is the largest culprit on these trespasses
@@heyuhmwellbye4261 maybe I just let you go to jail??
@@iloveTRUMP Trump wants to put all the innocent people in jail so he can rule over a country of criminals.
Sure, but I wouldn't trust boasting Orange Conmen!
the Innocence Project is such a blessing ...❤❤
The justice system has failed me too!!! Thankfully not on this scale, but this doesn’t surprise me. My divorce attorney forged a DocuSign document on my behalf WITHOUT my consent & lost custody of my son, had to sell my house & the proceeds from that sale… I was court ordered to pay my cheating ex wife’s attorney fees. I definitely see how people snap.
Why do people seem to think programs like this are an invite to tell ur own tale of woe? It's about them, not you
Um...file a BAR complaint.
I TRULY wish that I could help you, and people like you who have gone through
all of the injustice. I had a "public attorney" once, and she really didn't care.
@@georginacat7667 Don’t be so horrible.

I love the innocence project. I believe in their noble undertaking. At the risk of putting up ‘spam’ can I point out that Amazon Smile will make small donations to the charity of your choice when you make a purchase. The innocence project is my selected charity. Thanks for the great video.
Thank you for that information! I'll be sure to change my charity asap.
24:43 I've seen cases where nobody cared about freeing an innocent man, especially prosecutors and cops. They have absolute proof that someone they helped convict is innocent yet they _still_ deny it and fight to keep them in prison.
I'm one of those people
See my post
for the $$$$
God bless the people that work on the innocence project. Thank you for stepping up🫶
I hope that Pennsylvania has changed its laws on compensating wrongly convicted people.
That STUNNED me, how can they justify that?
kind of devastating to know how little our leaders value a life.
@colorbugoriginals4457 theirs don't matter either.
imagine how many innocent men & women were put to death over the years.... can you imagine- like really put yourself there. Being strapped down, read your last rights, and know that in a few moments you will be taking your last breath because they are killing you for something you did not do!!? That's the ultimate human betrayal one person could put upon another person... So so sad
Shocking
This is freak me out, Lots of innocent men’s and woman’s in jail for crime that they not commit. The system filed them and it’s so sad, but at the end it’s happy ending. Vanessa, her team and her family is my No1❤ they have a big heart.❤ bless you and god always protect you in any way.❤
Saved the best for last... George Toca
Just when I think the world is so heartless, I watch this and it changed my mind
I would LOVE to be a part of this team. I am so passionate on this subject
@@fairmaiden6472 what's your experience in the job
It must be a heavy burden working for the Innocence Project…straight up earth angels.
Absolutely too much backlog, much more dedicated staff and resources needed.
That bird landing on Jim Fogles hand is something else
Yes it is. I caught that too.
This men lost half of their lives in prisons. Injustice . Thank you from me
It's not just men either
Great, great respect to the officers of the Innocence Project ..❤
The blood sweat & tears of the Innocent Network Attorneys deserve to be bottled... such AMAZING PEOPLE!
It is horrifying to me that are justice system is so corrupt.
I always find it so hard to believe that all these "guilty" criminals admit their crimes to their cell mate, etc. Please.
Makes you wonder just how many innocent people have been wrongly accused and jailed, they just love to close a case, as for no compensation that is so very wrong
God bless Barry Sheck and all the attorneys at Innocence Project!! You guys rock! ❤
All they innocent people and to think what they have went through is heart breaking .happy to see how they have been freed and are doing well .
When people ask why do innocent people run this is why. I’m not going to be a test subject for change so I rather be on the run to prove my innocence. Innocent until proven guilty? More like guilty until proven innocent.
I love how compassionate the attorneys are at the innocence project! ❤️
More videos like this please
I know this was a hard hard experience for this man 34 wow Thank you ppl who helped this man🎉
God bless you Barry! God bless The Innocence Network!
appreciation to the INNOCENCE PROJECT/COMMITTEE.
Going from heartbreaking to heart warming. Wholesome af
The Innocence Project is an extremely Important Project.
There's one innocent man serving a life in prison, now, Today!!!
An innocent man is serving life in prison, Today !! What can be done??
God bless The innocence project
Yes they gave him a decent compensation but holy crap I would rather not have the money and have 20 years of my life back than live in jail
George Toca🌹
Shame on the corrupt toxic injust system.
So glad he got a few years to enjoy his truly deserved compensation and found some happiness
Well done to all the great people who supported him
God bless you
The last case is extra hard, because he had to plea guilty to be released what a cruel system yeah it freed him, but he will always have the guilty plea hanging over his head .😏
The first words out of my mouth, once they let me go, in front of all the cameras, "I am innocent, THE SYSTEM MADE ME PLEAD GUILTY".
I read Barry died in 2018.He died a free man
You guys are the best
So Beautiful is your new family. ... My God and so Beautiful are you Barry ! What a great story.
Benjamin Franklin stated it as: "it is better 100 guilty Persons should escape than that one innocent Person should suffer".
How did our justice system goes so far off of the rails compared to its original intent?
I would REALLY like to become a part of The Innocence Program. To fight for people. I am currently
enrolled in college, in a paralegal program. After I graduate from that, I want to keep going, and take Criminal Justice.
Mil gracias por compartir
Thank God for The innocents projects
Great stories
All of these stories are so sad, but Alan’s story had me crying so hard! It’s ridiculous that he still hasn’t gotten his money for what they did to him! 💔
Thank you
What an extraordinary man… God really touched you
FANTASTIC!!!
So...Barry got no money when he got out of prison after spending 20 years there? This is disgusting, unbelievable, wrong. We as a society have to make sure we at least try to mitigate our system's mistakes.
They need to make the judges, lawyers, and jurours pay the compensation, seeing as they are actually the criminals.
Those judges murdered their souls more than their bodies. Sad
Thank YOU !!!!!! Innocence Project for your Service.
I m not rich, but is there any contribution, people like me could make to be of some assistance....
