I loved the interaction between Max and Helen, the respect they held for one another both professionally and personally. Georgia was a sweetheart, but her time was cut short in the series.
Max and Helen, a twin flame that ignited whenever they were together; something they didn't see coming, but both eventually could not deny. The connection between them was seen both onscreen in NA and offscreen in their personal lives. Although the show was cancelled, the characters of Max and Helen are canonized, forever etched in our hearts. Their relationship resonated with us on so many levels, and made us fall in love with Max/Ryan and Helen/Freema. It certainly was a slow burn that left us wanting more.
After Freema left, i ceased to watch. Needless to say, I never saw Season 5, and I guess I had no desire to, especially after reading the comments of how the writers got it massively wrong in the end. You don't decimate a character out of spite; at least you don't if you're a professional. At the end of the day, the writers lost the vision of the characters and the greatest lovestory ever portrayed on a night time medical drama was lost. The love Ryan/Max and Freema/Helen conveyed onscreen could not be duplicated. Their portaits, a masterpiece, displayed in the museum of our hearts. The authentic and pure love that blossomed between Max(ryan) and Helen (freema) made all the other relationships on the show pale in comparison. They are the Romeo and Juliet, the Tristan and Isolde of our time.
When Freema left, then Helen had no choice but to be at the mercy of the clueless.
In the end, Max (Ryan) had no choice, but to choose his work@ WHO in Geneva over (rebound) Wilder who was ultimately left behind. Her pain is felt because rebounds almost never survive the aftermath.
Side Note: (Thank God for Sharpwin fanfiction writers. Loved them!
Their take on the Max and Helen lovestory express and convey to the reader how the Max/Helen lovestory should have played out on the tv screen. However, i prefer reading it because...we have no choice, the show was cancelled and there is doubt if the screen could capture the true essence of these iconic figures).
