Hi CoasterFan2105 I was able to see her just pulling out of San Juan Capistrano on June 27th. Such a beautiful locomotive. I caught her on video and reported it on HeritageUnits

My favorite Amtrak route is that of the Coast Starlight/Pacific Surfliner between San Diego & the Sacramento area traveling along the Coast, I rode the Pacific Surfliners between San Diego & Los Angeles when they were the San Diegans 7 times and the Coast Starlight 3 times. I travel by Amtrak long distance as Train travel is my favorite way to travel.
Great footage in stunning scenery Mike. Loved the clip going over the trestle bridge. There appeared to be a lot of single track sections and I wondered if this is normal on main routes in the U.S? Thanks. Ken
Thank you, Ken. This particular route does not see much traffic, so very little of the line has been double tracked. Most of the major freight lines in the country are double or triple tracked along with some of the passenger lines. But, there are still a bunch of routes that have yet to be upgraded.
What an awesome catch! I love the scenery along the Coast Starlight route!
Great shots! nicely done
i have caught 156 on the coast starlight before in commerce. Nice vid and keep up that good work!
Great video Mike! Love the sunset and the reflective departure at Santa Barbara!
Awesome video! Happy birthday Amtrak!
Thanks for the info Mike - its a very scenic route and comes across very well on your video. Thanks. Ken

OUTSTANDING!
+wsp162 Thanks!!
Nice one Mike! Horn sucks, but paint scheme rocks!! Liking the tunnel shot in Chatsworth! Gotta try that spot out one of these days! ;-)
I agree with you on the horn. It sounds like 83.
Horn sucks but the phase 1 is the best
It didn't at first, but now it does/did
Great intro
On the second clip of this video, if this was on August 25, 2013 I was on board that train.
I love the shot of the sunset along the coast at 6:09 at Gaviota State Beach!
As train 11 leaves Santa Barbara at night, something seems to be wrong with the ringing bell.
On the Gaviota State Beach clip did I see a Phase 1 P42 with a Dash-8? Shouldn't that be considered super rare?
Yes, you did.
They look pretty together.
As of 7:am PDT 17 July 2018 the Amtrak 156 was sitting outside the Santa Fe Depot in San Diego.
Awesome!
+SunsetLTDCoastStarlightPacificSurfliner Thanks!

Who would think its a good idea to name an amtrak phase 1 P42C Genesis a Bloodybose unit? Its literally a red nosed unit, like rudolf.

Engine 156 is going to get scrapped soon
