the main lights are (T10) bigger bulbs and the small lights are T5 bulbs...you can change the color on ebay with different bulbs///// and also the blue ends ones 6:25 (T5 bulbs) you can replace them as well with a needle nose pliers the bulbs wiggle out ( be careful as the bulbs will shatter with too much force) but the do come out of the base and you slide a nice LED T5 bulb right in.... some leds are too dark so order a few different sets ..I have blue and green gauges as some were too dark to see but play around with them and have a nice dash color...
Robert DIY I've installed my LED's today and it's looking very nice, the colour goes from green more to a lights green/blue, but still works nicely! If you would like the more green display, you will have to put in a warmer shade of white, this way the instrument panel will colour green again (the filter in the panel creates the green like colour you see in your car. As the yellow light from the normal bulb hits the blue filter in the panel, the colour equals green. but if you put a colder white coloured LED in the panel, the light tents to pick up more of the blue colour from the filter. Red sounds kind of strange as the filter in the panel is blue, but maybe that is different in America. Also on a side note I would like to mention that the dimmer does work PERFECTLY! Just as it would on the standard bulbs. All in all this is definitely worth swapping the bulbs with LED's!
Great review. I am thinking of fitting alloy clock rings. Do you know if the clear plastic shroud comes off easy. Also do you think (other than the alternator) its better to replace the bulbs with LED's
hi i'm a fan of your turkey. the question I want to ask you to pull the airbag cable to disconnect the battery.because I was afraid of the air bag exploding
Hey Robert, I just put the cluster in my car and I got two different codes one is P0602 and the other is P1618 and my car was totally fine before I put this cluster in, I got a cheap reader and it wouldn’t clear the codes so I don’t know what to do now
Robert, thank you for the DIY videos. On the S70, I want to remove the faux wood trim the radio goes into, so I can mod it for a newer head unit. Can the trim be pulled without taking off the dash pad?
Not really, most single and double dim units fit in that hole. The wood trim is glued to the dash in a permanent way. I have seen people cover it with carbon fiber trim tape and stuff like that but it really is fixed. If you need a larger hole you will have to McGiver it.
to fit a double din unit just take a hack saw blade and cut the supports on the inside and the double unit will just silde right in..my alpine 404 slide right in but you'll never mount a factory radio again.. you can buy factory console parts on ebay or from Robert the consoles are all pieces so anything you break or damage you can replace with a few bolts/screws...
I recently learned that the wood grain on the x70 cars can be removed with a few screws on the back side of the dash. Have fun finding and removing those screws but it is possible.
Hey Robert, I am changing bulbs on my instrument cluster I know the larger ones are 501 wedge bulbs but I dont know what type the little ones are? Do they have a specific part code?
Help!! I tripped the SRS because I failed to disconnect the negative battery cable before service of the DIM. 2002 V70. How do I reset that message and the Orange Triangle Warning Light in center of console?
Robert do you know which plug goes to the trip computer on the cluster? 850 ones are different and I've undertaken the task of swapping a cluster from a 98 s70 into my 850 and I cannot get the trip computer to work.
What year is the 850? I believe that only works for the '96 and newer 850's. Also, was the trip computer in the S70 activated? If so, you should have swapped in the switch and small harness for that.
Pretty sure you do, since there are screws you need to remove there, but you probably don't *need* to disconnect the battery or your non-existent airbag
All my son's indications went out, gas , speed, etc 98 S70. The lights in the panel still work. Do you think I need the entire cluster? I'm thinking a fuse if so would just blow again. I have a Haines book and it showed a fuse on the back but didn't see one on yours.
Have a '97 850. The odometer, speedometer, tachometer, fuel and temp gauges have all stopped working. The clock works, and the warning lights all seem to work. I've checked the the electrical system and everything seems to be ok. Do you think the cluster has gone bad?
Hi Robert, my gauges and dash light. Go on and off. They mostly stay off but in extreme cold or heat they come on for a few minutes and then so out. If I push the reset button very hard they will pop back on. Any ideas?? 2002 V70 XC ocean race edition
Brad Boardwine The bulbs are very common and you should be able to get them at most auto parts stores. If not, let me know. Most Volvo parts suppliers sell them as well.
Hey Robert, if I were to take an instrument cluster from another car and put it in mine would the odometer read the same as it originally did in my car?
Thank you! I’ve watched almost all your videos on the P80 cars your videos are always super helpful, I have two 2000 v70xc’s and I love them (one is a parts car)
Robert DIY its a 1998 v70 t5 i took the battery to autozone and they said it was dead they are charging it now i don't know how it would of went dead but i hope that is it, thanks for the awesome video i needed the blue bulb sockets a few were missing in mine i went to the junk yard and got them out in under 15 minutes lol
I have my volvo for 7 years. Every problem you got a video for. You make it easy to own and repair my volvo for my self. Big thanks
You're welcome!
Robert is a hero ❤
thanks for watching.
A testament to the Volvo design engineers who made it so quick and easy to replace a simple instrument illumination bulb. Well done chaps!
Interesting.
Great informative video. I’m left with the thought that I’m glad Volvo reconfigured the dash on 2001 and later Volvos to make removal easier.
Interesting.
Your videos have helped me so much with my wife's 00 s70 thank you sir for making them
Glad to help

