Movario plays a central role in the While Guthix Sleeps quest (and ritual of the mahjarrat there after) on RS3. He was added with the dorgesh-kaan release as an early teaser for WGS back in 2007. The quest released about 1.5 years after he was added.

Fun fact about the hemenster arrowtip chest: there's a Kandarin diary task to steal from it, but you can also complete this task by stealing from the arrowtip chests in Relekka or the mourner tunnels under Ardy, because they all share the same Object ID.

As you mentioned in the video, the Chaos Druid tower was added with Thieving back in classic, and you're right that back then runes were especially hard to come by. Thieving was at the time one of the best ways in the game to get often sought after runes, and Ardougne especially was ripe with opportunities for this sort of crime.
You can get a ton of chaos runes by pickpocketting paladins, which with the Chaos Gauntlets became one of the most cost effective ways deal magic damage in combat.
There are also a couple chests with nature runes in them, which were also highly sought after for alching.
Blood runes especially were among the hardest to get in the game, and were needed to cast the god spells, which were the best in the game, especially used for pvp. Thieving that chest under the Chaos Druid Tower was one of the best ways to farm blood runes, even with it teleporting you away every trip (assuming you had the thieving level for it). Very few monsters dropped blood runes, and those that did dropped them very rarely and only one at a time. The only monster with a decent drop rate for blood runes was the KBD, and that required very high combat stats to farm effectively.
This scarcity of runes is why the introduction of Runecraft in RS2 was such a big deal, and also why it was such a pain to train. Compared to existing methods at the time, it was a dramatically faster source of runes. It just so happens that it was eventually surpassed by drops from Slayer and other monsters to the point where you no longer need to do any Runecraft to have all the runes you could ever need just from drops alone.

There's actually an explanation as to why that door by the Dramen Tree to the Wildy exists!
Lost City was a quest that was released in 2002, while the home teleport spell wasn't added into the game until 2006. So RSC and early RS2 players (back in 2004/05) had to use that door to get out to finish the quest. If they made it safely, Quest Complete. If they didn't, then they'd have to get the branch again. I assume that's also why that quest is tied to the criteria for the Dragon Longsword and Dragon Dagger.

I was going fully "🤓I KNEW THAAAAT ONE 🤓" mode for just about all of these but I'm still super happy to see these kinds of old obscure details talked about, I think you've highlighted some ideas for weird and cool content as well: A digsite-supply-locked account(I'd really like to see how far repairing the broken weapons and armour could get you), poison chalice roulette, or a pvp wilderness match where you're only allowed to prep with whatever you can bring through to that door in the Entrana dungeon.
Even if we don't see them come up all that often with all the content we've got nowadays, it's these little things that really make Runescape stand out from all the focus-tested and market-researched MMOs that are too carefully planned and polished for these delicious tidbits of jank and junk. It really reminds you that this whole thing started off as a bunch of brothers having fun and telling a story.
P.S. I don't usually impulse-buy things youtubers pitch me in their promos but I pretty much instantly decided I needed a glowing dragon scimmy on my wall. I wonder how many viruses downloading that dscim cursor gave my old family computer...

