- This summer marked 20 years since the release of Mr. Bungle's "California" album also, they just announced some reunion gigs so this is timely, I suppose. Apes and I adore Bungle and this song. Picking any Mike Patton vocal to cover is daunting, particularly the Bungle material, but this tune is relatively simple. The original is a massive production, and we made a stark, bare-bones campfire version of it somehow but I'm proud of us for even getting it done at all. This one was really for our own gratification but I hope you super fickle Mr. Bungle fans out there think this went ok... we applied a ton of restraint and gentleness for a tune (and album) that abandons those concepts rather quickly. Anyway, hats off to Mr. Dunn for the words and music. Really a brilliant song.

Well done. You obviously know the Patton-crowd out there. Some might start bitchin´ about the restraint, but in my mind, that´s precisely what makes your performance special. That´s how covers should be, right? Stay as close as you can to the general idea of the original (as you see it, of course), but be sure to put your own spin and style on it.
P.s. - I stumbled upon your version of the song on youtube searching for the original, because my friend just had a little girl and I´m going to ask him to gently sing Retrovertigo for her, from me. Your cover totally delivers the mood, despite the odd setting (though I know mr. Patton would approve). Thank you guys. Great job.
