It's always satisfying when your steak matches the blood red walls and decor!
My spirits always lift when I see James has dropped a review for us. The salad looked so enticing. I always appreciate when a restaurant chills the bowl and fork, along with ice cold Iettuce. Congrats on 30,000 subscribers! I sense this is a tipping point.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! Yeah, that salad was a nice start to my dinner.
James, that place looked perfect to me. Such a classic NYC Steakhouse vibe. The food looked amazing as well. I couldn't help but notice the large format bottles of Opus sitting atop the wine glass cabinet. Man I sure miss my drinking days. I got sober 30 plus years ago simply because I drank way too much wine. I had a 6000 bottle cellar at home and needless to say, I tried to put a dent in it every night. LOL Nothing beats a glass or 6 of a well aged Cab from Napa, especially with a beautiful steak like that bone in rib eye. Perfect review, as usual. Great timing too, as I'm about to throw an 8 pound Rib Eye Roast in the oven for our dinner tonight. Big congrats on hitting 30K my friend. Very well deserved. As always, Cheers sir.
Thank you so much! Yeah, one thing that I forgot to mention in the video is that the restaurant has some pretty elaborate decanters. I hope you enjoy that rib eye roast! It sounds like a great meal! Cheers!
Thank you James! So glad you took us here! I've been wanting to go and now I got a looks see...it does seem to be very nice!
Excellent review. Now I am a fan of your channel, and honestly your channel is now my go to resource for NYC food. Keep up the great work.
I’m going to NYC soon and your videos have been my greatest source in determining where to eat. Thank you so much for your reviews and work!!!!
Before I left for a food trip adventure in Bangkok on the 17th , your channel was hovering at around 28k and now its at 30k plus. Congratulations. Thanks for the review of Club A, being from the other side of the globe, I never knew it existed.
Hello James! I just stumbled across your reviews and have not been able to stop watching. Your style, your fair and objective reviews and the overall vibe just make these videos so addicting! Much love from Germany! If I ever get the chance to visit the US and/or NYC again, I will for sure take a look at your reviews again to make sure I eat good food!
Fantastic review as always! The charm and class you bring to your work is phenomenal! ❤️💎
Another fine review, sir! I lived on the UES for a bit, and still have family in the neighborhood, and I must say I've never heard of Club A. I'll definitely have to add this to the list! Thanks again!
Thanks for watching! Yeah, I wasn't too familiar with it either. I bet there's a lot of great restaurants out there that just slip under the radar.
Nice low key reviews that also give a nice glimpse of NYC. And listing the total price is great for those of us who aren't made of money but don't mind paying for good value on a meal. Keep it up
Great review and professional presentation and format, steak always cheers me up, thanks for your efforts as it is appreciated!
That looked like a great steak! I'm glad you finally got a big, filling meal! Too much nouvelle cuisine can cause starvation!😂
Hi James,
You operate a fine channel. I really enjoy your manner and you give detailed reviews.
Best Wishes,
Peter
Love your food reviews! It feels like I'm watching a Michelin-star reviewer critique these restaurants. Every time you post, it brings me joy to sit down and watch. I could see you having a website where you rank these restaurants in a tier list of some sort, kind of like your own Michelin guide. If you ever decide to create a website, reach out, and I would be more than happy to help.
Thank you so much! Yeah, I might do something someday where I rank restaurants in a given category, but there's still so many restaurants for me to visit.
I just discovered your channel. I must say I really enjoy your videos!!
Thanks again James. This is a great review. Friends are going to NYC from Minneapolis in a few weeks. They are staying at the Essex, which I think is walking distance to Club A. The restaurant has a really attractive look; and with good steaks and reasonable prices I think my friends will really enjoy. Your review is a much appreciated good tip. Thanks and best wishes, Rich
Hi James!!! 😊 I was in New York yesterday on a day trip & I *had* to try one of the places you recommended! Katz deli was so good & everyone was so friendly. It was an amazing experience for sure.
Another great one James...Sparks, Sparks, Sparks - I'm just so curious to know your opinion of their prime sirloin. I know it's on your list but it's a must try! Great job on this!!
You brought back some fond memories of my younger days in New York. I sometimes would meet a friend there for dinner. She lived in the apartment building opposite the restaurant. Then Lydia had her restaurant “Felidia “opposite Club A. We often shuttled between these two restaurants often. Glad to see Club A is still around but Felidia’s is now closed. I absolutely loved Club A’s red interior.
I'm happy that my video was able to spark some memories! Yeah, I really enjoyed that interior too. Thanks for watching!
I used to go to Bruno's all the time in the late 80's and 90's.. was one of my favorite Italian restaurants.. Bruno is a wonderful man, haven't been back to NY in 15 years but I'll check this new place out when I'm back!
Excellent review. The decor reminds me of (very loosely) some of the steakhouses in Western Wisconsin where "semi-fancy" sit down restaurants are not as prevalent as Manhatten still I am reminded of a steak house outside of Prairie-du-Chien and for a reasonable price I got an excellent bone in rib eye well salted and seasoned. Thank you for sharing your experience!
