  • The McDonald's All-American game is a yearly showcase of the best and brightest young basketball players before they head to college and hopefully the NBA. Only one player (usually) can be crowned as the MVP each year, and I've gone through and ranked all 55 of them from 1978 to 2019 based on their post-MVP careers.

    Shaq won the McDonalds All-American Game MVP over Kenny Anderson, and I remember Brent Musberger calling that game and repeatedly saying he was perplexed as to how Shaq wasn’t considered the best player in that class - all due respect to Kenny Anderson. And he was right!

      Kenny didn't play in that Game, also Brent Musberger didn't call that game as he was still with CBS and that game was on ABC.

    Michael Jordan was the first player to score 30 pts in a McDonald's game. A record that stood for about 19 years ( broken by Johnathan Bender). Not only did he score 30 pts but he also hit the game winning free throws. Straight up politics denied him the MVP ( which i feel they should honor him with). Because the game was played in Wichita, Kansas and hometown favorite Aubrey Sherrod was a pre season 1st or 2nd team all american and Adrian Branch played at DeMatha for coach Morgan Wooten who was also on the committee to select the players for the McDonald's game, both those guys were selected as CO-MVPs. The biggest MVP robbery at any level of basketball.

    It's fun hearing some shadows from the past that were once thought of as great young players, but then disappeared. The kind of guys who made the Top 10 in mock drafts a long time ago, but then never lived up to the hype.

    Not understanding how Kevin Garnett can go ahead of Kevin Durant. Almost every measurable and accolades go to Durant. And as Pros people can talk about KD joining the Warriors, but Garnett wasn't even getting out of the First Round in his Prime in Minnesota. Durant already made a NBA Finals by year 5 in OKC.

    • @RickyFrech404
      @RickyFrech404  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I mean, I did say it's close for me (and Durant may overtake him when he retires), but I value KG's defense and rebounding more than Durant scoring more. KG is the #2 PF in my book behind Duncan. Even throwing out the Warriors stuff, that OKC team was leagues better than any TWolves team Garnett ever played on haha. But yeah, it's close. I'm just a defense-first person, so I have KG slightly over KD and reserve the right to switch it when Durant hangs them up in a few years. It's a living list in that way

    • @rayglenn
      @rayglenn 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RickyFrech404 Completely respect your opinion, but to me KG is vastly overrated my friend. I know him joining the Celtics late and getting that Championship helps him, but to prove my point he didn't even lead that team as Paul Pierce was their go to guy, and him and Ray Allen took all the important shots. KG was a Great Player but his passion and energy overshadowed he wasn't a Great Offensive Player who you could continually go to in tough moments. I think the Gap is Greater between KD and KG Offensively (Edge obviously to Durant) then the gap,is between them Defensively (Slight Edge to KG). And there's no comparison to them as Clutch Players and who's hit more Clutch Shots in Playoff Games. I think Giannis, Dirk Nowitski, Karl Malone & Charles Barkley is still light years ahead of KG as far as impact on teams that they led versus teams KG was the Go to Guy. KG could never be put ahead of Giannis or Dirk as both guys led their teams (Meaning they were unquestionable the best player) to NBA Championships. And Malone & Barkley, both of those guys would have Championships most likely if it wasn't for someone named Jordan, and losing to him in the Finals. Giannis, Dirk, Mailman, and Sir Charles all have MVP'S like KG, but all four led teams to Finals and all averaged over 25ppg multiple times, something KG could never do, and each one of them was his equal as a rebounder with the exception of Dirk, who absolutely brutalized KG in the 2002 First Round averaging 33 to KG's 18, and sweeping him. There's too many examples of KG coming up short like this. Even if you say his team wasn't that good, him getting dominated by another superstar in his Prime like this, should never happen. As a go to guy I would put more value on those guys leading teams to the finals and losing, then moving KG ahead of them, as the non go to guy. And KG was not only not getting out of the First Round, his last three years in Minnesota he didn't even make the playoffs. I think he should be #4 on this list with hard consideration for C.Webb to be ahead of him, but I think there's a Gap between the top 3 (LBJ, Shaq, KD) and the rest. KD in three Finals against LeBron both with OKC and the Warriors averaged over 32ppg against LeBron. And in 2017 averaged 35.4 which is historic numbers. And difference with KD and KG, he joined the Warriors and became their best player, KG did not, as Paul Pierce was always the one they turned to in big moments. Just like Game 7 in the 2008 Playoffs in the second round when he had to get 41 points to hold off LeBron. Side note Jordan should've been MVP in the 1981 Game as he had 30 points and the game winning free throws in that game, and was snubbed for Adrian Branch who's coach Morgan Wooten was the chairperson of the McDonald's Game at that time. Still despite my disagreement with KD and KG, I respect you taking the time to put this video together and it was a Great List regardless. Just friendly banter about Basketball.

      @RickyFrech404  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@rayglenn Yeah, hopefully, I didn't come off as upset in my response haha! I can definitely see the case for KD, I just prefer defensive players and have KG as one of the best to ever do it on that side of the ball (though you could say the same about Durant on the other side!) I haven't done my personal Top 50 players in a long time, but they're both probably in the top 15 for me fwiw! Also, totally agree about the MJ snub lol

    • @rayglenn
      @rayglenn 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RickyFrech404 And I hope I wasn't coming off snarky. I was just having basketball banter, I don't want to seem as I'm singling you out or picking on you. As far as All Time Ranks, a friend asked me to do mine when the Top 75 was announced in 2022, I think I had KG #28, and I had Barkley #25, Dirk #23, Mailman #22, Giannis #20, and KD #14. But that was before the conclusion of the 2022 Season. I agree KG is one of the top defensive players of all time, but I think Durant is easily one of the Top 5 Offensive Players of All Time with Mike, Kobe, Wilt, etc. Also I know Jokic would be ranked Higher as at the time I had him #33. He's most likely Top 20 right now and about to be Top 15. P.S. I use to write for a recruiting website as a side hustle.
