I'm retired, and you, because of your wonderful work and your game play videos, have transformed war gaming for me. Thanks for yet another behind the scenes briefing.
I'm so jealous of that army. They look great and you've concealed the bases so well into those unit bases. I'm really loving all the Arthurian stuff. Keep'em comin'.
Thank you 🙂 I have always loved my Arthurian stuff as it's one of my earliest interests, I remember going to Tintagel when I was about 6 and I don't wargame it as much as I should
Great painting skill and great basing! This is all very inspiring for my own 15mm Dark ages England Vikings and Saxons Hail Caesar games. Very much looking forward to these games...
You are a constant source of amazement to me Martin, how do you manage to juggle so many projects. I struggle to finish one that has been going for 20 years.
They look awesome :). I bought Warbases Midgard 8 figure bases for my fledgling Muslim Army, I missed the Test of Honour command bases, so will add them to my next order. No one in the clubs I go to has mentioned Midgard, so I am using it as an excuse to plan an El Cid Spanish army so I can field both sides :).
Awesome stuff mate, I look forward to seeing that. Yeah I was just looking at them and thought they were perfect, I'll use plugs for the lower level heroes, maybe with some scatter terrain on 👍
I still have my original books the same as yours, also have them in audio version. I always loved the stories of Arthur, these books as you said really grounded them in a form of historical reality. Loved the video. My Arthurian and early Saxon armies are super glued to square bases. Not sure how I’ll get them off to re base.
I got my copy of Midgard last week. I will definetly do something with it, not in 28mm. In the Moment I am considering 10mm Lord of the Rings and 6mm Cartahago. Thanks for you super videos, I enjoy them every time!
Just a little side note. Midgard is measured by frontages too. You can use any size minis and any size rectangular base. Your measurement will be based off the frontage of your units. So sure you can do 120mm, or you could do 180, or 200, or 60, or 80 etc etc etc.
Excellent video - really enjoyable. Terrific job on the sabot bases, tufts rule! I’m pretty sure that the cavalry you bought at Warfare are from Westwind.
Thanks Martin, plenty of food for thought here and highlights again the fact that you don't need huge armies for Hail Ceasar/Pike & Shotte or Black Powder, looking forward to seeing your progress and more bat reps, Cheers👍
That's an excellent way of playing both systems 😊 As You say makes life much easier , too many people stress about base sizes etc The important thing is to get the troops on the table !
Really looking forward to seeing more content on this theme. I intend to do the same as you. I still have my old stuff from WAB and hope to utilise some of that. But I still had to get some of the new Victrix.
Great looking army, ordered the arthur book and the metal knights of camelot from warlord the other day.Couldnt get any of the lbms shield transfers as they're sold out everywhere not just at warlord.Seriously thinking about some of those late romans from victrix, liked them from when you did that video on them.
Awesome, getting hold of the LBMS transfers can be hit and miss across alot of the ranges, I guess it's as they are so popular. I'm just working on a few of the late Romans at the moment as banner bearers and so far so good 👍
Was wondering about the sabot bases, I’ve about 70 Vikings based on 2p and was twitching. Don’t like the uniform two lines so seeing yours made me re-think. For the extra 30mm depth I think they look great. Also great idea for leaders. Just started Midgard… hadn’t thought of the Hail Caesar supplement damn you 😂
I’ve been thinking about grabbing some historicals from Victrix. I just really like the models. I’ll probably be gaming solo and I wanted to go with a more historical/fantasy theme. I’ll be waiting on your battle reports! Also wanted to add that I too love the warlord series. I’ve read through it a couple of times and I’ve been thinking about reading them again. I was excited for the tv series but after watching the first episode I quit watching it lol. Great books!
My dude, We NEED a Winter King campaign series... Campaign would likely scale really well as the clashes in the book kinda start with skirmishes as Derfel rises through the ranks. Please tell me you are going to do some wolf tail warriors!
Absolutely 😁 I was just thinking there must be a stl file, probably for Space Wolves, where there will be wolf tails. I think that a Winter King campaign would work quite easily but also slotting it into the campaign in the Once and Future King book as most of the battles in there are ones from those books, so just have to slightly adapt things, and rename Bedevere to Derfel 👍 thanks for watching buddy
Lovely work mate well done 👏👏👍. I’ve also been doing some rebasing and making trays for my Dark Age Vikings and Welsh plus looking into adding some Arthurian models to the latter to make a Midgard force. Just 1 note, as far as I understand infantry units are on 120cm by 60mm base (like your skirmisher bases) in Midgard 🤔🤷♂️, so if you put your heavier infantry also on these bases/trays (8 to 10 models)you could have a even larger force, possibly even a 300pt army🤔🤷♂️😉.
mOST INTEResting , I can see the appeal, If I did this in future , I would do The Rise of Mercian Kingdom , As I am a Mercian , Based around a half read book , Mercia: The Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Central England BY Sarah Zaluckyj .
I was just watching your first Hail Caesar Epic battle (fun video) and was curious about the dimensions of your table ( terrain looked really good btw).
@@7thson726 Thanks! I have been contemplating what would be an ideal table size for 28mm gaming and have been building setups in my head for a year now. Outside of a big table, I was thinking a 8ftx6ft would be just about perfect for medium and small matches allowing for plenty of room for maneuver and terrain dressing. Do you think 6 feet is too far to play comfortably across?
@@7thson726 That's good news. Sometimes, when watching vids the 4ft distance seems to not allow much movement before engagement starts. When I can finally do everything I want to do, I want to be able to play freely and not be constricted (unless I choose to be). The best of both worlds. BTW I am the guy that linked you those siege rules back in December 2022.

