Maashaa Allaah! This channel is a novelty in providing us with enhanced Islamic knowledge we did not know existed till we started watching Professor Gabriel and his guests explaining the many "nuances" that are part of understanding the message of Islam coming to us over the past 1443 years of tradition of our faith.
From the Document on Human Fraternity mentioned in this discussion: Freedom is a right of every person: each individual enjoys the freedom of belief, thought, expression and action. The pluralism and the diversity of religions, colour, sex, race and language are willed by God in His wisdom, through which He created human beings. This divine wisdom is the source from which the right to freedom of belief and the freedom to be different derives. Therefore, the fact that people are forced to adhere to a certain religion or culture must be rejected, as too the imposition of a cultural way of life that others do not accept.
46:55 --- I met buya HAMKA three times. Once, on the 1977 Muhammadiyah post-Ed-AL-Fitr (Halal Bilhalal) celebration. Second, at his home in Kebayoran Baru in the late 1970s. And last time, on a speech in Salman Mosque (ITB) Bandung. When he died on FRIDAY, 24 July 1981, Salat al-Gha'ib was performed in most Indonesian Mosques after the Friday prayer. Compared to "Ibn-Katsir," his "Tafsir Al-Azhar" Quran interpretation is much easier to understand.
Did I miss it, but did they ever mention abrogation? They alluded to the Mecca/Medina tone change, but if I missed them talking directly about abrogation, please put the time mark in here for me.
Of course they don't mention abrogation as it would clearly debunk the n𝜊nsense - the later (in time) non-cancelled verses are extremely hat𝜀ful & int𝜊lerant of other religions.
@@endpc5166 True. They hem and hawed around Mecca and Medina and alluded to a shift change, but it did not address the stated position of how Muslims view the sword verses as abrogating the prior peaceful verses. But that is more about Sharia methodology which Muslims will not talk about as it is the state secret not to share with outsiders.

This is unacademic and misread the Qur'an. Reading a verse in isolation is not the correct way to read the Quran. Each Ayah in the Quran is part of the story narrative and often contains multiple speeches in one Ayah. You are not doing justice to this unique piece of literature.
I see two people mainly avoiding to discuss the quranic verses honestly and their (traditional Hadith) context. Maybe 7 minutes of the 70 minutes discussion where concerned with the quranic text itself 🙄 Please analyze the text without bias, wishful thinking and without your 21st century notion what should be...
Historical-critical scholars do not read the Quran through the lens of the later Hadith tradition, which is a product of a much different and post-Prophetic environment.
Ayah 9:29 is never given its context of 9:28. The solution for losing money from pagan pilgrimage is resolved by fighting and coercing money from other faiths. Other faiths who were once called allies.
Indeed! I also ask myself why anyone would choose to become a Muslim after reading Q. 9:111; whereby it is apparently the duty of a Muslim to kill and be killed!
@@gavinjames1145 Well, if you were promised booty if you win and live and hoories if you die, it appeals to the base desires of humanity. Either way, Muhammad promised a good time and if you were with the currently winning team, it offered an incentive.

Yo! Professors. We must absolutely get a list of books displayed on your program + where to buy (outside amazon). Muchas Gracias.

Good argument for a more tolerant voice in the Quran in the later period.
I'm getting the book but come-on $170 is not what I would immediately describe as "reasonable" lol
Love to see mr. Sirry & Mr. Christian Prince. Its the biggest draws - will it happens?
Get Meir bar Asher on the channel to discuss Jews and the Qur’an.

I didn't hear it either, but I may have slipped past me. It was not discussed in detail if it was.
I can't point to a spot where it was openly discussed. It seems like a missed opportunity to get clarity about how it is applied in Islam.
