Hi Jom, Doesn’t SS stand for Semi Slick like SK stands for Small Knob?
Great review BTW, would love to try these tires but just bought a set of WTB ByWay 700c tires...

Hi there, yes, something like that.

The SS does stand for Semi-Slick but I really like SS homage to Chevy and the Super-Sport! I'm going with it from now on!

I've got the SS on my bike and love them! They are super fast and ride great on and pavement

My Litespeed Cherohala came with the original gravelkings 38c, the smooth ones. The rear tire got a 4 mm gash at around 300 miles, I couldn’t use it anymore. I replaced it with another exact tire, it lasted 500 miles, same thing but a bit smaller tear, I was able to repair it. The front tire lasted 1000 miles. I’m now riding the SS gravelkings. Waiting on seeing how long they will last.

I have the GK slicks 700x38c and over 3K miles so far. They really amaze me with the ability that they still have great traction w/o tread. I ride long distances but mostly broken asphalt and hard pack dirt gravel mix roads. I would consider the SS Semi Slick if the dirt was a bit looser.

Thanks for the tire revue. It would be nice to have your thoughts on tire pressures ( variations on tire width) and how you would determine pressures.

@@GravelCyclist, thanks for the quick reply and links. I’ve seen this and SRAM’s tire pressure recommendations. Do you find a personal preference to vary from the recommendations ( as in course surface or tire volume due to wider internal rim)?

I have 1000+ miles on my 38mm SS+ tires. I've ridden everything including chunky single track and they have been amazing.

What about Reneherse tires? I have the the Barlow pass with original casing and they are just so light, supple and amazing. I’m usually on the road and very light gravel.
It would be interesting your thoughts on their lineup.

I just bought a pair of SS+ in a 45mm, thinking of saving them for Unbound 200....thoughts on this tire for Unbound?
    Thanks!

I'd use the GK SK. I finished three editions of DK 200 (before the name change) riding these tyres. Good luck!

Awesome tires! I do a lot of paved roads plus gravel so these are a no brainer. 700x35 roll like a dream 😁

Haha, yes! I was stoked to work with Panaracer Japan on this collaboration. Not everyone realizes this review was released a while ago, but Panaracer Japan specifically desired a version for their local market.