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to comment, that's amazing to hear, thank you. I really appreciate it and hope you enjoy what's coming 👍🙂

Very much looking forward to these games...
Thanks very much, a 15mm Great Heathen Army sounds like a great project 👍
Midgard has taken over my Ancients/Medieval/Fantasy gaming, loving it!
Haha it's true, it's everywhere 😅😁
First class painting and basing, superb army!!👍👍
Thanks mate 👍
Un'altro bellissimo lavoro, complimenti! Saluti dall' Italia
Thanks so much my friend 👍
the figures look great , can't wait to see some battles
Thanks, looking forward to having the game, should be early in the new year 👍
You are a constant source of amazement to me Martin, how do you manage to juggle so many projects. I struggle to finish one that has been going for 20 years.
Thank you buddy, I just like to keep myself busy but I also try not to put too much pressure on myself 😁

Excellent mate, nice idea with the banner men standard bearers, be stealing that!
Look at the footsore welsh they are fabulous
Glad you liked it mate, I'm just finishing off a few things then I'll be started on those 😁

Bloody lovely looking troops... I wonder if the soldiers of the Kingdom of Elmet had a distinctive look.
Thanks buddy, I guess they could do, I'm sure they mention Elmet in the Winter King 🤔 thanks for watching mate
Thay look fantastic great work on them from a distance thay can't see that they popped out of their trays very well done brilliant 👍👍🤠🤠
Thank you 😁 it's weird the little hang ups we have like mine for the trays but there's always a way haha

Very true, I meant to mention about measurements and spear throws etc, ah well, more for the next video 😁

Looks good Marin, I am starting two armies one Scotch-Irish and the other Carolingian in 15mm, the figure from Forgue in Battle...!!
They do make some lovely figures, that sounds like a great project 👍
Thanks Martin, plenty of food for thought here and highlights again the fact that you don't need huge armies for Hail Ceasar/Pike & Shotte or Black Powder, looking forward to seeing your progress and more bat reps, Cheers👍
Couldn't agree more, in fact I think it will lead to some cool narratives. Thanks for watching buddy 👍
That's an excellent way of playing both systems 😊
As You say makes life much easier , too many people stress about base sizes etc
The important thing is to get the troops on the table !
Absolutely, I'm happy to make the games work for me rather than the other way round 😁
Looking forward to some Midgard battle reports on the channel! It would work well for the Crusades armies too
I have been thinking about that 👍 looking forward to having a game, probably be a smallish one to start with as we get to grips with the system 😁
Awesome looking army mate. Love the basing.
Thanks buddy, really pleased you like it, I'm currently responsible for a localised tuft shortage in pretty sure 😅
Really looking forward to seeing more content on this theme. I intend to do the same as you. I still have my old stuff from WAB and hope to utilise some of that. But I still had to get some of the new Victrix.
Can't go wrong with a few new recruits 😁
Great video and update looking forward to see some battles 😊
Cheers buddy, they'll be on the way in the new year 😁👍
Lovely looking army, Martin. I need to get some of those trays from warbases for my wotr miniatures
They are great and they have a decent set of options as well for layout 👍
Looking good; I just received an order of chariots to bolster two Trojan War forces
I'm giving serious consideration to doing something similar 😁

Brilliant, Vikings would look great on these 👍 it's always good to have a few rulesets for any occasion

Love the minis on your command base. Where are they from??
Thanks, those ones are all from the Victrix unarmoured late Romans set 👍
Would be cool to see a durvel diorama. Warriors of the cauldron
Good shout, need some wolf tails 🤔

@Mordante69 I play on those a fair bit, it's normally fine, as you can get round front he sides as well 👍

@Mordante69 ah nice one, I remember that, thanks for that and of course taking the time to message on this as well
What TV show do you mean?
The Winter King