Love the videos as usual. When it gets nicer outside, can you review the best places for outdoor dining. Please and thank you. We miss your walk! walk!!
Thank you! Haha! Yeah, I'll have to incorporate more of my walking, haha! Indeed, I'll try to go to some spots with great outdoor dining. I've got some places in mind already.
Everything looked DELICIOUS!
Enjoy your day!
Safe Journey!
Yellowbird Blue Agave Sriracha!!!
Nice review James. Seems like pretty decent value in NYC. Wondering if you have tried Bobby Vans at 46th and Park. Steak is always good but the crabmeat appetizer is one of the best in the city. Keep the great videos coming!
Thank you! Nope, I haven't been to Bobby Vans yet, but I definitely would like to try it in the future.
James, thank you as always for a great review . You mentioned in your video that you enjoy charred steaks . May I humbly recommend that you try Sparks Steakhouse and kindly review it. They serve what many feel is the best sirloin in NY and it comes charred on both sides . I would love your opinion on this famous steakhouse . Be well and take care .
Thank you so much! Absolutely! I definitely plan to dine there and make a review in the future.
Enjoyed this review… would love to see you do a review of Alinea in Chicago. Great Review.
Inside tip, I now carry my own small portable garlic salt whenever I hit these steakhouses. Best decision I’ve ever made moving forward. Makes me happy.
You're welcome. You can find many discrete seasoning dispensers for cheap. Mine is small and is sleek black. Paid a few bucks for it. Reasonable is seasonable LOL See what I did there? Okay, I'll stop.@@Jamesnu
A great looking steak! Seems reasonably priced compared to other steakhouse restaurants in NYC. Great review as always.
Thank you! Yeah, in comparison to some other NYC steakhouses the prices aren't as bad.
Excellent entertaining and informative…..could you mention the corkage policies in these establishments. That information would help. You keep eating (a lot…I’m impressed) and I’ll keep watching from California.
This looks amazing for the price especially in New York finally a fairly priced steak meal
Helluva job once again, James. Gotta get wine next time. I'm sure one of your followers (me) would be glad to send you the extra cash, lol.
Haha! Yeah, the lack of wine was definitely something I regret. Thank you for watching!
I love that you compare the food to the food offered at other restaurants. Have you been to Sparks Steakhouse yet?
Thank you! No, I haven't been to Sparks yet, but it's definitely high on my list of places to try.
Love the decor but could get an A5 steak for that price and grill it home with a $5 bottle of wine 😂. I grow my own romaine lettuce as well.
Nice! Yeah, that's the thing with steak. As long as you have a good piece of meat and can cook it properly then it's much cheaper than a restaurant.
Really enjoyed it when we visited there a few years back. Service was very good. Got to say though, I like Gallaghers better. Keep up the good work James.
Thank you! Gallaghers is still a spot that I have to check out, but I'm glad you enjoyed your visit!
The time and effort it takes to produce these shots (I can only imagine the editing) solo must be exhausting. How does one even enjoy the meal while acting and directing? As one gets bigger on this platform, I’m assuming eventually staffing up frees you from the mundane tasks of the shoot itself. That said, the current production quality vs the beginning is to be applauded.
Thank you so much! Yeah, it's a lot of work, but I feel like it's worth it.
I'm glad that was a satisfying meal for you, though I wish you had gotten wine as well. I felt sad after your last video where you left the restaurant unsatisfied and still hungry. There's something to be said about budget, especially in NYC. But there's also something to be said for going for what you want and making the most out of a meal. Cheers!
Thank you! Indeed! I definitely regret not getting any wine. It would've been perfect with that steak.
The price point was good. They gave you all that food. Many other steak houses would have been much more in costs. Good vibe too. Never heard of this one before. Now I know!
Could you do a new/updated video on your apartment, job, extracurriculars etc
Maybe in the future. I'm just not sure many people would be interested in it.
Yes the glass of wine was missing but great video, thank you for sharing
I agree you are very much coming into your own. This restaurant was an excellent vibe fit for you. And for 100$ in NYC that’s a bargain.
You should check out Lewnes steakhouse in Annapolis, Maryland. We live in NYC, and this is on par with all the great nyc ones.
Nice! I appreciate the recommendation! If I'm in the area, I'll keep it in mind.
I personally prefer ceaser salad thats more heavy on the dressing. Loved the review regardless, even though it is unlikely that I will visit NYC
@@JamesnuI hope so too. Will enjoy NYC vicariously through you till then 😅
Another great vid! Did you stop at The Townhouse next door for an after dinner drink?
Thank you! Nope, but I should've gotten some wine with my steak. That's my one regret.
Beautiful steak. The owner must have total confidence in the meat to stand on its own because I didn't see any kind of steak sauce served. You don't take your own salt along anymore?
Haha! No, that was just a one time thing. Indeed, that steak didn't need a drop of steak sauce. It was delicious!
