I actually had the pinky finger turn and the outside plate cut into my finger since it comes to a point. I filed the point down to correct the issue. I agree with your comments but these remain my favorite gloves after about a year of heavy use.
I had to file down both of the inside curves of my pinky fingers because they chaffed a bit, but that was in my previous videos. It was an easy adjustment. After all my experience with 5-finger glove...I think I know how to make a safe pair...
Thanks for your reviews. I ended up ordering a pair after your second review, and love them. My only issue so far is that I did take a thrust to the mesh above my middle finger, and it caused considerable soreness for weeks. I haven't been able to use them enough to see persistent issues of finger covers sliding out of position, but I can see how that might be an issue as the gloves get more worn in. Still miles better than my old Neyman Thokks.
Thanks for the reply, so you thrust example is very is very important imo. I have taken thrust there with no problems, but you example is proof that every hit is different.
@@colleptic yeah, It ended up breaking the skin a little and must have bruised the bone. No impact to mobility but it's still a little sensitive 4 weeks later. I was thinking I might craft a leather plate to go over there and give more protection. Also I'm a lefty, so maybe the difference in angles contributed to the additional injury
I had a pretty severe injury to my pinky the first time out doing longsword in these. I believe this was related to the issue you brought up about the pinky coming out of the plastic. I had a compression injury which caused severe selling in my pinky and caused me to have to burn a hole in my own nail to relieve the pressure. fortunately I did not lose function or feeling in the digit, but I did experience pain for several months afterward. This injury occurred in April of 2021. I tried contacting Hema Supplies (the US supplier) with my concerns, but they were pretty dismissive.
Yup, seems to be the only issue I have with the gloves this far in. I hockey tapped in my pointer and pinky finger, that helps. It sucks, because if that was not an issue, they would be really good.
I've been using these gloves for about a year and really like them. I don't seem to have the thumb issue yours have, but I did get the looseness in the fingers. A couple of my finger tips were almost slipping out of the gloves. I made a few hold down straps and fixed the problem. My only concern is the possibility of a point thrusting between the thumb plates into the webbing of my hand. So far I haven't had any injuries wearing these gloves during moderate to heavy intensity sparring. A friend also uses these gloves and went through a tournament with them injury free.
Yup, i just hockey taped in my fingers, to fix the slipping...it is crude, but works. So far, it is the only glove I have had that kept me injury free. I think in time I will do a super long term follow up on these.
I know this video is old, but when my infinity gloves came it said to put the thumb plate under the little plate there. I'm not sure if that would help would anything, but it is much nicer and safer.
I would think that just a well placed strap going under the gloves would solve the issue with only two rivet hole one on each side of the plate. I would be concerned that more rivets in the top of the plate would create a weak spot prone to cracking.
The strap they already have way back at the start of the fingers may work, my experience with Neyman Armadillos and two Pro Gauntlet test, bands/straps higher up usually start to loosen up, restrict blood flow and bind up in the finger joints. But...the ones that the Infinity has, are wider than most, so not sure how they would behave further up the finger.
@@colleptic My experience is with historical harness, but these lames have enough depth as you pointed out that if it was straight across it should simply keep your fingers in. I would certainly suggest strap like the one already used, rather than cords. I have an antipathy for the thin bungie cords used so often in HEMA gear.
I think rivets on each side might force the fingers apart and could feel quite bad on the inside, since there is not much space. Potential hot spots for blisters etc. I just taped each finger shell. I need to find a better tape though. The tape I use atm needs to be replaced every few sparring sessions.
I've been fighting with these for a few months now. I like them a lot so far. I don't seem to have that poping out thumb issue on my gloves. My biggest concern so far is the possibility that a point could stab into the gap in the glove around the webbing of my thumb. It hasn't been an issue yet, but I think there's a risk there.
Great notes on durability and protection. What's your opinion on mobility? Can you perform crossed arm guards and cuts very well? Do the gloves catch each other or your cross guard? OK for grappling? Thanks again!
Mobility is very good, you can see in my videos when I am moving my fingers and hands around within no effort...prob the best feature of the glove. Cross guards are not bad, from all my 5-finger gloves, from this, -5-finger sparring glove, armadillo, and other I have forgotten, they are right in the middle for cross guards. I did trim down my cuff, which I think I mentioned in one of the couple reviews I did on this glove, that helped too. Because the finger attachments are mobile and loose, grappling with them better than most thus far. The only real problem with them is what I mentioned in the video, the loose riveting points, lack of them, and the stretching of the attachment points over time to the inner glove. I have now actually hockey tapped in the pointer and pinky finger...which helps safety quite a bit. I did it in a way that does not affect the grip feeling at all.
@@colleptic Thanks so much for this info. I've been on the fence for buying these for a quite a while, it's a big investment for me. If I am going to buy a glove, everything about it has to be acceptable in my mind relative to SPES heavies. Have you posted a pic of your hockey tape fix anywhere? Think it'd be worth taping pre-emptively? Thanks again! You do great work.
Do you think it would be possible to modify them yourself with additional rivets in the spots you mentioned? Eg. drill small hole and use some of the replacement rivets you bought. The movement of the plastic caps is concerning to me, but otherwise they look great.
Yes, if you are crafty enough I could see doing the sides...but not the top, that would require taking apart the whole glove, unless you are good enough to do that, which I am not. For the sides, I think you would need a way to attach a material to the inner glove, to attach the rivets on the outside to...I think if you just put rivet through the outside, they would rub on your fingers etc. After looking at it over-and-over again myself, I think some tough thread, sowing the side of the pinky and point finger to the sides could work, without causing chaffing points...but I need find someone who can do this for me.
Keep up the good work. It really helps me in finding more information for finding to the perfect glove. Hopefully you will reach monitasation soon. I asked some peepz to sub
You just need the proper sized hex/allen key or driver for the screw rivets, and some needle nose pliers to hold the rear threaded section in place. You should use blue threadlocker when put the screw rivets back in.
@@colleptic Thanks! I sent sparringglove an email about this and they say the issue has since been resolved. I'm getting my pair in august so we'll see 👍
I have a scar on my pinky where a cap plate from a five-finger glove tore through my pinky. I'd say stop wearing if fingers are slipping out immediately.
Same... I have a two scares from the 5-finger sparring gloves resin breaking and cutting me. Note that on these infinities, your finger cannot 100% slip out, they get lose and the plastic casts can then turn and on mainly your pinking, but your pointer and thumb can also be exposed. They just become looser and looser. The pointer and pinky could be seated in the glove much better and it would be a pretty easy change the more I look at it...
Main 5 Finger glove I use right now. I do not like to use clam-shell/hoof gloves, I like finger mobility, but as I mentioned, we sacrifice protection for that.
It was freaky. You know the plate between the thumb and the main hand plate? Just behind the meaty bit of you dorsal thumb? It struck in-between the plates with the tip of an untipped sword
Hex Head Rivit is a M4x6.

I simply taped with string clothtape the plastic shell of each finger. Exactlty like tge thumb of the mittens

Great review. Hey Stacey, have u tried putting one peice of Flexi tape under the tips of the fingers to stop the finger from popping out?

What's the disassembly process for these gloves like? I may be interested in adding extra rivets like you mentioned.

What Ryan said, all of the finger rivets are Hex headed, so you should be able to do this. Let me know if you do please!