AwakeDude911 I have seen a couple of different options here, mostly people go red.

Glad you enjoyed it
Very well made video, clearly and well spoken 👏 👍 👌. Thanks alot!!
Glad you liked it!
you have to do all that to remove the cluster? I need to remove my abs light to pass inspection
+Steven Z you can fix the problem...
yeah buy buying a new abs unit or getting it rebuilt and wouldn't have it back in time for inspection due on the 1st
+Steven Z takes 3 days to get a module and 30 minutes to swap it out.
+Steven Z th-cam.com/video/0zV8nGeGukQ/w-d-xo.html
yeah for $800 which i do not have. Just going remove the light bulb. Or wire it to the low coolant light.
Great review. I am thinking of fitting alloy clock rings. Do you know if the clear plastic shroud comes off easy. Also do you think (other than the alternator) its better to replace the bulbs with LED's
yes, very easy.
Your are a great instructor
thanks
Good video very informative especially since i'm getting ready to do this very thing in the morning. Thanks

I don't even know what kind of car you have.
Robert DIY it’s a 2000 v70xc, the cluster I wanted to use is from a 99’ R
I'm going to try this today. Hopefully all goes well. Thanks Robert!
+Alex P It should be easy.
Robert DIY
It was! I ended up putting some LEDs as backlights in the cluster. They look really nice!

With a Volvo level OBD2 tool.

Thank you Robert! My car doesn't have an airbag on the passenger side. Do I still need to remove the glove box to remove the instrument panel?
I have no idea. Bring it by and I'll check for you.
Pretty sure you do, since there are screws you need to remove there, but you probably don't *need* to disconnect the battery or your non-existent airbag
Hi Robert, any idea how to remove the center console air vent? Thanks!
Bone tool or flat tip screw driver.
@@RobertDIY Hi, thanks for the reply. Just pry around the vent or are there some spots ?

Probably a bad ignition switch. Jiggle the key to see if things come back on.

So if i want to change lamps in the cluster i need to take the whole panel out? OMG! 😒
Ouch!
So I need a flat end screw driver and a 10mm and what else do I need
lol, Did you see the tool list at the beginning of the video?
Superbly helpful video, thank you Robert!

Quick question does anybody know if it is possible to swap a 99 volvo s70 cluster into an 97 850?
Sure, but it won't work
@@RobertDIY thanks, I figured
Exelent explanation !!!

Hey Robert! I have a 1997 volvo s70. My question is, will a instrument cluster from a 2000 volvo s/v70 work?