"A" for appetite...and we like to eat!... no going home hungry
Absolutely! I'll make sure that every plate that comes my way is clean when I finish.
lol i was wondering why this place sounded familiar. it was in the news cuz the owner got into a fight with a mobster
I didn't know about that, but I just looked the story up. That's pretty crazy!
Steakhouses are very common in NYC. I think Amber is the one that stands out though. The latest trend is the appearance of Thai restaurants. Theres a lot more of them than years ago.
@@Jamesnu Peter Luger no longer has Prime Rib. It was one of the best.
Be careful eating spinach. You'll find that your strength will increase and the size of your forearms will double. 🤣
Love club a the owner is great they treat u right go there u will be happy
Interesting. How did you know the Rib Eye was 20 oz? I saw the menu and the ounces aren't stated. Peter Luger also doesn't state size and that seems to becoming more common in steak house menus during this current 'shrinkflation" environment.
That's because it was the same ribeye from the regular menu, which does state how much it weighs. I know what you mean though. When I order a steak, I like to know how much meat I'm getting.
Too bad I live in New Mexico but if or when I visit nyc I know where too go first stop was the all your can eat steak and fries $45 Legasea especially on a budget lol
Great review! the steak didn't look that thick? Maybe the camera angle...
Thank you! It was probably the camera angle. I thought that it was a good size.
Love your review. Time to start carrying a small amount of flaky sea salt with you.
Why didn’t just ask for sea salt and order a glass of wine. I live in nyc and go to restaurants like I more than likely won’t be back for some time so I order exactly what I want to have the best experience. I’d be shocked if they didn’t flaky salt.
Fair enough. The thing was that if I put sea salt onto the steak then it would've been over-salted. The restaurant should've put less salt on the meat when it was being cooked so the sea salt could be added later without overpowering the steak.
we will only eat a table side prepared Caesar-- if done right=Heaven
A table-side preparation definitely makes the dish seem a bit more special.
Why would the chicken parm be a 30 dollar upcharge when the ribeye was only 20 more? That chicken better pop off the plate and do a song and dance number (ala the Warner Bros. cartoons frog) for that kind of money.
Haha! Yeah, I think that was more of a menu misprint, because I thought the same thing. My ribeye was actually a $30 extra charge and I think the steaks above it were $20 more.
@@JamesnuAfter going back to rewatch you are absolutely correct. That was an odd way to write up that menu. Maybe they initially just had the first 4 or 5 steaks and realized it looked a little skimpy and threw on a couple of classics from their previous Italian restaurant to round it out. i'm sure these fixed price menus are hard to create to get new diners and still make at least a little money.
@@JeffTaylor-tr7my Yeah, that could've been the case. I bet the restaurant also counts on people ordering drinks to help round out the cost.
Never trust a dude with two first names. Boiii you got me starving for a crusted medium rare ribeye. Nice review.
You said twice that it was underrated, but you didn’t explain why you thought that. Instead, you mentioned that it had glowing reviews and a lot of great reviews. That literally sounds like the opposite of underrated.
I meant that it's underrated in comparison to other NYC steakhouses. Of course it has good reviews, but it's nowhere near as known or talked about compared to other steak restaurants in NYC.
Ditto, what everybody else said. Forks up.....
Hi James, you can't wish for warm weather ! That's 'global warming' . They'll cancel you ! Only kidding ! Here's a heretical thought : every steak house should have red walls. We're here to eat beef ! No misunderstandings, el toreador. Yes, that looked like a very good meal. You guys love your creamed spinach with steak, don't you ? Never seen it in Australia. We're more into buttery mash potato. But I've always loved spinach, so I would enjoy it for sure. Nice episode, James ! Thank you. I see you've hit 30K. Well done !
Thank you so much! That's interesting! I never thought of that. Creamed spinach is usually in almost every steakhouse here. I've got to check out some of the steakhouses of Australia sometime. I took a trip there once, but I've never had the chance to visit any steakhouses. Perhaps in the future.
Chicken parm pizza!
I've seen pictures and videos of it and the dish looks incredible! If I was getting something other than steak, that's what I would've wanted to try.
What is the "restaurant week"?
It's a periodical event in NYC when restaurants that participate, offer deals to entice customers to their restaurants.
it seemed like a nice experience, but its totally something I could do at home for less than $20...
It was definitely a nice experience, but yeah, everything would be cheaper outside of a restaurant.
I'm hoping to open a food truck someday, it would be awesome if you stopped by sometime in the future
cheers
You have really dialed in your personal style of review, and it's great to watch. Relaxing yet engaging. Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much!
@@Jamesnu Yes u have a great style and I agree the ribeye is my favorite cut, it's delicious and tender and good portion size. I guess they did away with 15% gratuity wow, it's not enough that food prices have sky rocketed but they want us to pay for the raise of the servers wages. In Europe and most countries it is unheard of. The restaurant owner pays a fair wage so it doesn't come out of the customers pocket.
Yup ❤
@@girlywhirly4971 Thank you! Yeah, ribeyes are delicious!
