The league died because it's boring. As someone who hoops fr but also has played 2k for the last 15 years, no one wants to watch small guards left to right around screens and watch the defense dit in a 2-3 zone. If the gameplay was realistic that would be one thing. If players were actually running different actions, pick and rolls, down screens, running sets and realistic iso then I could see some people watching it or if it was more on the arcade side with constant posters, snatch blocks, leaners, etc I could still see people watching it but it's neither. There's no variation or excitement. What makes Joe fun to watch is that it looks different than most.

But they came together and the chemistry is great!! So they took on the league and didn’t look back. Now. They are all great players. Most are top 10 at their position. It boils down to this. As a former EA FC (FIFA) player, I've noticed the same thing happens in 2K. Performance relies more on your gaming IQ than your gaming skills. Of course, it's important to have and master skills, but your IQ will always give you an edge. As a real-life basketball player with FIBA coaching courses, it's very easy to break down teams using just your basketball IQ. It's just a video game and for me, it's not paying my bills. So, the important thing, is to have fun. It's tough to fall short of the META, but winning games this way is rewarding.

The 2K league wasn't gonna last because the mode they play on is not available for regular customers. 2K has no official competitive modes outside of the Pro-Am mode, which has glitched rankings every year. We can't even get detailed patchnotes like other eLeague games. Everyone, including the Pro teams, has to pay community run testers like 2K Labs to find out what adjustments 2K makes each month.

The 2kL's BIGGEST problem is it is the ONLY "professional" game that doesn't allow its casual fanbase to play. There is no Ranked mode, there is no Solo Queueing for a rank, there are no set "league builds" that everyone has to use. If they take the 2k18/2k19 Combine and morph that into a ranked playlist with solo/duo/team queues or whatever than you will actually get some fucking viewership and your game wont die after season 2 like it has the passed 3 years. Also, if they would do this, make the rewards something specific that only you get for reaching a certain rank. For example: Do Ranks: High School, College, G League, Pro, All-Star, Elite, Top 250 or something along those lines. Give the top 250 players like a glowing emblem. Dogshit marketing and game design teams ruined 2k.
I use to play 2k heavy and was a PF that averaged 20pt and 12 rebs in the first ever combine with 70% win percentage and didn’t make it but I know a guy that was literally a cone in the corner in a 5 out iso offense and Famous called him a “top 5” PF. I played for 16th ranked team on Xbox in 2k18th and would beat a lot of the first year league pros. I knew the league was a joke when there wasn’t a leaderboard explaining why some players made it and others didn’t. Why streamers that made it but magically did not stream during the combine. The lack of transparency during the whole process was terrible. How Choc could try and exposed the league but next year make the league. Glad I walked away from 2k.
yeah if there was more pros like bear the beast the league wouldve been more watched and cared about but idk im glad the monopoly of the game having a league is over because there will just be more comp back on the actual game and the players can just make pro am tourneys like yall been doing lol. 2k needs actual 2k players to make the community in the game closer

Only 5 out team to win a major pro am league in 2k23 and 2k24 is my team. People say 5 out is easy but only one team has been able to use it and win the major leagues. I think if it was easy other people would have used it to win free money. A lot of good teams tried it and immediately went right back to PnR. I’m not arguing one way or another but if only one team has proven they can do it when it matters, idk. 🤷♂️

ive always said this 2k ISNT BUILT FOR COMPETITIVE GAMEPLAY LIKE THE 2k LEAGUE, the skill gap isnt big enough and the gameplay is all either animation based or bs that most competitive players can learn by simply having good chemistry with teammates. That core gameplay just isnt fun to watch competitively and its not impressive to watch these dudes play.