  • @Slimelia_

I'd always wondered about that trapdoor but just assumed it was something in the goblin caves that I'd forgotten! You're right in that the area south of Ardougne & its underground are some of the most cluttered and weird parts of the game lmao, whenever I remember the Clock Tower dungeon I'm taken aback by how absolutely bonkers and unnecessary it is.
Here's a few other oddities in the Ardy area:
    - The Necromancer Tower NE of the Tower of Life is weird all-round. Two random named NPCs who have no use, one of which can spawn zombies when you attack him and one whose only noteworthy bit of information on the wiki is that he's "shorter than the player and the average human NPC".
    - The Hazeel Cult sewers/dungeon has a portion of the map that still exists in-game but has been entirely inaccessible since RuneScape Classic
    - The Fight Arena. Just generally. It's basically an entire town/village but doesn't have any name other than "Fight Arena" (and yet the nowhere-land that is Hemenster is named??) and has a pub that you've probably been to once for the quest and then never again
    - The Handelmort Mansion in the centre of Ardougne has a fairly large footprint for a building you only enter once for the quest Tribal Totem. ....You remember Tribal Totem, right? ..No? Tribal Totem takes place largely around Ardougne and is, in my opinion, the most forgettable quest in the whole of OSRS. Go ask anyone with a Quest cape what happens in that quest. They won't be able to tell you a single detail.
    - The Legends Guild dungeon is the only place you'll find the Shadow warriors, an NPC that was popular to kill in RSC for a chance to roll the Gem Drop Table and get the Shield left half. These NPCs are really weird: they don't have yellow dots on the minimap, and despite wielding battleaxes they attack at the speed of a scimitar. They're also, shockingly, not *entirely* pointless, being possible slayer tasks from Vannaka and Chaeldar!

Which means that in the OSRS timeline, he's spent the last several decades bumbling around in the caves near Lumbridge in search of the Stone, only a few screens away from its resting place, but never able to find it no matter how hard he tries. 19:10 nope we trained at the skellys/ scorpions/ red deadly spiders/ lesser demons at karjruma island, then once you’re like killing it with Gold (GP) you’d either quest enough yourself or trust trade ur money over to someone who could get into the champions guild, to buy your rune longsword, chainbody, plate legs. Then pay someone a lot for an addy kite shield. After that you needed food. So before herb skill, feller in varrock bring him a root vial he’d make you a stre pot, so you’d have cake/pizza/ or lobby’s, with some stre pots. Run into deep wildy and fight the greater demons, for a chance of the rune full helm drop. Back then that helm could run you 150k-1m gp. Pending who was selling it.
I remember running out to Greaters once. My friend DoubleBubble was training there, so was Tronsqueen and Trons1000. They were with their friend Who’s name was Muhahahaha and he was combat level 148. I freaked. 😅

Your video was awesome, even though I already knew some of those facts from playing since 2005. Here's a fun fact that not many people know: if you refuse to leave Zandar Horfyre in the Dark Wizards' Tower near Falador, he'll actually teleport you to the Lumbridge Swamp! I think it's one of the treasure trail coordinate locations. ;)

The tower at 12:40 is probably known by players back then. That place was PACKED back in the day. There was rarely times it was open if you tried to hop to every world available. Perhaps that speaks to players on when they played the game.

I remember back around 08 or so a lot of higher ranked agility people used to train at that Dorgesh course over ape atoll. The chests used to be one of the best ways to get green charms outside of combat after summoning. Pretty sure they changed it later on though.

Back in the day (05' to 06') the chaos druid tower was a very popular training/money maker spot. Normally chaos druids were either in the wilderness (very dangerous for most noobs like me) or in seemingly dangerous dungeons. This spot was great for lower levels to get Unidentified herbs for profit!
I had fond memories of training theiving in ardy square to unlock the tower. Then i used the cakes from the cake stall to train agility in brimhaven so i coule cross the log balance.
Finally i noticed the chest in the basement and heard you could get blood runes from it. Bloods felt so expensive back then so i trained up to 59 theiving to get the blood runes i needed to unlock my favorite god spell (flames of zamorak) at the mage arena.
This was one or the many adventures i had back in the day as a kid when i first made the long journey on foot to Ardy. Dont even get me started on the dangerous trek over white wolf mountain.

16:12 there used to be an old lure where the lurers would have the victim be -1 kg flat and then ask them to drop their cash stack/noted items to the other side of the bridge. They'd have the victim cross the bridge back and forth and at some point toss them a Gnomeball (weighing 0.5 kg) which would put them over -1 kg and have them fall. As you'd have no chance to run back in a minute, the items would eventually appear for the lurers to take.

I went to AJQ fairy ring location and ran west a short bit to the Blocked tunnel and went through and ended up in the kalphite lair (the level above kalphite queen) I was amazed, I will definitely use this route later on as you skip the first rope going down the well. Very cool!
